    Expensive, frays easily, awkward...

I'm at my wits' end-- this is the 3rd time that I am replacing a power cord for my laptop, and that's after extending their lives with electric tape! The cords seem almost designed to fray quickly. Mine has frayed near the laptop connector just a year in.

Apple, not everybody has a perfect workstation at home to keep the cord in their "optimal geometry." Apple, for $80 you should be providing quality cords that can withstand some curving now and again. That's part of the convenience of having a light laptop. Otherwise, Apple, you should certainly be replacing frayed cords for free.

    Frays in only 5 month.

I had gotten this cord only 5 months ago, and now the end with the end to charge is cracking and starting to fray. In my mind, I wasn't being harsh on the cord, just normal use (plugging it in at my desk, sitting with it at the table, etc.) where you would think the integrity of the design will hold up. Now i have to keep wrapping it in electrical tape to keep from killing myself or spend ANOTHER $85 to get a replacement, its not like I already shoveled my money to them when I bought the darn computer!

Breaks in less than a year

I've had two of these in the space of two years and both have had their insulation shred at the same place (near the magsafe connection). It's treated no different to adaptors from other computer manufacturers and they survived years and they cost a lot less. Now I have to buy a third one in two years (very first one came with my computer). Rip off at the price that it is

    Weak magnet bad design

The magnet always disconnects. Especially if you are working with the laptop in your lap. If you sit it down on couch, it disconnects. If you move at all, it disconnects. The T design makes it easy to bump and disconnect.

The good part, it does stay connected, if charging on a desk with no one near it.

    Glad I have Apple care

Lasted me over a year, just got worse and worse. Knew the problem would happen eventually so I put tape and springs on the cable ends to prevent the inevitable.

Good at first, then overheated and frayed

This power adapter worked for awhile, then it began to get EXTREMELY hot and now the cord is frayed and the wires are exposed.

    Over heat and snapped again

Bought my MacBook Pro in early 2014, less than 2 years, I had to replace the charger twice. Both time, the cable just snapped, and it heats up like a heater. Bad design, and it's not cheap!!!!

    Oh no! It broke :(

I like the strength of the magnet because when anyone gets tangled in it, the cable doesn't take the entire laptop down. However, my cable ended up breaking near the power box after half a year of using it. Not the best design.

    Poor construction

Not really a big fan on what is happening to Apple products in the past 5 years. Specifically of this review of the MagSafe 2 85w power adapter I had two incidents. The first incident was the original adapter it came with my macbook pro shorting out within one year. Second would be the new adapter I had to buy after the short, the cord began to tear.

2nd MagSafe 2 Power Adapter showing wires to me

Going to buy the 3rd MagSafe 2 Power Adapter in 3 years!
Literally they work for 1.5 year before the rubber isolation cracking.

Well, in fact the major disappointment is related to quality of all cables produced by Apple.

The same case with lightning cables.

The people which was near me in Apple Store suggested to buy (another licensed vendor) lightning cables (which are cheaper!!!) because of poor quality of Apple cables.

Can you please share with 3rd party vendors license for producing of your MagSafe 2 Power Adapters? So, there will be at least a chance to have a good quality power adapter.

    Thanks in advance!

    Short lifespan

Bought in 2013, and lasted a year before the cord began to fray and connectivity was inconsistent. One of the few apple products that is not only poorly designed (what is this block design?) but also of poor quality. I am hoping the next generations is better.

Completely overpriced for the lack of quality

Like many other people it seems i have also had numerous mac chargers die on me. £65 is awfully expensive for a chargers, especially one that has this many problems.

    Longevity Issues

I'm willing to spend the extra money on Apple products because they are usually high quality items with beautiful design. This charger has not lived up to the standards I'm used to with this company. The sheathing was super thin and allowed for frayed wires to hang out. I would expect for this product to last more than 2 years as all of my other Apple products have (including earbuds and usb cables). Will have to purchase another even though I don't want to spend the money on a flawed product.

    Once again the cord failed.

The Magsafe adapter is a good adapter except for one fatal flaw: Inadequate strain relief where the cable meets the body of the charger means that eventually, and inevitably the cable will break. Mine just broke and shorted out, getting very hot. Thankfully the charger has good protection and cut out.

This is the second one that I have had suffer this problem. I'm going to add my own strain relief if and when I get a new one.

    Why, Apple? Why?

With my 2010 White Unibody Macbook charger, I have never ONCE replaced it within the 4 years I've had it. I purchased my Macbook Pro 1 year ago and I am already having to purchase another $80 charger. This is absurd. Apple, PLEASE listen to your consumers and get your cords back to the quality that they were previously!

As far as it doing its job, it charges my Macbook and does it well. Only complaint there is that the brick heats up quickly and gets me worried about placing it on certain surfaces. The extension cord is pretty durable.

    Its a Okay Charger

The reason for the 2 star is that this charger detaches way to easily and as far as the magnetic feature it doesnt always just connect, its a fairly durable charger and it charges pretty quickly but its the not the apple quality that is usually given with is company

    Good Function, Not Durable

Like everyone else my cord frayed. This came with my first macbook ever and I treat it like my baby. Cord started to split open near the laptop and exposing wires. Patched it with tape, but it just happened more and got super sketchy to use because it looks dangerous. I think the little clip for coiling the cord gets too tight if the cord is hot. Still, it is a silly problem to have as I've never had a cord fray like that on me and I'v had several laptops. It also looks like the T tip is a backwards step from the L tip because it is ill suited for charging from the far side of the computer which just so happens to be the direction I always have to charge from.

    Horrible improvement

Please bring back the original MagSafe! MagSafe 2 is an antidote to improvement! IT is horrible; while the original one stayed in, it was small and sleek, and the cord faced towards the back - huge help, this new one is bigger, sticks out too much, gets knocked out way to easy. The cord sticks straight out, which is not helping the issue. I have not had issues with fraying yet, but I ve only had a computer for a few months. If only MagSafe was compatible with the new Pro, I would use that instead.

Apple needs to use better cable materials

Please improve the charger cable at least on the newer MacBook pros. The current cable is not good. The magnet works fine but the cable is fragile under normal use.

    Won't Stay In

I don't know why Apple can't leave well-enough alone. The older version of the MagSafe adapter was great. It had a low profile and sat very close to the body of the computer. This one sticks out 3cm from the side at 90 degrees. As a result, it catches on things and pulls out constantly. I frequently grab the computer with my right hand from the right side and place it onto a flat surface. If you do this, the cord hits the table and comes out, disconnecting the power. Is this really the work of an engineering team? This is the improved design they came up with? Where is Donald Trump when you need him? "You're Fired!!"
