Sharing Photos with a Select Few

There's a little noticed feature available for managing your Gallery that enables you to share photos only with specific friends, family members, or colleagues (the kids' birthday parties, shots of a location for a client, that sort of thing) while sharing the rest of your Gallery albums with everyone (those fabulous vacation shots which everyone ought to see after all). It's called "Hide album on my Gallery page" and it's available for each album via the the Adjust Settings button on the me.com toolbar. The relevant checkbox is near the end of the Album Settings options list. Check it, click Publish, and that album will no longer be visible to anyone who visits your main Gallery page at gallery.me.com/[username].

After you check the box and publish, look up in the upper right hand corner of the page and click on the URL you see there. It will take you to a web page displaying the now hidden album. Sharing the URL is how you direct people to that page. If you're using Safari, for instance, just use the "Mail Link to This Page" command in the File menu and send the link to the people you want to have access to the hidden album. And by the way, every album in your Gallery has a specific URL whether it's hidden or not, and you can use this same URL sharing method whenever you want to direct someone to a specific album instead of just sending them to your main Gallery page.

Using MobileMe and Microsoft Exchange with iPhone

A question has come up about how contact and calendar information is handled if you use both Microsoft Exchange and MobileMe on an iPhone or iPod touch. The simple answer is separately maintained, jointly viewable. You can enter new information for each service separately as you move around, and that information is stored and synced separately. But when you check your contact or calendar information you can view the information from both jointly or separately as you choose. It's an approach that preserves the data integrity of each service while delivering the convenience of mobile access to both of them.
