I get "An error was returned from the server" message in System Preferences after changing my .Mac password
- If you get this alert in the .Mac System Preference, click Sign Out... and then enter your .Mac member name and password. You may need to re-enable .Mac Sync, iDisk Syncing, and Back to My Mac to use these features after clicking Sign Out.
What's new with .Mac Syncing in Mac OS X 10.5?
- Just like Mac OS X 10.4, you can sync your contacts, bookmarks, calendars, Mail accounts, Mail rules, signatures, and smart mailboxes, and keychains. If you have more than one computer with Mac OS X 10.5, you can also sync your preferences, Dashboard Widgets, notes, and dock items. More information about .Mac Syncing is available here.
Can I still sync my data with a computer with Mac OS X 10.3?
- With the release of Mac OS X 10.5, Apple has updated the system requirements for .Mac Syncing. Syncing data with .Mac now requires Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later. Earlier versions of Mac OS X may still be able to sync with .Mac, but are no longer supported, and will eventually no longer successfully sync. More information is available here.
How do I use Back to My Mac?
- If you have two or more computers with Mac OS X 10.5, you can use Back to My Mac to connect from one computer to the other, no matter where it is. For more information about Back to my Mac, and basic troubleshooting information, see this article.
After my account renewed, I can't use Back to my Mac
- If your account recently renewed, you may need to re-setup Back to my Mac by following the steps here.
iDisk Syncing is not working as expected
- If you are using iDisk Syncing on two computers with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), and you copy a file to your iDisk on one computer, the file may not automatically appear on the other computer. After turning on iDisk Syncing in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, if you open a folder that is not automatically synced (Backup, Library, Web, Shared, or Groups), you will be prompted for your .Mac password.
How do I setup my .Mac account in Mail in Mac OS X 10.5?
- If you've entered your .Mac member name and password into the .Mac System Preference, your account will be set up automatically when you open Mail. If you want to add your account manually, simply select Add Account from the file menu, enter your .Mac email address and password, and Mail will do the rest automatically.
Can I view my Mail Notes and To Do items in .Mac Webmail?
- Notes created in Mail will be viewable using .Mac Webmail, but they can not be edited. To Do items can not be viewed using .Mac Webmail.
Backup 3.1.1 and Mac OS X 10.5
- If you are using Mac OS X 10.5, you will need to update to Backup 3.1.2 in order to be able to use Backup. Backup 3.1.2 is available for download from http://www.mac.com.
Contacts or calendars backed up in Mac OS X 10.4 aren't restoring correctly in Mac OS X 10.5
- Restoring contacts and calendars backed up from Mac OS X 10.4 may appear to not restore successfully in Mac OS X 10.5. After you have make sure your calendars and contacts are working as expected in Mac OS X 10.5, make sure you perform a full backup.
