Nice Style. No performance problems. Why move volume keys?

I am very pleased with the design of this keyboard. I feel like I can type half again as fast as before. It's much like typing on a laptop. If you're not into that sort of thing, perhaps this is not for you. My only qualm is the decision to move the volume keys. They should have left them on F16-19. I know that makes things difficult for the wireless keyboard, which doesn't even go that high, but still. Occasionally, I like to switch my keyboard over to a Windows machine, and I loved the fact that the volume up, down, and mute buttons worked so well even on another OS. Such is not the case with this keyboard. But hey...not everyone is in the same boat as me. Enjoy!

    Not bad!

I purchased this keyboard in hopes of having the macbook keyboard feel for my Macbook Pro. I absolutely love how it looks, and everyone that sees it is blown away by how thin it is. USB ports are secluded underneath the keyboard so your device's unsightly plug doesnt stick out--you just see the wire coming out from under the keyboard. The feel is nice and the keys are quiet. Ergonomically its not much better or worse than any other standard keyboard.

    Wow!

That had to be the best $49 investment I have made lately. I was so happy to junk my old Apple keyboard you have no idea! I hope this new technology is what Apple intends to use on its laptops. Thanks Steve!

    Beautiful! But....

I just brought the wired keyboard. Its beautiful, and feels really good to type on.
It took me a while to figure out that I needed to download new software from apple to make the function keys work (hint hint to the review below this) but after that it was perfect. The music control keys are especially useful as I no longer have to switch apps if I want to change what I'm listening to.
My only complaint is that in system prefrences under the dashboard and expose tab, it still shows the old key assignments, also, there is now no obvious way to access the expose functions other than "show all windows" as there is no way to assign "show desktop" and "show application windows" to the other function keys.
Also, i think that a key for front row would have been nice.
    Sloppy on the software apple!

    Why?

From seventeen years a Mac user: Congratulations to Apple - they have reinvented the keyboard. The trouble is, it didn't need re-inventing. Instead of giving us form over function for $49, why can't we have a keyboard with the feel of Apple keyboards of old, for which a lot of us would be entirely prepared to pay more? I know of many die-hard Apple users who are still using Apple Extendeds of early 1990s vintage. True, this new keyboard seems to be an improvement over the previous horrors, but its low profile and complete lack of adjustability fly in the face of ergonomic standards. And what's with the tiny Return key? But hey, it looks cool... and that's all that seems to matter these days. Jonathan, see me after class.

    New keyboard works great

We got two keyboards directly as they came out. Since we had never used them it was a buying decision based entirely on aesthetics and the clear advantage of them being obviously very easy to clean. We've been using them for about two weeks now and the ease of use is tremendous. Not only do they look good and are easy to clean, the typing itself is fast and a lot less noisy, the keys are more solid and easier to press, and the flatness dramatically reduces strain on the wrists when typing (why didn't anyone come up with this before?). All in all a tremendous product we would recommend to anyone.

    USB Warning!

First off this keyboard is great to type on, but the main draw was the USB 2.0 (or so i thought) hub. It is not sufficiently powered as apple stated. "We Thought Of Everything" I guess you did think of everything, except the customer... I really hope this is fixed, just on the basis that i really do like typing on it... Pretty dissapointing, apple.

    Love, Love, Love It!

I ordered this keyboard as a replacement for the one that came with my iMac (that keyboard significantly slowed down my typing speed and accuracy) and I absolutely love it, after having used it for a mere 10 minutes. My typing is faster and more accurate with this new keyboard.

All of the special keys worked perfectly as soon as I finished downloading and installing the keyboard software update.

The only thing I do not like is that I cannot plug a USB drive into the keyboard. When I do, I get a message saying there isn't enough power for the device. Other than that one minor difficulty, it's an excellent keyboard, which I would recommend to anyone.

    KVM doesn't work!

I am currently using the clear plastic Apple keyboard with a G7 wireless mouse. They are connected to a Iogear USB switch that connect a Apple G4 and a Sony desktop. The clear plastic Apple keyboard works GREAT in this Mac-PC network. Until I brought the brand new aluminum USB keyboard today, the keyboard simply does nothing with the KVM switch. Apple can do better than this. Don't they know how many Mac-PC users in the world? Please tell who ever doing the keyboard design to fix this problem ASAP! Also, please tell who ever doing marketing in the Apple headquarter, IT IS NOT ABOUT MAKING PC USERS SWITCHING TO MAC or MAKING PC WINDOWS WORKING IN MAC OS ENVIRONMENT, it is CO-EXIST - STUPID! Without PC comparison, people won't think Apple design is so cool. A lot of people, like me, in the world using both Mac and PC with KVM switch. Can't Apple fix a simple problem like this?

ps. The 1-Star is for the good design of the box. For a keyboard doesn't work, there is no stars for it.

    Quiet, clean, and solid.

A huge leap forward for Apple keyboards. The new keyboards are more comfortable to type with, due to the low-rise of the keys from the desk and due to the crisp, responsive motion of the keys. The new key style is extremely quiet. The particular location of the auxilary USB ports means that the keyboard maintains its slick and elegant appearance even with all manner of devices plugged into it. (Besides, it appears to me that it will be less prone to dirt build-up beneath the keys as most keyboards are.) An overall excellent product, of which I have no complaints. I make excuses to use this keyboard!

