Works Great, If You Clean It

I also had the problem of the scroll ball not moving down. I came to the Apple website and found the reviews for the product. I found others with the same problem. I learned from Clean It! DM from Chicago, that it will work great if you clean the ball every so often. Simply use the lint free cloth that comes with your computer and roll it over the scroll ball. At first if it doesn't work use a electronic equipment wipe. Do this for a little while and it will be brand new. Don't spend $50 on a new one, it will be fine if you just clean it. Thanks again DM from Chicago.

    not happy

The mighty mouse looks good and is easy to work with ... if it works.
I have had two of them. The first one didn't work well, I returned it and got it freely replaced with a new one that isn't working well either. In fact it seems that it is the normal behavior of this mouse.

Both mice show two major problems:
    1) Whether you can move the pointer depends heavily on the surface you are using it on. There are many tables and desks where I used my old $9 logitech without any problem where the "mighty" mouse gives hardly any pointer movement.
    2) The scrollwheel stops working within weeks and seems virtually irreparable.

I won't bother returning the mouse again. I threw it away.

    The Apple Mouse (RAT)

Yep, Mine took a little longer then the others. I had and idea I could take it apart and clean it, that was easy...getting it back together ...another story. There are 4 tiny roller with magnetic wheels and these surround the ball. The shafts on these rollers is where the problem starts. Grease from your fingers collects on the ball and gets on the rollers and collects there. Maybe a moisten napkin or a Q-tip with rubbing alcohol a few times a month over the ball could save the rest of you. Just don't take it apart!!!

    Not good

I have had this mouse for about two years and about every 3 months the down scroll with the ball no longer works. At first I replaced the mouse then that mouse did it too. The best way I found was to blow in the roller area to clean out some gunk but now no matter what I do it doesn't work. The lack of down scroll when that happens is so frustrating when you are so used to using it. I would not recommend getting this mouse.

    mighty mouse

Even though I'm an Apple fan, this mouse has been very hard to use. After half a year, the scroll button began to jam and and when I would click the right button, it would recognize it as the left button. The only very useful part of the Apple Mighty Mouse is the force-sensing buttons on the side. Other than that, all the other features have been hard to deal with.

The scroll ball stops working, after a very short period of time.

Mighty isn't all lies at least!

I bought my Macbook Pro Leopard back in September and loved it since, along with it I purchased a Mighty mouse just to get into the "Mac Spirit" (love it!).

However, as much as I love Mac over Windows by far now and hate to leave negative comments, the mighty mouse is rather irritating for 2 reasons.
    1) The right click is almost like a chore to click onto
    2) The Squeeze feature that brings up multiple windows (Exposé?) drives me INSANE even the slightest touch will send it crazy. Love the feature but far toooooo sensitive, sadly don't want to disable i either because I use it very frequently.

    Positive:
The scroll ball innovation is fabulous, I love it and it works wonders. For those who complain about it getting mucky and using it often, I do too but for crying out loud, wash your hands more often? Mine is spotless and works wonderfully. Still my first MM and hope never to need a replacement.

    MIGHTY MOUSE FAILURE

After a mere 14 months use (and despite regular cleaning) I have lost the vertical scrolling function on my Mighty Mouse. What is really disheartening however, is to encounter, via this review/feedback page, dozens of similarly dissatisfied customers/users. Additionally, the wire is cheap, nasty and way too short. I used to recommend Mac products unhesitatingly to my friends, but on the experience of this I will think twice. Mac, you've got a problem! Care to solve it?

    Wireless Mouse

A great little device until the track wheel gets dirty! Lets face it, our fingers are not always as clean as the inside of a Mac testing lab and in time the track ball stops working. I don't mind having to clean it - but I do mind not being able to open the thing to do it properly!!!

Poor Design by those wanting aesthetic over function

This is my fifth "mighty mouse" and hopefully the last. I would gladly buy a box full of the older mouse(sans scroll button) but can't find them...any help there?

My main complaint is the forward press down. The clicking action of pressing the mouse down and slightly forward is too shallow which makes sudden choices on it's own accord because I didn't press down hard enough to keep the scroll searching. I have done some crazy choices this way and ruined a few files because the action is so quick, the choice goes into play before I can figure out what I did wrong? I don't know if the bumper wears down, but the click is too soft and slight for a man's hand.

