    Scroller malfunction fix

I had similar problems with the scroller failing within a few months of buying the mouse. Really frustrated me till I read this review that a good citizen wrote for the wireless mouse. Try it...it works!

This is not a review - it's a fix for the scroller.

I went to the Apple store by my house today and talked to a guy about sending this mouse in for repair since I have only had it a few months. He said I needed an appointment, but he also said it was easily fixed. He advised me to clean the roller ball on the top with alcohol wipes or a q-tip soaked in alcohol.
I thought it wouldn't work but since I had to wait for my appointment to send it in to apple I tried it and cleaned it thoroughly with alcohol and a q-tip. I let it dry for five minutes and it works like new.
I am very pleased with the advice I got and just wanted to share with some of you who might be having the same problem.

    Apple fix this flaw

The roll ball is terrible. The mice should be replaced free of charge for the life of the computer.

    Major Disappointmen

This mouse is great when it works however started having problems scrolling up and down after 1 month. Follow the hints etc. and it will work better (never as well as it started) for awhile, but periodically stops scrolling again. Now 8 months later it appears to no longer scroll up or down. (side to side still works but how much do you use that?)

    Lame!

I received one for christmas - I have a couple at work and love them. After using it for just a couple of hours it started creaking and generally feels cheap. I compared it to the one attached to my wife's 2 year old imac and her's feels solid (as do mine at work). I took it back to the store and they replaced it for a new one. Just got home and began using it and this one feels flimsy as well! It literally squeaks (no pun intended) every time you even slightly press down on the top of the mouse. I guess I'll try returning it again for another and see if the third time's the charm.

    Scroll ball FTL

This is the 3rd Mighty Mouse I've used which ultimately leads to hair pulling frustration due to the scroll ball becoming useless. Tried cleaning countless times, ways just to be even more frustrated. Also the 2 side buttons randomly click themselves, they're way too sensitive. It's a great design for a mouse, just poor execution. They REALLY need to figure out a way to make these not fail at an alarming rate.

    Great Mouse!

This mouse is great. It really serves it's purpose for me. The only thing is that I got a USB extention for my keyboard and now I have to keep on unplugging it and plugging it back in every time I turn on my iMac.

    Mighty Mouse Scroll Wheel

I have to write and congratulate SL from Waterlooville on his tip about the scroll wheel on the mighty mouse. I have both a wired and wireless version both of which did not work, again after about a years use. I was actually looking for a replacement until I saw this post and now I have no need. Having followed these directions they are both now fully functional. I can now give these products four stars. I would give them five except I replaced a mighty mouse a year ago due to a failure of the scroll so I now feel I have wasted my money.

    Love it!

I've had my mouse for 5 months now and it's stopped working twice. Very frustrating! The roller ball completely stops working. However, all you do is clean the roller ball with rubbing alcohol. Dab some alcohol on a clean paper towel and rub the ball over and over on it. That's all it takes....a simple cleaning with alcohol. No need to spend lots of money purchasing a new mouse! A pain to have to do this, but the mouse is great otherwise!

    good mouse

This is a good mouse despite having to clean the scroll ball frequently with alcohol swab. That is annoying but otherwise a well designed product. My wrist no longer bothers me like it used to with my other mouse. My hand doesn't fall asleep or get cold now since I started using this mouse. So it may be more ergonomically designed than it looks. Lightweight, fast (when adjusted with the mac), and comfortable to use. Short cord tho. This doesn't bother me because I hate having all those long cords tangling up under your feet and on your desk. Overall good product, but be prepared to be cleaning the scroll ball.

    Short Cord

I like the mouse. It looks really cool, but the cord is too short. I have a mac mini, and the cord will not reach all the way around the back of it. I have to end up plugging it into my keyboard. Also, when you go to use the right click, you have to completely take your finger off of the left side of the mouse in order for the click to register. Other than these two issues, the mouse works fine and the scroll ball is innovative.

    works- doesn't work- works -dies

I loved this mouse for the first 3 months then it(the little trackball) started working whenever it felt like it and then quit completely nothing helps - not cleaning -not upside down on a piece of paper- nothing... How can this cost $49.00? it's worth $9.99 at best. C'mon guys!! Macs are great-- make the mouse great too!!! You know you could!!

    Okay mouse, but with problems.

The mouse is easy to get used to; right clicking just involves slightly lifting your left finger off the mouse.
However, the scroll ball stops working every month so you'll need to get it rolling right again by putting some water on the ball and rolling it around a little.
When your hand has lots of static on it, the side buttons start clicking by themselves. Put your hands on a flat metal surface to discharge the static and stop the side buttons from clicking themselves.

    Might Mouse lag

My personal comment on this Might Mouse is lag and no responsive as compared to Logitech or Microsoft mouse. I would era Apple to redesign the Mighty Mouse to improve on the responsiveness of the mouse!

Mouse does not scroll after 2 months

I bought this new computer and the mouse was ok but not the keyboard, so I got a replacement of mouse and keyboard. Almost two months later the mouse does not scroll up or down. I cleaned and did all I could but it is just badly designed mac product. I am going to send this one back and get a new mouse but I am disappointed.

    If It Only Kept Working

I'm on my second Mighty Mouse and I find it more fragile then mighty. I really like this mouse when it works. The only problem is the trackball/pea starts getting problematic within weeks. It just stops scrolling. You can't get in there to clean it, so I really have no idea of what you can do to fix it.

I've given it one star because it stops working. If they fixed that I'd go easily to 4 stars.

    Scroll ball frustrates

The Apple Mighty Mouse would be an O.K. mouse if not for that scroll ball. It took some getting used to the shell without actual buttons to press. Also, the side buttons sometimes engage when just moving the mouse around and not intending their use. When getting that right it was a good experience, then the scroll ball started to fail in one direction or another. It would right itself with some working the ball. Now nothing I do will correct it, including Apple's cleaning instructions. When I bought a second Mac I figured I would get the "obligatory" Mighty Mouse. Maybe it was just the one mouse, I thought. Wrong ! After having trouble with the second mouse and seeing what trouble others have by Googling it I will never get that darned thing again. Apple designs such wonderful items except for this.

I highly recommend just getting a different mouse to start with.

Mighty Mouse scroll ball problem is an easy fix....great mouse, I love it!

It happened to me once and I thought it was broken, but suddenly I found a simple solution:
Pick up a clean blank sheet of paper
Put the Apple Mighty Mouse upside down
Roll the trackball on the paper, in all directions, till it starts to work, fixes it instantly!

A good product but not without flaws.

I own both a wireless and wired version of the mighty mouse and while I enjoy using both the wired version does seem to suffer from more issues than it's Bluetooth brother (or sister).

I'm not a fan of the 'force-sensing' buttons on the side. They seem to be un-reactive unless you really give them some stick when you want to use them yet very easy to accidentally press when you're dragging and dropping something. This is possibly down to my technique owning to having not bothered with mice with buttons other than the usual two (or three) before.

The scroll-ball is a great improvement on usual scroll-wheels however it can easly get clogged up with dirt. I have only had this problem but I have managed to clean this out before and it then works again perfectly.

All in all a very good mouse but, given that the wireless version isn't a great deal more expensive, over priced.
