Apple in Education

Learning with Mac.

Built on the world’s most advanced operating system, the Mac is as easy to use as it is powerful. It comes with applications that help students create amazing projects. And you can do even more with iWork, pro applications and Mac OS X Server.

Designed to last.

Every Mac is precisely designed for a long, productive life. Mac notebooks feature durable unibody enclosures and are made from high-quality materials like aluminium and glass — so they’re ready for the rigours of any classroom. The MagSafe power connector is held in place magnetically, so if someone trips over it, the lead disconnects and the computer stays safely put. And the Mac is just as well designed inside. With fast Intel processors, advanced graphics and notebook batteries that last up to 7 hours on a single charge,1 Mac computers deliver amazing performance for practically any task.

OS X Lion. The world’s most advanced desktop operating system.

Every Mac comes with OS X Lion, which includes features that make teaching and learning more dynamic and engaging. Multi-Touch gestures make navigating and zooming in on content a breeze. Full-screen apps use every inch of the Mac display, so you can be completely immersed in your classwork or research. Say goodbye to manually saving documents with Auto Save. And review the history of documents with Versions, comparing older drafts with the current document in a browsable timeline.

The built-in apps are great for education too. Safari gives you fast, easy web browsing. Mail and iCal use the contacts in Address Book, so you can quickly send messages or invitations to individuals and groups both inside and outside your institution. The built-in camera and FaceTime let you bring guests into the classroom via a video chat.2 And the new Mac App Store contains thousands of apps, including apps specifically designed for educational purposes. Share and share alike.

With AirDrop in OS X Lion, you can send files wirelessly to anyone nearby. Click the AirDrop icon in the Finder sidebar, and your Mac automatically discovers other AirDrop users within about 10 metres of you — perfect for classrooms and study groups. Transferring fully encrypted files is as easy as dragging a file to someone’s name.

Work well with others.

OS X Lion lets you use Microsoft Office, connect to most printers and cameras, join PC networks and even run Windows. And if you’re switching from a PC to a Mac, Migration Assistant in Lion automatically transfers your documents, contacts, calendars, email accounts (Outlook and Windows Live Mail) and photos stored in Picasa from your PC, and puts them in the appropriate places on your new Mac.

Maximise your FaceTime.

FaceTime lets you make video calls to other Intel-based Mac computers, iPad 2, iPhone 4 or the latest iPod touch.2 Use it to communicate with students and parents and to collaborate with colleagues nearby or around the world.
