Come on Guys, you can do better!

Love the aluminum, the keys have a decent feel to them..but 3 things: Wireless version should have the NUMBER KEYS! , and WHERE IS THE BACKLIGHTING? Come on apple this should have been your starting point! the USB ports I prefer to be in the middle like the last generation.. just a personal preference, it's easier to route the mouse cable if the plug is in the back, on the side is a liitle harder to manipulate and place the cable.. other than those gripes.. love the material, and the feedback is resonalbly firm, love the size of the keyboard and it's about time they made it of aluminum!

    I didn't buy it...

I saw this at the Apple Store and, in spite of how sleek it looks, I didn't buy it.
    Here's why;
    1) I'm waiting on a backlit keyboard!!! You've put the technology into my Macbook Pro, why couldn't you take that best bit of tech to the Apple Keyboard as long as you were re-styling the thing? Until a backlit board is available, I'll stick with the one on the laptop. I'm VERY surprized that Apple isn't yet building a backlit keyboard for its wonderful computers....
    2) I'm rather concerned that the USB's don't really support all devices. One of the biggest reasons laptoppers buy a keyboard is to add USB power to the Book. If this new keyboard doesn't do that for me, it's another reason for not spending the money.
3)Esthetically speaking...white keys in an aluminum board? Shoulda gone with aluminum keys. Even more sleek that way- it's one of the things that makes the Macbook Pro so appealing. Let's face it; Apple is about LOOKS too.

    Nice & Precise

I must say that this new design is a quantum leap from that of the previous generation. They keys take a little getting used to, but I find that my typing speeds have increased dramatically on the new keyboard. It also compliments my previous generation Cinema HD Display nicely and gives the whole system an updated feel.

Keyboard looks hot but strange space bar??

The keyboard looks hot and sits on the desk amazingly but my space bar doesn't space like the old one? sometimes it misses spaces and it needs to be pressed harder than the old mac keyboards? did i just get a dud one?

I bought this to replace the existing Apple "Crumb Catcher" keyboard I use with a KVM between my Mac Mini and Dell tower. Well, the Mac Mini won't recognize it through the KVM - yet the Dell does. So, it works fine on Windows but doesn't with my Mini. Infuriating. Such has been my 3 year journey with the Mac. This is the end of the road. I'm done with Apple.

    Elegant & Simple!

I come from using an MS natural keyboard (which really helped me learn to type faster) but I thought it was time for a change... and this keyboard is really very nice. I love the design and feel and I type very fast on it. I think the size of the unit is the best I have ever seen and the key spacing is excellent. Very nice job, Apple!!

Great Style at the Expense of Function

I love the new style. Today I went to the Apple Store to check it out. But I didn't buy one. I find the changes to the F keys, as well as their smaller size, undesirable. I use a lot of professional apps were the F keys are used often. There is the system preference to make the F keys use the software function, but the keyboard doesn't have a Fn key to make the F keys use the hardware function. (Perhaps Shift? or Option?) I am also a laptop user and ideally I would like to use a full size wireless keyboard. Neither of the new keyboards fulfills my needs.

    Nice addition to one's Mac.

Got the keyboard today, very sleek, very modern looking, all keys work well, for those used to laptop keyboards you'll feel right at home. The additional keys are useful. be warned this keyboard is THIN and sits low to your work surface. Nice USB ports on either end of keyboard also. Good job design team....me like it alot.

May not work with your KVM

Sexy and nice feeling keyboard. However, I was unable to get it to work with my KVM switch (Iogear MiniView Micro USB PLUS).

Apple has outdone themselves this time. This is a true leap from the last generation of Apple keyboards. The new key placement is not at all a problem, but then I'm used to Jumping in between my MacBook and other iMacs. As for the USB ports it’s the same as the old keyboards, don't be surprised if it wont power your power-hungry iPod. C’mon' did you really think that splitting 1 USB port into 3 wouldn't make a difference?!
An outstanding product by apple, again. Highly Recommended!

    Outstanding and Gorgeous

This keyboard is the reason why I love Mac so much. Looks and Quality. I am replacing the first FP iMac keyboard with this one. All I can say is, "No comparison".

The keys have a great feel about them. The low profile is nicer for typing.

