    Awesome Keyboard!!

I had to replace my old Apple Keyboard after some of the keys stopped working. I was reluctant to buying this keyboard because it is so thin, and thought that I would have trouble typing on it...I was wrong. This keyboard is awesome, it's very easy to type on and looks easier to maintain if it gets dirty. Nice job Apple!!!

    The perfect typing tool!

If you don't own this keyboard, then you should. Its sleek contemporary design is very attractive, but I think it's the best feeling keyboard I've ever laid hands on. My finger tips seriously brush against the keys like a comb in angel's hair.

    Go buy it.

    Inconsistent key sound

An interesting keyboard marred by the lack of tonal harmony across all the key sounds when typing - the space bar sets a new low in Apple engineering. It sounds clumsy and weak similar to an old Imperial or Olivetti typewriter. Put the sound of the space bar with the other keys and you have the end to your perfect day at 8am! It seems unbelievable that Apple of all people should let this through unchecked. Not good value at around $50 - how much more for a consistent space bar sound? $2? $5? $10?
Back to the drawing board, boys and girsl!

    Great Keyboard

Keyboard has been up & running for a couple of hours & it's brilliant! Piece of cake to set up, as always with Apple. Wonderfully responsive, nice feel very solid - well worth the cash.

My wife has a great cleaning method wish may be useful to a previous reviewer - use baby wipes. Genius! If only I'd thought of that a few years ago 'cos I killed my wireless Pro Keyboard by clumsy cleaning.

    Best way to clean?.......

Nice keyboards although occasionally manage to 'outpace' the wireless version and drop odd characters.

Do get grubby quite easily and need regular cleaning....

Best and safest way I've found?

Use a MILD 'pump action' non-residue, clear, spray cleaner such as sold for cleaning glass.

Hold keyboard upside down and spray a LITTLE cleaner upwards onto the keys - that way the possibility of liquid running down into the membranes is minimised.

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe over surface - while keyboard is still upside down - i.e. removing any excess liquid droplets....

Turn right way up and work around the keyboard's now slightly damp surface with the cloth.

Should come up as new - works well for me - never damaged one yet.

Awesome keyboard with one minor problem

As the other reviews state, and I endorse, the keyboard is great, the keys feel great and all, but there is one minor issue, and it has to do with apple USB connectors.

The connectors in the keyboard are very strong and tight, but given the type of USB plugs from, say, an iPod touch, or a mighty mouse, it is VERY hard to pluck them out of the keyboard since they are square and smooth. If you never have to remove apple stuff from the keyboard, there is no problem, but if you do, you'd better have very strong fingers.

Great, except for the DVORAK conversion

This keyboard is great, especially if you like the QWERTY layout.

I use the DVORAK layout though, and figured switching would be trivial as it was with all other Apple keyboards I've had, including macbooks and the old style desktop keyboard. This keyboard, however, has all the tabs but two (J and F) in vertical positions. The J and F keys' tabs are horizontal. This means that if you switch the keys, you have to put four back in sideways (J, F, U and H). It's not a big deal, but I'd prefer if all my keys were in the same orientation. I also can't see any reason to put two key tabs in sideways.

Indestructible, Superior Key Feel, Immune to Liquid Spills

The touch and feel of the keys and keyboard are the best of any keyboard that I've ever used. Everyone in the family remarks about how good the touch and feel of the keyboard are.

I spilled a full glass of orange juice directly on the keyboard, Held it under the kitchen sink faucet until the water ran clear. Set it on end on paper tiles for 30 minutes then propped each end with books over an air conditioning register, keyboard side down for an hour. Plugged it in and it worked great. No effect on the keys, no stickiness.

    Great for klutzes like me.

so new and already a classic

I love this keyboard! It's slim and flat but also stylish (of course it would be!). The keys are great and on touch, offer the slightest of resistance, just sufficient to be able to lean the respective finger on it. Doing touch-typing the keyboard is quiet and responsive.
A far cry from the "clonky" and oversized keyboards out there. Having seen the "compact" (small) Apple keyboard (without number pad), I think the one here WITH numeric pad is better, but that is personal taste.

