A computer that comes with applications for the basic, day-to-day things? That’s expected. A computer that lets you do them in amazingly fun and easy ways? That’s a Mac.
It’s great at the everyday things.
Unlike a PC, a Mac comes with everything you need to send email, manage your calendar, organise your contacts and more — minutes after you take it out of the box.
Do everyday things straight out of the box.
Before you can start emailing or chatting on Windows 7, you have to download the necessary applications. A new computer should be able to do these things and more from the word go. And a Mac does. You get Mail for sending and receiving email, Calendar for managing appointments and important events, Contacts for organising your contacts, iPhoto for editing and sharing your photos, iTunes for all things entertainment, and a handful of other fun and useful applications you’ll wonder how you ever lived without.
Mac keeps the conversation going.
Any computer will let you chat. But only a Mac lets you send iMessages to someone’s Mac — and iPhone, iPad or iPod touch too. You can send photos, videos, locations, contacts and more. If you want to see a friendly face, FaceTime for Mac makes it possible to talk, smile, wave and laugh with anyone on an iPhone 4 or 4S, iPad, iPod touch or Mac from your Mac over Wi-Fi.1
Find files fast.
With so many files on your computer, finding a specific one can be a challenge. Not on a Mac. Features like Spotlight and Quick Look make locating the file you’re looking for effortless — even if you don’t know the filename. Say you’re searching for a document and the only thing you recall about it is a sentence with the words “corporate partners”. Open Spotlight, type “corporate partners”, and your Mac generates a list of files that contain those words. And with Quick Look, you don’t need to open an application to verify that you’ve found the right file. Just select the document, press the Space bar and Quick Look shows you a preview of it.
A Mac comes with all the applications you need to send email, create calendars and more.

It makes managing and editing your photos as easy as taking them.
iPhoto is an amazing and easy-to-use photo editing application that makes your pictures look absolutely stunning. Share your photos online or turn them into treasured keepsakes — all with iPhoto.
Organise your photos by who, where and when.
It’s so easy to take digital photos that before you know it, you have thousands. Thankfully, iPhoto keeps track of your photos in ways no other photo editing application can: with Faces, Places and Events. Faces uses face detection to identify the people in your photos. With Places, you can search and sort photos by location using data from any GPS-enabled camera or iPhone. Don’t have a GPS-enabled camera or iPhone? You can enter your own location information. Organise your iPhoto library even further with Events. When you import photos taken on a single day, iPhoto automatically groups them together as an Event that you can label with a meaningful name like “Karen’s wedding” or “Nathan’s graduation”.
Turn a good picture into a great one.
iPhoto features editing tools that rival professional-quality photo software, and it takes only a few clicks to use most of them. Remove red-eye. Adjust exposure, brightness and contrast. Crop to frame your subject. If you don’t know where to begin, click the Enhance tool and watch iPhoto automatically fix bright or dull photos. If you want to make the colours in your photos pop without affecting skin tones, use the Saturation slider. To improve clarity and enhance detail, experiment with the Definition slider. Or retouch over solid edges with the Retouch brush. iPhoto even lets you apply effects — like a vignette border or an edge blur — with just a click.
Share your photos with the world. In print or online.
The easiest way to share your photos is to share them online. And it’s easy to share online with iPhoto. Enjoy one-click publishing of your photos to your Facebook page or Flickr account. You can share photos by email just as easily.Or turn them into gorgeous gifts such as a hardback book, a calendar or greetings cards.
Connect your camera or insert your SD card, and iPhoto automatically groups your images into Events.

It turns home movies into home blockbusters.
iMovie transforms your home videos into films with such cinematic style, it will look as though you hired your very own production crew.
Edit fast. Edit precisely.
Connect virtually any digital camcorder and iMovie starts importing your video instantly. Then iMovie helps you organise your video just as you organise photos: by putting everything in one central location and grouping clips by date. You’ll find editing your movie is a breeze, too. If you know how to drag files to your desktop, then you know how to edit a movie in iMovie. Drag your favourite clips into the project area and arrange them as you wish. Drag in titles and transitions. Drag in photos. Drag in a song from iTunes to create your soundtrack. When you have all your clips where you want them, fine-tune them with the Precision Editor. Adjust the duration of transitions. Edit audio and video independently, so you can use the sound from one clip with the video from another. Reposition titles and effects. Or add sound effects and voiceover.
Enhance your movie Hollywood-style.
Steady a shaky clip. Add a touch of fun and whimsy by applying a theme. Take your audience across the globe with an animated map. iMovie gives your home movies the Hollywood treatment. Those perfect, if slightly wobbly, clips don’t need to find themselves on the cutting-room floor. Video stabilisation in iMovie analyses how much your camera was moving, then automatically reduces shake. To make your films look even more professional, add a dynamic theme like Bulletin Board, Filmstrip or Comic Book. iMovie does the rest, adding animated titles and sophisticated transitions. And you can enhance your video travelogues with eye-catching, animated travel maps.
Premiere your movie with a click.
Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, it’s time to share it. iMovie lets you publish your project directly to your YouTube account. You can also send your movie to iTunes and sync it with your iPod, iPhone or iPad.
Create Hollywood-style film trailers easily with themes in almost every genre: adventure, drama, romantic comedy and more.

Turn your Mac into a musical instrument.
With GarageBand, the proof is in the playing. Plug a USB music keyboard into your Mac and you get instant access to over 100 realistic software instruments — pianos, strings, drums, guitars, horns — everything from bass to woodwinds. Just create a new track, choose your instrument and play. Don’t have a keyboard? Try the one onscreen, which is resizable and can display up to 10 octaves at once. Or turn on Musical Typing and use the keys on your computer keyboard to play. If you have an electric guitar, then you’re in for a musical treat. Plug it in and play through 12 amps modelled on the most revered in the world. Choose from over 30 complete rigs, including Brit Pop, Honky Tonk, Lowdown Blues, Seattle Sound, Stadium Solo and Woodstock Fuzz.