The quality is second to none. Sturdy for such a thin keyboard.

The looks? A beauty to behold! I was at Office Depot last night and looked at their keyboard display. What a joke compared to Apple's keyboard.

Thinking of upgrading your present keyboard? Think no more. Go out and get one.

Solid but the F keys are too small.

The keyboard is solid and well made but if you have large hands the F keys up top are just too small. I understand the desire to make things less bulky and more streamlined but they went too far this time. Their decision to combine some off the other controls (volume, etc) with the F keys is just not helpful for how I work.

    Great but...

The keyboard is great. I like the feel and the key response. The only grip I have is the USB ports. They are on the side of the keyboard instead of the middle. It bunches up the mouse cable when it is in my keyboard tray. I also like not getting any junk between the keys with the new design (3 kids always eating while on the computer). Highly recommended.

    Beautiful keyboard, not for everyone...

I bought this the morning it came on the site - my older apple keyboard whilst responsive was too clunky and heavy. and sitting 8 hours a day at it, I started to get tired wrists from the height.

Let's set aside the looks - they're fantastic. And the anodysed look closely matches my monitors and mac pro case - good job apple!
The response takes a very slight getting used to, but once you have it's far easier to type from and completely comfortable during long sessions.

This keyboard might still not be a replacement for everyone though:
the additional shortkeys at the top may be great for the casual user, but if like me you're a pro apps user, beware that such keys as the volume controls have been stuck onto the F keys. F keys that you may use constantly in Final Cut Pro.
You can turn the volume controls off when you use such apps, but personally I find it a little tricky to juggle between the two.

Just a word of warning if you are a heavy apps user, otherwise a very solid product that combines great looks with impressive functionality.

    close but no cigar

I love the new keyboard. But there is only one thing.I hate the white keys.Come on apple black keys would have been much better. At least give the customer a choice. That why i kept three of the old keyboards with the black keys.I hate white!!!!!!!!!But other than that its great. And illuminated with the ambient light like the mac book pro would have been nice.

    numeric pad

Beautiful device, perfectly weight-balanced, the keys are exactly what i needed.

BUT i sooo wish for a bt wireless full keyboard!
I definitely need my numpad (mographers that use after effects now why), which keeps me from getting the wireless version of this baby :(

Overall it's a good keyboard. BUT I WISH THAT THE WIRELESS HAD THE NUMBER PAD ON THE RIGHT!!!! Some people use that thank you very much. That's my only nag. I would have gotten the wireless but i need the number pad so i got stuck with the wired. It's solid and types well. It take s a little getting used to from other mac keyboards (besides the Macbook). But that'll pass.

    Just shy of 5 Stars

The sleek aluminum casing makes any desktop look great. That combined with its low profile keeps it out of the way, seeming to give you more desk space (although probably not).

The 2 side USB ports are great, easy to access, and easier to use then its predecessor which placed the ports in the back by the wire which made the original model very inconvenient.

This is by far worth the money, and is an excellent replacement to the other keyboards.

2 problems, decreasing from 5 to 4 stars:

    1. They provided a USB adapter to lengthen the USB cord connecting to the back of the computer. Instead of providing a "universal" one to be used in the side USB ports, they made a small notch in the USB connection so that you can ONLY use it as a keyboard plug extension. This limitation was a disappointment, as you may want to extend the length of the peripheral you're plugging into the keyboard, not just the keyboard wire itself.

    2. F3 and F4 functions are not working for me, even after the software update. These are supposed to be Expose functions, but do not activate "all windows" or "dashboard" as indicated. I have tried reinstalling everything, and hope that Apple will have a fix. The current fix would be to assign expose functions manually to alternate F keys.

    Hope this helped!

Lousy feel, poor redesign of the F keys

The keys have a very soft feel and don't give enough feedback for the small amount they travel. The spacebar feels cheap and makes a plasticy click ever time I press it.
The placement of the expose, dashboard and volume keys is horrible. This isn't a laptop keyboard so why am I subjected to pressing the fn key to get to certain functions? Only buy this keyboard if you like the feel of a laptop keyboard, if you like the limitations of a laptop keyboard or if you just love pushing that fn key. It feels like a cheap toy and it is step backwards in keyboard design.