Oh Apple Keyboard, how I love thee! Let me count the ways!

This is hands down the best keyboard I ever used! I love the keys on it and it looks great on my desk. I can type so much better and the key throws are perfect. The only thing that would make this better would be to make it backlit... Ahhh... I can dream.

Apple hit a home run with this beauty! Now if only the Mighty Mouse was as good...

    Want to Like it

I want to like this keyboard. It's a gorgeous object and looks great on my desk.

Unfortunately, the low profile flat keys make maintaining a consistent typing position more difficult than it should be, and their extremely short travel provides little positive feedback. I find the half-size function keys impossible to hit without looking.

The fn key is badly located for a modifier key, and requires weird contortions to use it. And Apple's habit if using standard icons to represent the other modifier keys but not printing them on the relevant keys continues.

Worse, the handsome matte white keys don't stay handsome long. They're dirt magnets, and quickly stain to a uniform level of dinge that defies cleaning.

Finally, I've been through three of them in 18 months. Admittedly, I pound on them 8-12 hours a day and no doubt need to get a life, but still... a keyboard, like a shoe sole, should be designed to take some pounding.

Guess I'm just a sucker for a pretty face...

    Great Look!

This keyboard looks terrific! With its polished alluminum and flat white keys, it is a stylish accent for any desk and functions well. Also, the two added usb ports are a real plus!

Nice keyboard but be careful when cleaning

After few months I've decided to clean up slightly. Tried be gently as is possible, turned up keyboard and cleaned with cloth and small dose of water. After that keyboard keyboard was completely dead! I haven't any problems with old white keyboard which was a lot more solid than this one. I must admit, recent keyboards are fragile and very sensitive on water.

Great for Loads of Data Input

I'm a therapist and I have to write so many progress notes, I swear I spend more time with my keyboard than I do with my actual clients! Literally, I spend nearly 3-4 hours a day typing. I bought this keyboard spur-of-the-moment after getting tired of my old keyboard's buttons sticking, and having to pound them to get each letter on the screen. This was the best instantaneous purchase I've ever made. The low-set keys require much less finger-lift and barely any pressure at all. I'm not really pushing the keys, but simply allowing my fingers to fall on the key pads. Had I know this would have made my typing so much easier and quicker, I would have bought it the day it came out. The 'complaints' about this keyboard in other reviews are technical and extraneous. If you're looking for something that makes typing a breeze, then this is definitely it.

Wonderful, but how do you clean the keys?

Wonderful in every way but the keys soon get grubby (yes I do wash my hands). Does any one know of a safe way to clean these greying keys.

    Fantastic

This keyboard is amazing. The keys are perfect to type on and they make it so much easier to type, it is also faster to type on too! It looks great on my desk, really stylish! It would go great with any Mac as well. Great work on this one Apple!

    Beautiful design, good functionality

The design is really pleasing as I'm sure you can see.

I have a problem with the capslock key - if you tap it, it doesn't do anything. You really have to press it. i.e. for 1/4 second or something. It doesn't register using my usual speed. I'm sure i'll get used to it, but it seems like an unnecessary quirk.

I like the key press depth, sound, position of most of the buttons. There could be more correlation with the MBP, but never mind! It's a real pleasure to type on, so 4.

    Excellent Keyboard!

I bought this keyboard when it first came out and love it to death. Took a day or so to get use to the keys but now I can type faster and more precise on the Apple Aluminum keyboard than on any other. After 1.5 years of daily use, a whole bottle of water spilled right in the poor keyboard! I was not there when it happened so by the time I got to it, many keys did not work. I tried other keyboards and could not even type on them! So I went to my local Apple Store and bought another! Nice to have my favorite keyboard back again!

I really wish that Apple would make a Full Sized Bluetooth version with a Number Keypad for us Data Entry people!

    Highly recommended!
