1. How can I tell if my MacBook Air needs service?
Visit our MacBook Air Support page for helpful troubleshooting information. If you have reviewed the articles on the website, and you're still not sure whether your MacBook Air requires service, you can take your MacBook Air to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider ("AASP") or Apple retail store for diagnosis. Alternatively, you can contact Apple. A technical support agent can help you diagnose the issue.   Note:  Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

2. How do I get my MacBook Air serviced?
Apple may provide service for your MacBook Air using one of the following options:

  • Carry-in Service: Take your MacBook Air to an Apple retail store or AASP near you.
  • Mail-in Service: In some countries you may be able to mail your MacBook Air for service, by contacting Apple.

3. How long will my MacBook Air service take?
Service times often depend on the nature of the issue and the availability of service parts at the service location. Be sure to ask how long service will take when you set up service with Apple's technical support agents or deliver your MacBook Air for service to an AASP or the Apple Store.

4. Will the data on my MacBook Air be preserved?
Don't rely on it being preserved. Many repairs require Apple to replace or reformat the hard disk, which will result in the loss of your data. Please make sure you back up your data on a regular basis to minimize your data loss. Apple and its AASPs are not responsible for any damage to or loss of any applications, data, or other information stored on your MacBook Air while performing service.

5. How do I check the status of my MacBook Air service request?
For service facilitated through Apple, you can check the status of your service request or repair at any time on our easy service status website.

6. One of my MacBook Air accessories isn’t working.  Can I order a replacement?
Most accessories that shipped with your computer can be replaced. Please contact your local AASP or Apple retail store, or contact Apple. A technical support agent can help you diagnose the issue and order a replacement part, if necessary.

1. How long is my MacBook Air covered by Apple’s warranty?
Your MacBook Air is covered by Apple’s Limited Warranty for one year. Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase ("date of purchase").

2. How can I tell if my MacBook Air is in-warranty?
To determine your warranty coverage, enter the serial number of your MacBook Air in our Online Service Assistant. Apple may need to examine your proof of purchase document to verify your MacBook Air’s warranty status.

3. How much will service be if I’m in warranty?
Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of purchase. However, you will be responsible for all expenses incurred in transporting your MacBook Air to Apple, an AASP, or Apple retail store.

4. What kind of activities are excluded from my warranty coverage?
Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty excludes coverage for damage resulting from a number of events, including accident, unauthorized service, and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details. If damage is outside the scope of warranty coverage, service may still be provided through a local AASP or an Apple retail store, but all service charges will be your responsibility. In such an event, you will be asked to approve the estimated charges and accept Apple’s Repair Terms and Conditions for service before authorizing repair.

5. Can I extend service coverage on my MacBook Air beyond the 1-year warranty?
The AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Air extends hardware repair service and technical support coverage to three years from your MacBook Air’s original date of purchase. You can only purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan while your MacBook Air is covered under Apple's One-Year Limited Warranty.

6. Does Apple warranty cover my MacBook Air service?
For an MacBook Air under Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty, Apple warrants against defects that arise from service performed for 90 days from the date of service or for the remaining period of the warranty, whichever provides longer coverage for you. For an MacBook Air not under Apple’s warranty, Apple warrants against defects that arise from service performed for 90 days from the date of service.

7. My MacBook Air warranty has expired.  What are my service options?
Apple offers two service options for an MacBook Air that is no longer within warranty.

If your MacBook Air requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will repair your MacBook Air for a service fee. Read more about the Battery Replacement Program.

If you own an MacBook Air, and it requires service for any other issue, you still have access to all available service options, but you will be responsible for the cost of service, including parts, labor, shipping (if any), and applicable taxes. AppleCare or your local AASP or Apple retail store representative will provide you with an estimate of service costs before receiving your authorization to perform service.
