the charger is perfect apart from one thing, Apple should also sell packs of just the rechargeable batteries as people like me have many apple products

    It's a 2 x AA Ni-MH battery charger

    • Written by from Douglas

How can a little device like this create so much understanding? It does its job very well and in accordance with Apple's claims.

-- it charges 2 cells at a time.

Apple's description and pictures make this clear.

-- the indicated charge in Apple's mouse preferences will not show 100%.

This is nothing to do with the charger but with the battery chemistry. Non-rechargeable (or primary) batteries when new have a voltage of 1.5 V. Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries have a fully-charged voltage of 1.2 V, which is around 80% of 1.5. The "missing charge" hasn't gone anywhere as it was never there in the first place. Perhaps Apple should change the Preferences display to show voltage.

    So, the good points:

It is very compact and sits quite happily in a standard power distribution strip (at least with UK plugs).

It has a clear, simple indication of the charging state.

Low current draw and effective charge management mean you can leave 2 batteries permanently on charge ready for swapping in.

The 6 cells supplied are targeted at the current wireless keyboard and mouse - 2 cells in each device and 2 on charge ready to swap.

I have yet to find out how long the cells will last. I get the impression that the charger implements a charging rate that will give the cells a long life. Rapid chargers can reduce the lifespan of Ni-MH cells.

The only thing I thought could be better was the UK cost - so 4 stars.

Good little unit. Does everything you expect it too.

Unlike others I expected it to charge 2 batteries at a time. A little look at the picture would have shown this.

Charges batteries faster than I need them and that's all I can ask. No reason to grumble.

Comes with 6 rechargeable batteries (so 2 in your Magic Mouse, 2 in your Wireless Keyboard and 2 on charge).

The description says the batteries are delivered fully charged, but still took 5 hours on charge out of the box until they went 'green' - when put in my Magic Mouse the charge level was 88%, but this is due to them puffing out 1.2v instead of 1.5v.

Rechargeables always give out 1.2v so perhaps Apple should change the indicator, but other than that they're fine.

    seriously impressed

    • Written by from Worksop

I bought this to go with my iMac and too be so impressed with such a simple product I feel speaks volumes about it!

I use the batteries in my Magic mouse and they've gone over a month between charges at what i'd call heavy moderate usage.

Besides the batteries your also getting a very neat little charger that matches all the other products.

Yes it may be slightly expensive for a battery charger but I feel it is worth the little extra as:

    a. You KNOW your getting high quality components
    b. The product is much more handsome than most battery chargers I've seen
    c. It goes very well with other apple wall plugs and charger and doesn't look intrusive or out of place at all!

    highly recommend!

    Small charger, works as advertised

    • Written by from Leigh

I picked up one of these chargers yesterday and i'm very happy with it. Its small and compact and works as advertised.

I've only charged 4 of the 6 included batteries so far, each set I left in the charger until the light went out (not once it's turned green) that took approximately 6-7hrs. One set for my Magic Mouse, the other for the wireless keyboard. My Mac reports that both have a 100% charge. So for those reporting that they don't charge fully I would suggest leaving them charging until the light goes out, they must still need a top up trickle charge even after the charge indicator shows green.

I love the battery charger! I got it as a gift from a friend, and is is brill! the only thing is that you cannot buy extra battery's, it comes with 6 though so it is enough for me as I have the magic mouse and wireless keyboard. Also if the green light comes on then leave it a bit longer because it will not be fully charged.

    Hope this helps!

    Excellent but...

    • Written by from Beckenham

My first one had to go back to Apple as it was as dead. The replacement has been really good and shows up as 100% charged when in my trackpad and mouse. However, My apple keyboard takes three batteries, my trackpad takes two and so does my mouse. This makes seven! If apple sold extra batteries it would be much better and get 5*.

    Will not charge other batteries

    • Written by from Milton Keynes

Very nice looking product but will not charge other branded batteries I have, even though they are apparently compatible, so maybe not a good buy if you have other rechargeable batteries that you want to use. You can't even buy the apple batteries separately !!

