Warcraft III
nVidia & ATI logo Every Mac comes well-equipped for demanding games. Apple uses video cards from industry leaders NVIDIA and ATI that are capable of rendering complex 3D scenes generated by the OpenGL 3D subsystem inside Mac OS X.

Mac OS X also uses the standard BSD SOCKs TCP/IP networking stack for multi-player games. Blizzard’s Battle.Net lets you play Starcraft, Diablo II and Warcraft III with others. Any game based on the Quake III engine will let you play cross-platform and Unreal is very popular with Macintosh users. Of course, you can always use those Mac chat clients to get your friends together to let off some steam.

You can find plenty of offerings for the more casual gamer, too. Macs use Internet Explorer as the default Web browser. Add to that the very speedy Java 2 client and QuickTime, which includes ShockWave, and you’ve got a browser that lets you play many online games, such as those addictive offerings at Yahoo! Games or The Station from Sony. Find fun puzzle games, or board games you can play with others and chat at the same time. You can easily find bingo, hearts, spades and other games online.
