No. The dock simply charges your iPhone whilst a lightning cable is plugged in to the dock. The dock is mainly used as decoration and allows you to show off your marvellous iPhone!

  • No, you have to plug in your lightening cable to the back of the dock then put your iPhone on to charge. This dock is mainly for looks and sets your iPhone up for you while charging it. Some Apple cases do work with the dock.

  • No, but I have a slightly different perspective than some of the others that have posted. I don't have this particular one. I had one for my iPhone 4, but there are actually some very practical benefits.

    - If you have it propped up beside you while you're working, you're less likely to miss an incoming call, text, etc. if the volume is down (typical in work environments - if you're respectful of others).
    - It's a little easier to use it as a speakerphone upright, in my opinion, if your hands are on a keyboard or mouse.
    - You can see it better from a slight distance without having to pick it up - if you're using it for an alarm clock.

God forbid you should spill a drink close to it. If that happens, the base takes the hit - not your $700 iPhone.
