Is a 1.8GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 MBA 4GB 256GB (july 2011) as good as a 13-inch: 2.7 GHz 2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 4GB MBP with 500GB

i am a secondary school student so i surf the web and watch videos online quite a lot and play Facebook apps. i like the mac book air because of its weight but people tell me that a mac book pro is better as it is faster. Do i need such fast speeds for my laptop considering that i only use it for leisure and sometimes research and not hardcore gaming or anything? i got only a few songs ( like under 50 ) in my iTunes and some pictures.I do some Photoshop for fun so, is a MBA good enough as my primary computer? Advice would be appreciated thanks

Simple answer: No. To start, GHz stands for gigahertz, which is the refresh rate at which the processor performs. You will definitely get better, faster performance out of the 2.7 GHz MacBook Pro. Both RAM sets are nearly identical from what I can tell, they're both 4GB, but it is possible that the MacBook Pro's RAM set might be better since the RAM's refresh rate 1333MHz (I'm not sure if the MacBook Air's RAM is slower in its refresh rate). Hard drives... The MacBook Air has a solid-state drive, which is EXTREMELY FAST! However, you obviously get more storage in a MacBook Pro with 500 GB of storage, however, the hard drive does not utilize flash storage. This results in slightly slower startup speeds and applications, however, upgraded RAM can compensate for this (and its not really necessary to upgrade either the hard drive or RAM set for your uses). Personally, I would say to buy the MacBook Pro, as the MacBook Air is quite fragile and may contain a faster hard drive, but it sacrifices storage space. Bottom line, the MacBook Pro IS the better laptop here, and although you may not require such speed, it's always nice to have extra speed and features for if and when you need them. Pay the extra cash for a better computer (the MacBook Pro), you won't regret it.
