Some Macintosh users occasionally need to run PC applications that do not exist for the Mac. A number of easy-to-use solutions for Macintosh are now available, from remote display to actual PC emulation.
PC Emulators for Macintosh
The best-known PC emulator for the Mac is Microsoft Virtual PC.
Microsoft currently recommends at least a Power Mac G3 or Power Mac G4 running at 500MHz (or faster), with at least 256MB of memory and 2GB of available hard disk space.
Once the software is launched, everything works just as it does on a real PC. Compatibility is seamless. Virtual PC even enables you to run several versions of Windows simultaneously on your Mac.
Remote Display
Emulation is not the only way to display a Windows screen on your Macintosh. With Microsoft Remote Desktop, you can take control of a PC remotely and display its screen on a Mac. Netopias Timbuktu Pro software offers another way to do this.