    Holding their charge???

    • Written by

My first apple battery charger never delivered a full battery charge. It also indicated a green light after about an hour and a half charging when the batteries were actually only 60% charged. On one occasion the charge in the battery actually reduced after five hours. The other problem was that after 10 days of low usage the cells in the magic mouse lost 40% of their charge.

I've since replaced the original charger and batteries, however, the cells are still losing 4% charge on a daily basis, when they would typically lose 0.5-1% through self discharge at room temperature. This never occurred with the original alkaline batteries and if anything I am presently using the mouse less, not more.

I thought the Apple NiMH batteries 'hold a charge for an incredibly long time' but this has not been my experience of late. I know these are not low self-discharge NiMH batteries but 4% daily charge loss is unacceptable. They may be rechargeable but at this rate I'll be charging every 20 days, especially the keyboard batteries.

On another note and to clear the apparent confusion about number of batteries in the wireless keyboard, the new version takes 3 while the previous model took 2.

    Great stuff,really love it

    • Written by from swinford

Works perfectly! Great looking piece of equipment. Batteries have a good life, never had any problem with it. And people let your charger work until green light goes off before you put your batteries in use. This will solve your issues with not fully charged batteries and short usage time with it

    Beautiful compact design

    • Written by from Chester

The first thing that strikes you is the beautiful compact design of the Apple Charger unlike other cumbersome chargers on general sale.

One reviewer had a slight grumble about the price but having priced other chargers and packs of batteries, thought it a fair price as it will pay for itself fairly quickly. Especially, when considering the cost of replacing non-rechargeable batteries over time.

It was easy to put the component sections together and sits neatly in the wall socket. Dad was impressed with its overall design and quality of build, liked the fact there are no springs in the battery section as usually found in chargers.

As a newcomer to Apple having just bought an iMac have not had a chance to really test the durability of battery charge but like any rechargeable product this takes a few recharges to kick in properly.

I would recommend this product to others, especially if space is an issue.

Great product at a reasonable price

    • Written by from TRANBJERG J

Bought this for my keyboard and mouse as I was very unhappy with my "Energizer" rechargeable batteries.

It charges fast and last longer than most rechargeable batteries out there. Perfect accessory for my iMac Keyboard and Magic Mice (1 for iMac and one for MacBook Pro).

Useful and convenient for travel recordings

    • Written by from TAMPERE

These rechargeable size AA Ni-MH-batteries are labeled as min. 1900 mAh 1.2V HR6 text. It took about an hour to fully charge a pair of them.

A pair of these rechargeables powered my Olympus LS-10 Linear PCM Recorder for a recording time of about 10 hours. This is about as much as the internal memory of the recorder can handle, when recording .mp3 320 kbps sound.

With two pairs of rechargeables I´ll be able to record everything during one day if necessary.

The charger is very illustrative. You can see immediately how to position the batteries in it. It is as small as it can conveniently be. Very useful during my travels.

    Does the job!

    • Written by from Leamington Spa

Purchased this to support my mouse and keyboard and it works really well. Yet again, after reading the reviews on this product, there are lots of mixed reviews but so far it has worked really well and the charge is holding good for a mouse and keyboard that get used daily for a few hours at a time.

Saves you money on buying new batteries every month or so but...

    • Written by from Chester-le-Street

Had this kit since December 9th 2011. I use it to power my apple trackpad and keyboard. I get on average about 7 to 8 weeks usage per charge on my trackpad and one day short of 20 weeks on my keyboard.

However at this rate it will take 110 weeks for this kit to have paid for itself(that is buying Engerizer pack of 8 AA batteries at £5 each). That is 2 years and 6 weeks and that doesn't include the cost of charging up the batteries. That also assumes that I will continue to get the same amount of use per charge through out. Will I still get 7 to 8 weeks charge on my trackpad after 14 recharge cycles? Remember for my £25 I could have bought 40 Engerizer batteries.
