Does apple tv eliminate the need for a local cable provider, or will i need to keep my cable service to see my local channels?
With Apple TV, Do I still need an Internet provider, such as TimeWarner or Comcast?

You need to keep your internet service provider, and if you want to watch your local cable channels, you'll need to keep your cable TV service also.
Apple TV does NOT replace any of your existing services; it simply ADDS additional media content available on the internet (e.g. YouTube, iTunes video rentals, etc.). Most of these services are free, but some (like Netflix) require a subscription.
