Switching to Mac: Real Stories

We’ve received hundreds of emails from people who have successfully switched from PCs to Macs. Executives. Parents. UNIX users. Students. Researchers. Retirees. Here are some of their true stories. We’ll continue to add letters during the coming weeks — we have many good stories to share with you.

I’m a big UNIX fan

I got interested in Macs due to Mac OS X. I’m a big UNIX fan, and the idea of an operating system that was user-friendly with a true UNIX core was very appealing to me.
When I got out of school for the summer I bit the bullet and bought a PowerBook. I got it and immediately starting pouring all my data onto it from my Windows and UNIX systems. The networking just worked, I was able to access my files on the other systems on the first try. That was a running trend; everything I tried to do worked on the first try. My digital camera and all other USB devices simply worked the moment I plugged them in.
And now instead of having two systems for my needs, I have one. Mac OS X accomplishes both the day-to-day tasks formerly done on my Windows PC, as well as all the programming tasks formerly done on my UNIX system. And in most cases, it handles those jobs better.

The best version of Office

I switched last February, and I will never go back. It’s the all-in-one machine for everything digital; iMovie is great along with iTunes and iPhoto. It is also great for school work. Office for Mac is the best version of Office that I have ever seen.

Drawing a Line in the Sand

For me it was about limits. There comes a time where you just have to draw a line in the sand, you know? How many stalls and freezes, how many interminable load times, how many errors and hours wasted trying to get help, am I supposed to have to put up with? Who is working for whom, here? I think my PC was starting to give me headaches. Really.
I don’t think I ask that much from my computer; I’m just a regular English student. And my new iBook is perfect for me: it doesn’t take up much space, it’s easy to carry to school, and with Airport, I can research the Web practically anywhere I go. It’s the perfect student’s computer. And I think it’s cool that Apple offers a discount for students and teachers — it feels much better to buy from a company I respect. So thanks a lot guys!

Editing Within an Hour

I graduated to a Mac from a PC. As a video editor, I was tired of the PC’s constant crashing. PC’s in my opinion were always almost machines — almost able to network, almost able to edit.
The compatibility issue — will my capture board work with my motherboard? Who will ever know? Even the board manufactures would balk at giving hard information.
Then I bought a Graphite iMac. I was editing on it within an hour. I loved it so much I bought an iBook. I could edit in the car — at the park, anywhere! iMovie 2 is a great basic editing program. It helped me get jobs.