Basically, I hate this mouse. I would try lesser brand options, but the snob in me sticks to the white. I think that time has passed. Apple...please, make an option or two for consumers not enchanted by your monopoly of your own product. You make several options for laptops and iPods...why not the basics? We all need mice.

    Great Mouse

Was a bit wary of getting the mouse due to all the negative comments but need not have worried. Basically another great Apple product! The right and left click works accurately and the scroll ball is superb, I am planning to get the wireless version at a later stage

    Clean it!

I had been enjoying my Mighty Mouse for several months, then the trackball stopped working properly (it wouldn't scroll down). I thought I needed to replace the mouse, but checked the support forums first. The Mighty Mouse trackball CAN be cleaned. Turn the mouse upside down and rub the trackball with a lint free cloth such as the one that comes with the iMac. This solved my problem and has restored the might of my mouse.

    Mighty Mouse

Excellent product. Its only let down by the fact the cord is too short. It can hardly go round the back of my macbook, as I'm right handed! Come on Apple, give us another 30cms of cable!!!!!
Otherwise its brilliant. Scroll button, right click, apple design...its got it all.

    worst mouse ever!

I've been through 2 now, and I'm fed up and can't be bothered taking it back to get another one. The scroll button is the main problem, it quickly becomes faulty/stuck and works when it wants to. The mouse also makes the pointer on the screen jumpy, so one moment you're at the bottom of the screen, then without moving the mouse you're at the top of the screen. Also depending on how you place your hand, it is very easy to click into the Dashboard without even meaning to. The mouse came with my imac (which wan't cheap) so I perservered, but really this product is a let down for Apple. It's plain nasty..don't bother.
I gave it one star because the ideas were good but the product isn't.

    PLEASE REPLACE THIS SCROLL BUTTON!

This mouse is terrible. The scroll button has clogged on me more times than I'd care to count. It is by far the worst mouse I have ever come in contact with. It's such a shame too because I love all Apple products and for something that I use so regularly they couldn't get it right. I've heard alcohol pads can help along with rubbing the scroll button on a damp towel but I've tried both ways and neither of them work. It really gets tiresome when you have to go the Apple Store repeatedly to fix this problem. I know this mouse comes with the computer but my advise to you would be to buy a different mouse because it gets annoying fast.

    Oh how wonderful

I just got mine 3 weeks ago with my new iMac. I hadn't used an Apple product since the late 90s and am just all impressed with the Mighty Mouse.

Mine started failing within a few days, obviously due to my dirty hands and no fault of Apples. Cleaning it worked, for a while.

It also entertained me by sometime playing fun little games. For example I would click a link and it would ask me where I wanted to save it. Huh? Then it would jump a few pages back in history and the, a few pages forward when I tried to scroll down.

I suppose I could have just started overhauling the little rodent every other day, but in the end, I had to squish the rat for I prefer to use a computer to work with, not on. I unplugged my cute little rat, and bought a new Microsoft mouse since I had never had the same fun and games with one of those.

I love my Microsoft mouse. It just works.

    Great concept, terrible performance

what frustrates me so much about this mouse is how much I love the way it is DESIGNED to work, but I hate the way it DOESN'T work. I do a lot of audio editing and the 360 degree scroller is WONDERFUL when it works. But after one year it now malfunctions so much I've had to get a replacement (and I'm not dropping another $50 just to have the same problem come up again). Better to just get a cheap mouse and supplement it with a Contour Shuttle Xpress (I love that thing)

    Broke after 6 months!

I liked this mouse in general. I met my needs, but after 6 months of use the scroll ball no longer works. As far as I can tell there is no way to take it apart and clean it either. I have microsoft mice that I have used for over a decade that do not have this problem (and require usb to ps2 converters). This is unacceptable.

I would not buy this mouse.

Not Bad... But Room for Improvement

This mouse has much to offer with its many features and customizable options! However, the scroll wheel get jammed often, I've had to take my mouse apart at least 5 times now to clean the wheel heads. Also, as I open this mouse it takes a great deal of patients and care to not damage it, as it was created without any screws or easy open access. With this and the material used to mold the mouse it becomes evident that Apple has no interest in this mouse being recycle friendly. Why? Every other product is going in that direction. I think that Apple should make a mouse that either doesn't get jammed easily or is easy to open and clean. Additionally, it should be made of aluminum. This way, it's environmentally friendly and it matches with the rest of the Apple lineup.
