This is a controversial question. The Apple operating system is closed unlike Windows and Android and is less susceptible to being compromised. Saying that, strange things can happen. Malicious code can possible enter an Apple device via attachments to e-mail and some applications. Having any security software installed is like having health insurance--you may never use it, but when you need it is there. All security software does slow down your system, but that is the price of protection. If you are disciplined enough not to open strange attachments that entice your curiosity you are in good shape, but unpredictable things do happen. Do you need it, if you are a gambler, NO, if you understand that Cyberspace can have monsters lurking in the shadows, you need it.
