    Won't eject

Had this super drive for almost 3 years. The other day I wanted to import a cd to my library to download it to my iPod, everything went well until I tried to eject the cd. It wouldn't eject for nothing. I unplugged it plugged it back in still nothing, it would just make a whirring sound. Kept hitting the eject button no response finally out of options I just turned the stupid thing upside down and hit the eject button and low and behold it ejected the cd. Loaded the same cd in same thing it wouldn't eject turned it upside down it ejected. Repeated this several times. So if you run into this problem try turning upside down. I only use the superdrive to import cd which is very seldom. I agree with the other people this thing is a piece of junk. Apple really needs to redesign the superdrive. Not worth the money!!!!!!

    Not for me

Unit took TurboTax disc, whirred and clicked, then spit it out. Tried an older TurboTax disc, same thing happened so not a faulty disc. Tried other discs including a DVD, same issue. Am disappointed - will return for refund and will do more extensive shopping online, reading customer feedback first.

    Junk

This worked OK for a while but recently wouldn't eject a CD. Tried everything the fairly useless Apple Support website said to do. Half the time the instructions provided I was unable to complete because I didn't have the same options. Ended up opening the case with a screwdriver because I had to return the CD. Buying a much less expensive non-Apple product.

    Glitchy, frustrating

I regret purchasing this product and not returning it in time. I don't know if it's cheaply made or what, but it has never worked right. It is constantly spitting out CDs and DVDs. I would recommend trying to find an alternative before buying this product.

Not durable and impossible if a disc gets stuck

We have purchased and feel stuck with this disc drive. Our children have jammed the disc drive 2x and both times the drive broke due to the disc jam. This is something that happens all the time with littles and its amazing how Apple has not problem solved this major flaw. There is no way to forcibly eject a disc, and if the Geniuses end up opening it up to get the discs out, the drive is toast. It only comes with a 12 month warranty so after 1 year your $80 drive is trash.

    Rubbish - avoid

Bought because I would have expected Apple quality to be better than this and worth a premium. Unfortunately it reads no better than 1 in 2 discs and takes an age to import. It's useless. Have persisted over last few months as I need it on relatively few occasions but am now going to junk it. No use if every time it's 50/50 whether it will work or not. Going with an alternative off amazon.

    Awful!

I just bought this item a couple of days ago because I was in need of uploading pictures to my macbook air. While trying to upload, this product would not work whatsoever. I'm highly disappointed because I just wasted $80 on something I needed.

    Nothing 'super' about it...

I bought the superdrive as an essential piece of kit to accompany my Macbook pro (2015 model) as it did not have a built-in drive. The main reason I decided to pay the premium, the best part of £80, was the fact it was an Apple product - a brand I was familiar with and so far had not let me down. Unfortunately this drive is very temperamental, sometimes I have to load a CD into the drive multiple times before it works at all. Sometimes it takes 2 hours to import a single CD and even this is not done correctly as only 30 seconds of the CD gets imported.

Apple has moved away from built-in drives and my Macbook pro is amazing. However as apple moves away from USB slots ect., and we have to buy these add ons I expect them to at least work. My confidence in the brand and the products has been severely knocked and its hard to to feel cheated out of so much money.

I was lured in by the brand and the attractive design but thats all this have to offer, my advice would be to buy a cheaper drive that actually works and spend the rest of the money saved on more CD's!

    SuperDive

Works randomly, trashes many blank CD/DVD, not compatible with some Macs (old or not, doesn't matter).

    awful

How many blank discs does it take to burn just ONE? Well, if you're using the Apple USB Superdrive, the answer is six, apparently. I've had this drive on two computers, a Mac Pro at work and another at home and it never goes smoothly. Either it can't read the disc, or says it can't get information fast enough or the drive doesn't show up. I am beyond frustrated at Mac's ongoing attempt to dictate to its users what it feels is best for them. I have to be able to burn discs for work, and with the latest driveless Mac Pros and the USB Superdrive, it's an exercise in futility. Maybe I'll find a six-for-one sale on blank discs. Ridiculous.

    Not Super

Bought this as i have a lot of CD's.Its so slow and after 3 days of using it it has spat out as many CD's as i have ripped. It gets near to the the end of ripping a CD and gives up and spits it out. Very disappointed looking to get another cheaper make.

    non compatible with Mac booker

I bought this together with the MacBook Pro without DVD drive. The first time I used, it stuck DVD disc, went to store changed to a new one, stuck again. This product cannot use track pad holding with power key to start function. It is not recognized by my old macbook pro either. How can apple sell an external DVD drive product do not compatible with its own without DVD drive Macbook pro?!

    So disappointed...

Unlike many other reviewers, I asked for this drive as a gift so I could burn CDs from iTunes and make mixed CDs to listen to in my car. I put the first blank disc in and...nothing. I heard some whirring, but that was it. I selected a playlist, and I clicked "burn playlist to disc," but...nothing. The only way I could eject the disc was to restart my MacBook Air and then hold down the mouse when the computer booted back up. There was an icon that appeared for the drive but when I clicked on "Eject," like I said before...nothing. Why hasn't this problem been fixed with all these bad reviews??

Apple USB SuperDrive A Primitive Mechanism That Doesn't Work

Constantly, a CD gets stuck in my Apple USB SuperDrive and won't come out. One is permanently stuck now. Why does Apple not have an eject mechanism on the unit? My Windows laptop had an internal CD/DVD player which was far more efficient, and it had the eject button. I don't understand the primitive nature of the Apple unit. And I have tried every online suggestion to eject the CD down to the whole drutil command. I'd like to pry it apart and get the CD out, but can't even do that.

    Love Apple, Hate the SuperDrive

This is by far the worst designed apple product. The drive is designed with a slit opening to feed in disk and no mechanical way to eject. This would be ok if the drive function correctly but that is rare. Frequently the drive becomes obsessed with trying to process a disk and prevents the disk from ejecting, forcing you to wait 5, 10, or 15 minutes for it to decide its done with the disk. Biggest waste of money I've ever spent. I love all my other apple product, but this one I'm considering running it over with a tractor.

More hassle than it was worth.

Having a very limited internet connection for the foreseeable future I decided to buy a Superdrive to import new music from CDs into iTunes. The first disc worked fine but since then, I have had consistent error messages saying "the required disc cannot be found". I spent hours trying to troubleshoot the problem using the support pages, I tried loading the disk in different programs, and I even got the store to replace a CD but I have come to terms with the fact that it is the Superdrive that is not working as it should.

The forums are full of people in the same situation as me from back in 2012 and there is still no response from Apple on the matter. Now I must make another trip back to the same hardware store and hope they accept my returned Superdrive. I am more than just a little disappointed especially considering that the only way I can justify paying the hefty price for Apple products, to myself, is that they will last longer than their counterparts.
