The new Power Mac G4 Cube comes fully loaded with tons of great software. That’s a great advantage. Because when it comes to the question of functionality, what’s important is not just what your computer can do, but what you can do with your computer. And in the case of the G4 Cube, the answer is, just about everything.

The software the G4 Cube comes with includes Mac OS 9.1 (featuring the Internet search detective Sherlock 2), Apple iTunes and iMovie 2. Plus Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, EarthLink Total Access, AOL, AppleWorks 6, QuickTime, FAXstf and Palm Desktop, plus three best-selling games — Cro-Mag Rally, Bugdom and Nanosaur. (Incidentally, with 128MB of RAM, your G4 Cube is Mac OS X-ready in case you think of installing it down the road.)

iTunes Apple iTunes turns your Power Mac G4 Cube into a powerful digital jukebox, complete with easy-to-use tools for recording music from audio CDs, searching and browsing your entire collection, managing playlists, downloading songs to MP3 players, listening to Internet radio stations, and even burning your own custom CDs.

iMovie has spawned a whole new genre: Desktop Movies. iMovie lets you edit hours of digital video down to watchable lengths, by saving the best parts and cutting out the boring parts. By being so easy to use, iMovie has literally brought home movies out of the closet as people dust off old tapes that have been stored out of sight for years, convert them to digital video format and edit them into little gems they can share across generations.

iMovie Editing a movie with iMovie is a breeze because the G4 Cube’s PowerPC G4 processor races through tasks like rendering transitions and effects. You simply arrange the video clips you’ve selected in the sequence you want, then add music, transitions and cool effects — like water ripples, ghost trails and soft focus — and type in your titles and credits. When you’re done, you can transfer your movie to videotape and watch it on your TV. Or you can select from a range of predefined QuickTime formats to create movies that can be published on the Internet, emailed to friends and family, or (using the G4 Cube’s CD-RW drive) stored on CDs.

AppleWorks AppleWorks is a hugely popular multifunctional program with six core capabilities: word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, drawing and painting. You can use AppleWorks to create stunning slide presentations, and to write everything from a book to a book report (it even checks your spelling for you). And with an inkjet color printer, you can use AppleWorks to create everything from science reports to birthday cards — plus flyers, banners and resumes — on your Power Mac G4 Cube. Use AppleWorks to draw and paint digitally, and to track your budget on a spreadsheet (and then use that data to generate a chart that shows where your money goes). AppleWorks lets you list the people in your database according to various categories, and can address envelopes or mailing labels for all of them.

Sherlock By the way, your G4 Cube is perfect for online shopping, too. Especially with Sherlock 2, the powerful search technology that’s among the most highly praised features of the Macintosh operating system. Sherlock not only finds the best deals online and ranks them by price, it also shows you details about availability. And it’s not just for new stuff, either: With more and more treasures coming out of attics and garages and onto the Internet, that out-of-print comic book, rare video or signed watercolor you’ve been looking for could soon find its way online. And when it does, Sherlock 2 will find it. Ditto with hard-to-find information. Fact is, with over a billion pages of content on the Internet, you need Sherlock 2 to locate hidden nuggets of information with pinpoint precision.

Palm Desktop for Macintosh is a personal information management package based on the award-winning Claris Organizer 2.0 and HotSync software. It’s perfect for organizing your time and your calendar on your G4 Cube, and great for automatically syncing your information with a Palm-OS based handheld device, if you use one.

Brace yourself for a rocky ride in the melee racing game Cro-Mag Rally. Whether you’re driving a Mammoth Mobile, Logmobile, Geode Cruiser or Trojan Horse, the G4 Cube thunders down the tracks at breakneck speed. You can play Cro-Mag Rally by yourself in single-player mode or use your G4 Cube’s awesome processing power to good advantage in Tournament Mode.

You can also play Nanosaur, and travel back in time to collect the eggs of five dinosaur species before the giant asteroid hits the earth, or stand in for Rolly McFly and save his land from the tyrannical rule of the evil fire ants in Bugdom.

Do it all
It’s easy to lose count of the number of things you can do with the software that comes with your Power Mac G4 Cube. You can burn your own music CDs with iTunes, make Desktop Movies with iMovie, get online and surf the web with EarthLink Total Access, watch Internet TV channels with QuickTime, take advantage of your free iTools account to build your own website with HomePage, and chat online with friends around the world using AOL Instant Messenger. Plus send and receive email (and faxes), create spreadsheets, databases and presentations, and play games. (You’ll appreciate the advantage of running all these programs on a supercomputer when the G4 Cube’s PowerPC G4 processor kicks in at three billion calculations per second.)

iTools Get iTools — it’s on us
