MAKE IT WIRELESS AND I WILL GIVE IT 5 STARS

It's really a 3 1/2 but we cant give half stars and performance wise it should have 5★★★★★
I have a barrage of Macs and I have used many mice in my time but find this one to be the best mouse I have ever used. It is accurate, sensitive but best of all it is programmable which means I can make it do what I want it to do. Each pressure point is programmable so the flexibility of the mouse is without equal. It is also very very comfortable and very light UNLIKE the MAGIC MOUSE with its sharp edges and very weighty structure.

For the few negative people's comments I have seen on the product, try cleaning the ball occasionally or washing your hands before you put the grubby oily things on the mouse. I have 3 of these now with a 4th ordered today with my new 27" iMac and I have not had a single problem with any of them. Like ANY sensitive electronic equipment, it requires some maintenance but it is minimal. Stop being lazy.

For the cleaner members of the Mac clan, if you have any performance issues simply unplug the mouse, turn it upside down and roll it over a screen clean wipe or similar, (placed on your mouse pad or a soft cloth) then over a paper towel or tissue (non impregnated) to dry it off and remove any residual alcohol.

Terrible - scrolls only one way

Depending on the settings, it just scrolls up or down - NOT BOTH ! The left / right scroll works fine. Feel kind of cheated since you pay a premium for quality products from Apple.

Scrollwheel has conked out on every Apple mouse I've used.

Apple has problems designing their mice. Get a Logitech.

Why is the cable so short?

Why would you design the mouse with such a short cable when you've also designed the previous Macbook Pro with all the usb ports on the left hand side? really apple, that's your definition of a great design?

Great mouse but cable too short

I love this mouse, have had it for years without any problems whatsoever -- but doesn't Apple know that some of us use desktop computers with pull-out drawers?

In order to use it with the standard cord I had too have the monitor much to close, and I suffered like this until I ordered a USB cable extension. (Am I the only person who didn't know such extensions existed?)

    Scroll wheel never works properly

Nice design, but i've had to replace the mouse 4 times over a two year period. Why? The scroll wheel stops working after a couple of months, due the the poor design of the small ball. I am a clean person, do not use food, or have dirty hands when using keyboard/mouse, yet even the smallest amount of natural accumulated dirt will render the scroll wheel inoperable.

It's all about that scrolling ball

The Good: The rest of the functionality of this mouse is great. Meets all the needs that a designer could ask for. Have been using it for years now.

Like any mouse with a scrolling ball, it gets dirty. That's not the issue, the issue is finding a way to clean it. I had to pry mine open with a letter opener, unfasten two electrical strips, three screws and a clip that holds the ball down. If it wasn't for the spare mouse (one that had the same issue before) I wouldn't have a mouse right now.

    Beautiful but useless

This mouse has a chronic problem of dirt clogging the scroll ball - there are plenty of reports on the Internet about this poor design problem. While Apple provides official cleaning instructions, they do not work well. Additionally, the mouse cannot be opened to clean without breaking it, since the body is glued together. As beautiful and elegant as it is, this mouse will become dysfunctional within a few months.

See the 12/28/12 Mr. Clean magic eraser solution - it works

I looked at this suggestion from 12/28/12 even after I purchased a Rocksoul laser mouse for my Imac; it worked~
First, after using a magic eraser back and forth, it worked slightly better than not at all. But then, I read the whole review - the part about rolling the mouse scroll button back and forth vigorously over a clean piece paper. The dirt inside the mouse was wiped off on the clean piece of paper. I did this several times and now the mouse works just fine. Great solution!

I was irritated by this malfunction too, but I have to admit, after seeing what came off on that paper, that is makes sense that dirt and oils will effect the functioning of this - and any other - scroll button mouse.

Mr. Clean fixed my bad mouse

My roll ball has not worked for months. I was frustrated and was gonna buy a Logitech since this is my third Mac mouse that has developed the same problem. I use a slightly damp Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Many rolls of the ball on the magic eraser with slight down pressure on the ball and it started to work. I then rolled it vigorously on a clean piece of paper, then the eraser then the paper again. It now once again works like new.

I love the mouse when it works and hate it when it doesn't, so I gave it a pretty low rating, but maybe you can fix yours as well and the rating might increase.

    Great mouse, but...

This is a great mouse and I love using it. The scroll ball is really natural way to scroll through web pages and documents, BUT you will have to maintain it. It frequently collects dusk and debris as well as oil from your fingers. Best way to keep it working is to use some isopropyl alcohol and work the scroll ball. The other thing is that Apple wants $49, which seems rather steep to me. I don't remember paying that much for it 3 yrs ago.

    Disappointed Apple Product

Worst mouse ever. Scroll ball stops working after several months. It literally is the worst thing that Apple has ever created.

Nice mouse but – two big buts

Generally a nice mouse to use but just when you're getting used to the luxury of the scroll-ball after years with classic Apple single-button mice, that's when it starts clogging and you're back to square 1.
Also agree with those who've said the cable is too short.

    Not worth the money

Have had one of those for about two years. Worked fine for a while, then the scrolling began to behave erratically (down was OK, up was not). Found some tips on how to clean it (using alcohol, white paper,...). That worked for a while, but eventually, I had to clean it every week or so. Recently, the right-click began to show signs of weakness as well, and today... well, the mouse simply stopped working altogether, with the thing getting confused between right-click, scrolling and left-click. Very disappointing from Apple, especially after I had to buy a new power adapter for a McBookAir not even 2 years old! I have an iMac, 2 McBook Air, 1 mini, one iPod, but seriously, I will think twice before buying Apple again next time.

    clean the button on mouse

I use isopropyl alcohol (basic first aid alcohol 70% solution) and a clean cloth that does not shed lint. Soak the cloth in the alcohol and work it into the button. Keep pressing and moving the button until the alcohol starts cleaning away the grease. This may take a while, but I have found that it's very effective at getting the button to move and scroll again.

    Like it.

I've had the mouse for a long time now (about 3 months) and it works just fine. I like it because it is more comfortable to my hand than the magic mouse. I just think its a little pricey for a wired mouse.

    poor design

I have had 3 of these mice and they all suffered the same problem. The tiny ball gets dirty and stops working. I tried to clean one of them properly but I ended up breaking it. Do not buy, save yourself some grief.

    Super Slow Tracking

I adjusted the tracking speed in system preferences to the fastest speed, and STILL this mouse requires about 4 square feet of physical desktop space to move the cursor an inch or two. I don't understand this.

    CORD TOO SHORT

The cord is far too short so now the wire attaching to the screen is coming apart. If only the wireless keyboard had a socket on it (like the non-wireless keyboard!) so we could attach the extremely short mouse wire to it, then I wouldn't be writing this negative review. Can someone please lengthen the cord to the mouse or add a socket to the wireless keyboard?? Very simple advice, very effective and free of charge.

    Useless

Wont work on a standard surface (apple magic mouse and other mouses do), cord is ridiculously short and its pricey. Bad combination.