    An incredible achievement.

The new Apple Keyboard is a work of art. The tactile sublimity must be experienced first-hand; I can't adequately describe it, but I'll try. The keys are solid. Really solid. I can hear the faint "thud thud thud" of my keystrokes resonating through my desktop as I type.

For right-handers, the smaller footprint allows you to move the keyboard closer to your mouse, bringing the letter keys into alignment with the center of your monitor. The low profile provides for a much more natural positioning of your hands, even if you rest the heels of your hands on the desk.

Aesthetically, it is stunning. I've never been emotionally moved by a keyboard until now. It is design in its purest form. There are no unnecessary lines or forms. Only functional beauty. As a product designer and an engineer, the keyboard simultaneously fills me with joy and envy. If you have one in front of you, take a close look at the corners of the keyboard frame. Notice how the radius of the frame is concentric to the radius of the key. That is a line of poetry in a love letter to design.

Though seemingly insignificant compared to the recent high-profile product launches, I believe that the future will look back on this keyboard as a watershed achievement in Apple's legendary design history.

    Brilliant!!

At last, a keyboard to match the ellegant design of my G5 and what a keyboard! Looks marvellous and works perfectly, so much better than the old clunky white one. My wife says that it is not so good for a touch typist but its fine for a four finger novice like me. All the new function keys work perfectly and the software update went on effortlessly. A must have for all G5 owners. Well done Apple.

    Love it!!

I absolutely love the new Apple keyboard! It works great on my Mac at home as well as my PC at work. My desktop looks much less cluttered with my old PC keyboard out of the way! I will definitely get a second one for work. The only problem with using it on a PC is that there doesn't seem to be a way for me to use one of the function keys beyond F12 for the weird DOS button like Pause/Break and Print Screen. I wish this weren't the case, but some of my work apps require those buttons. Anyway, again, this is a wonderful keyboard and I highly recommend it for Macs and PCs.

    Neat! Recommend upgrade.

Very low profile. Will take some getting use to. Very fast typing. Smooth key strokes. Keys are spaced perfectly. I also like the new keys and layout. I have full control watching movies with DVD player using the control keys. This keyboard works perfect with the keyboard update 1.1. I did not have to manually change anything.

Very sleek design worth the price. Recommend buying.

    Amazing

This keyboard goes far beyond my expectations. By far the most comfortable keyboard I've ever used. It actually makes typing faster and fun. Only drawback is the fn key to use some of the more elaborate F functions. For $49.00 I'll probably get another to keep at work. Good luck selling the wireless though, no numbers section. BIG mistake.

    Freak out.

Apple's new keyboard is, hands down, (heh) the best-feeling keyboard I've ever typed on, and I've typed on quite a few.

The separation between they keys improves my typing accuracy and the small travel distance means the time between initiating a keypress and the psychological registration of successfully doing so is shortened. The end result is a crispness to the typing experience which should have been there from the get go.

The keyboard that preceded this one is an atrocity which makes the beauty, functionality, and design of this keyboard stand out all the more starkly.

If you have been looking for a keyboard for just that perfect feel, this is the keyboard for you.

    A Must Buy For Everyone!

Until I got my new keyboard, I thought there was a limit to how sexy a keyboard could be. But Apple did it, they created to coolest (by far), the best designed keyboard in the history of mankind. Good job guys.

    I Love this Keyboard!

Wow, this keyboard is night and day better than the older ones. I have a 6 month old iMac and when i bought it i got the wireless keyboard. it was ok but i really didnt care for it much. Yesterday i picked up this wired new apple keyboard and it is fantastic. Im writing this review because im simply looking for an excuse to type something haha. Apple came out wth yet again another fantastic product. If nothing else this one shouldnt get near as dirt as the old ones because the old ones had all the cracks and creases everywhere and were only white. Im very happy, you just have to download the software for the hotkeys to work from apple downloads

Excellent keyboard and USB is capable of charging and synchronizing iPod

This is a great piece of new hardware. It came with my iMac and I'm very impressed with it. It is an order of magnitude better than the previous white keyboard. I was first impressed with it's weight. It's like a heavy sheet of aluminum with the keys slightly raised above the surface. The touch is light and at first seems odd but after a while it is much easier typing on this than on the old keyboard. My favorite part about it is that gunk can't get stuck in it for everyone to see through the clear plastic of the old keyboard. As for previous posts that complained the USB didn't function well, this keyboard works great with my iPod plugged into the side USB port.

Out of the Box into Warp Drive

When I received your email about the 'new' imac I was peeved, because I had just bought an imac & a mac pro two months ago.

After coming around, I drove forty miles across town to look at the new imac & try out the new keyboard. I was totally elated by the fine engineering Apple is accomplishing. I immediately ordered two new keyboards for my June purchases on my two relatively new computers!

While waiting for delivery for the new keyboards, I read the Apple reviews concerning the keyboards. So here is our two cents ...

    WOW!

We plugged in, downloaded the software update ... and are off into the wild blue yonder. We are absolutely thrilled with the new new new keyboards.

No problems at all in functionality or use, in fact it makes you wonder why you haven't had a keyboard like this before. This is the way a keyboard should BE! Quick to the touch, light to the touch, almost silent and oh so elegant!!!!!

We both give Apple a hearty THANK YOU and we are still devoted Apple fans!
