Great mouse, 'broken' scroll wheel easily fixable...

    Fantastic mouse ...
Just like to thank whoever put the fix up for the unresponsive scroll ball involving rolling the mouse around upside down on a bit of paper ... all the dust etc. comes out and hey presto it's good again!:)

    good concept but...

this mouse good for those of you that only use the left click function on your mac, but if your like me and don't like to reach for the keyboard you will set it up for left and right click... the problem i found was that only half of the time you clicked the mouse would click the right button. on top of that the trackball got cloged full of dirt and there is no way i know of how to clean it. in my opinion getting a cheap 10-20 dollar mouse is a better investment. it is a good probuct... but just not the one i'm looking for.

Quite repelling input device in a competitive IT accessories space

I believe apple strongly needs to re-think about discontinuing this range of mice and initiate laser co-ordination system underneath mighty mouse. As an IT reviewer, I find it quite lackadaisical for Apple to even offer this PS/2 equivalent input device beside their revolutionary consumer electronics portfolio which contains iPod Touch and iPhone. Have I mentioned anything erroneous? :-)

The track ball is absolute garbage and you can't open it up to clean it once it gets its very delicate parts touched. imagine that... actually touching your mouse. wow. terrible design flaws throughout- shame too since for the five months that it worked I actually liked it alot.

    worse mouse ever

This mouse might be the worse mouse ive ever bought. At first when I got the mouse which i purchased from Best Buy it worked great. but after 1 days use it went bad on me just started clicking every second and got very annoying so i returned that one. they let me just swap mouse out and my next one which i still have worked up til now. It doesn't glide nicely and just will click without me even touch the mouse its very annoying. if apple will give me my money back ill take it.

Mouse fine for just under a year, then (yawn!) scroll decides it doesn't want to go down any more. Just tried some of the cleaning tips mentioned in other reviews, now it wont scroll up either! Will not be replacing with an Apple product. Redesign of this simple problem way overdue, come on Jobs!

    Hand Cramps!!!!

I don't like this mouse. It makes my hand sore and gives my hand cramps. I like the Microsoft intellimouse explorer. It looks cooler, and feels more comfortable.

A great device, but not if you have a large desk!

The mouse works just fine and the programmable features are a bonus. Great if you're used to the old version.

I disagree with the complaints about the scroll ball becoming clogged, hasn't happened to me and I can't see how it would unless the environment is dirty.

My only concern (and hence four out of five stars) is the length of the cable. It's short; really short. Unless your Mac's right next to you on the desk you'll struggle without an extension cable. And if you're a stickler for things being 'just right', an Apple extension will set you back a reasonable amount even on eBay.

Mighty Mouse, the All Mighty and all not so Mighty

This is certainly a great mouse and I think eveyone should love it, except most people can't accept the scroll ball problem. I agree with that too but if it get dirty just clean, and I think that we shouldn't be using our computer with sirty hand right, right? Other than that proplem I think the feature is very great, work well with Window too, and it just feel great. Most of you'll like the feeling of its scroll ball, and the left and right sensor click. IBut I would also imagine Apple to really fix the scrool ball proplem and lower the price, at least by a little. Despite the proplem, go to the Apple Retail Store, test it out, certainly should buy one for either PC or Mac. This is recomend from me, a programmer.

Apple product designers please read this!

I love this mouse. However, I'm anticipating problems with the poorly designed (but brilliant while it's working!) scroll wheel. The ball could be slightly bigger for easy of use (or replaced with another technology?)

Another problem I've had which doesn't get much mention in other reviews is the overly sensitive buttons on top. I couldn't figure out how to right click for a while until I realised that the tiny pressure of my index finger was causing a left click even though I was only pressing down on the right side! I like to rest the weight of my fingers on the mouse and not need to lift my other finger. I had a similar problem when trying to use the side buttons, if I was touching anywhere else it sometimes didn't work.

The mouse squeaks when I click. (sounds funny, but disturbing in a quiet environment)

Also I have large hands and although it is reasonably comfortable, I'd like to see an optional larger version. This would also make it easier to use all the buttons.

As it is, I would not recommend this product to anyone. No one wants to pay top dollar for a product that could be great if it actually worked the way it was intended to and was reliable.

Please redesign this otherwise brilliant product.

    Good but gets dirty easily

Works well but gets dirt on it real quick and also the scroll stops working because of dirt and stuff in it but with a couple of wipes its good as new

    Only amazing when it works

I've had one since 2005. Loved it when I got it. Then the trackball wouldn't scroll up nor right. So I gave it a clean, which helped for a while. A couple of weeks later, it started to do the same thing. After alot of cleaning/ball rubbing, finally managed to get it working again although not as good as new. Sure enough a month later, same problem. This time, however, cleaning/ball rubbing didn't get it working again. So I pulled it all apart, totally cleaned the interior ball housing, superglued it back together. and it worked fine... It's not possible to clean it properly without opening it up, which is a shame. I love apple products, but this one needs a rethink.

I am a new MAC user so this mouse is different to me. I had to setup the preferences to make it feel right.

Over it is a nice mouse.

    I LOVE this mouse!

So I have had the Mighty Mouse for nearly 3 years w/o so much as a hiccup w/the scrolling. If it got "stuck", a little tap on the desk and it would be back to normal. The other day, it just wouldn't scroll down no matter what I did. It still scrolled up, left, and right. I asked for a new one (this is at work) and in the instruction manual it mentioned cleaning the scroll wheels by turning it upside down and moving the wheel vigorously w/a lint-free cloth. I thought I'd try it on the old one, and voila.. it's good as new again! Now I have two that work perfectly. I love that I can scroll in any direction and hate having to go to another mouse that only allows vertical scrolling. I highly recommend this to anyone who uses programs that require lots of scrolling - in any direction!

    Save your money

Believe the other reviews, the scroll ball on this mouse does not last long. I've had my Mighty Mouse for 3 months and it will scroll up but not down, even after several feverish cleaning sessions.

I just plugged my old Logitech MX500 mouse in to the Mac keyboard and it works exactly as it did on my PC, scrolls up and down, back and forward buttons right above your thumb (much easier than the back squeeze I had programmed on the Mighty Mouse) and due to its larger size you can rest your hand on it comfortably.

    Good mouse, bad scroll ball.

Overall, I love the Mighty Mouse; as many have noted, however, the scroll ball is far too large a vulnerability in an otherwise fine product. The oils from your finger will eventually cause the ball to cease functioning properly, and eventually even the hardiest cleaning simply will not fix it.

My suggestion to Apple: put that touch technology to use here and give us a touch-sensitive "ball" that doesn't actually physically move. The Mighty Mouse already uses touch sensing for its configurable "buttons", a touch sensing, virtualized scroll "ball" is simply a logical step forward.

    Just broke.

Well I have had my iMac for about a year now. And the mouse came with the computer. But the mouse finally broke. It didn't come as a shock because the reviews that I read said that the scroller on the mouse would become unresponsive. But anyway, I would think that a mouse could last longer than just one year. That is why I gave it a 3 out of 5. But I got a lot of use out of this mouse so it is not a terrible product. Just expect it to last about a year or so.

The Mighty Mouse not so mighty

After four months mighty mouse is not working as it should. I'm a graphic designer and I need a scroll bar that works right. After four months my scroll bar will only go up! There's no way to clean it or open the optical mouse. It's frustrating to have a mouse with one way scrolling.
