Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)

  • Overview

The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Not sure if this is the right power adapter for your Mac?

See this article for more details about choosing the right one.

Knowing which specific Mac model you have is important. If you are running OS X Lion (10.7) or later, go to the “” menu at the top left of your screen, choose “About this Mac” then click the “More Info...” button. Your Mac model and generation will be displayed.

      Power adaptors do not last

S Apple needs to rethink the design of the Magsafe power adaptors. I have bought replacement Magsafe Power adaptors in the past because they don't always last. Sometimes 1-2 years but this recent one only lasted 3 months. At $80 per adaptor this is ridiculous. Read online, many consumers have had the same issues.

      Dear Apple

I really, really do. You're making it difficult though. I couldn't blame you when my old, T-style power adapter broke after a couple years. I was even excited when I saw the sleek, new, redesigned L-style. However, that one broke too- but this time, it was after only about two months. I tried not to take it out on you, and figured that maybe I got the one bad one in the batch, or that maybe I had been too rough with it. But here I am, typing away, pausing occasionally to wiggle the cord in order to get it to work again- for a few seconds at least. Yes, thats right, my SECOND L-style magsafe has broken, also after only a couple months. Finally, I'm realizing that it's not me, it's YOU. And you just don't seem to realize that. I called Apple support only to be told that there are "no known issues" with the L-style magsafe adapter. Oh really? Dearest apple, do you ever read the reviews your products receive? Obviously there is a known issue, and its that this product simply doesn't work if you use it for more than a month! I've enjoyed your sleek design and better usability, but honestly, I think I'm leaving you. For a PC.

New and Better than the Old MagSafe

As for the MagSafe itself, it feels differently built (for the better), it doesn't nearly get as hot as the old MagSafe did (incredibly this one stays very cool, even on extended periods of time, although that could be because it's new.) Lastly, the actual connector is pretty innovative, feels much sturdier and less prone to fire/breaking/separation issues. It also wraps around a better/more effective contour. All in all, for $79 compared to $99, and the benefits i've named, it's a much better buy than the previous MagSafe (still overpriced, apple)

      flawed design

These are terrible products which frequently break. Bending of the power cord during normal use and transport results in broken wires after a year or two. Yet magsafe keeps breaking at the point where you can obviously see how the contact point is way to weak to handle the pressure simply by the cable's weight. Now mater how carefully I try to manage the pressure by careful placement and never putting stress on the contact point, it keeps fraying and forcing me into the market of new magsafe to set me back at another €79. I feel laughed at by Apple.
