About a year now and it still works great

Despite all the reviews here that say that this mouse has so many problems, I have used this mouse for over 8 hours a day, every weekday for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. I am surprised to hear other reviews that rate it so poorly. The scroll ball is an excellent concept and I'm sure Apple will continually improve upon it.

    o.k. but not great

Asides from the issues affecting the tracker ball, the cord is too short. I like to place a tracking surface on my lap when I lounge & surf, no can do with this mouse, 12 inches of cord, that is it. Personally I think it was designed this way so people shell out the money for a wireless version. Unfortunately for Apple I have a great wireless mouse from Logitech that is 8 years old and still works like a charm and I prefer the old button layout.

    I expected better from Apple.

    Touch sensitive buttons

Forget about the scroll ball packing in. The actual clicking is the problem for me. Touch sensitive areas, whilst a great technology and perfect for the aesthetics of the mouse, are a nuisance. If you like to use right-click, then you are forced to remove your left finger from the mouse so it doesn't default left-click. This might not sound like an issue, but I like to rest my hand on the mouse, and I don't like to have my fingers in the air poised and waiting for which sided of the touch pad I will be clicking on.

Also the side buttons are just irritating. The mouse has gone haywire a couple of times now, bringing up spaces/dashboard/expose at inconvenient times.

What's wrong with a simply two button mouse with a decent scroll wheel?

While you're at it, put a forward and back button too. Disappointed.

Half the time I click on the right button and it really clicks on the left! ARRHH!! And if I want to click on both left and right at the same time it doesn't work!

    Absolute Great Concept but...

Absolute Great Concept but it falls immediately on practicality...

it needs weekly Scroll cleaning, otherwise it will stuck!

this is the first time I've experienced a mouse that requires cleaning (I mean for crying out loud who has the time!)

    KEEP IT CLEAN...

YOUR ARE ALL RIGHT ABOUT THE SCROLL BALL GETTING DIRTY AND STUCK...ALCOHOL DOES THE TRICK...BUT YOU WHATS BEST...KEEPING YOUR HANDS CLEAN...I'VE HAD MINE FOR 1.5 YEARS AND IT ONLY GOT STUCK ONCE, I'M GUESSING YOUR OLD TRACK BALL MODEL MOUSE GOT STUCK MORE THAN THAT...ANYWAY, TRY TO FIND A BETTER PRODUCT FOR A BETTER PRICE AND THEN WE CAN TALK...I GAVE IT FOUR STARS BEACAUSE THE CONTINUOUS SURFACE LENDS ITSELF TO LEFT CLICKIN WHEN YOU WANT RIGHT CLICK IF YOU HAVE BOTH FINGERS ON IT, AND THE SIDE BUTTONS ARE TOO SENSITIVE...BUT HEY INNOVATION HAS ITS PRICE...LIVE WITH IT OR GET A LOGITECH...OH AND STOP PICKING YOUR NOSE AT WORK, NO WONDER IT GETS DIRTY SO FAST.

    Stickie Mouse

I found the same problem with the scroll ball. I tried the canned air first before taking it apart, and it seemed to work. I will keep using it, until it sticks again and keeps me from scrolling up/down, left/right. Just direct the spray nozzel of the canned air, or air hose from compressor(low psi) and it dislodged whatever was jamming the ball.

    Middle mouse button to sensitive

Hi, i dont like this mouse, the middle button is impossible to clic it whit out moving the track bal, so it imposible to work with that in a 3D software because it will alway zoom instead of panning or rotating the geometry. Vary bad because with bootcamp now with finally have acces to all the 3d soft as Rhino, Solidwork, Catia, Studiotool, 3DS...

    A bit disappointed....

Those of you who own or use a macbook with this mouse will instantly understand my frustration (those who are right handed). The mouse usb cable is WAY TOO SHORT because the only usb ports are on the back left side of the macbook. I suppose this is fine for left handed people or those who can use both hands for functions. Two demerits...one for the macbook not having usb connections on the right side and the other for mighty mouse not having a decent length usb plug. Shame on you mac...

I really wanted it to work...

The scroll nub is terrible. I work on my computer 8 hours a day & the scroll lasted all of 2 months. At first it wouldn't scroll up, now it won't scroll down. Its also become hyper sensitive on its side and had to go into the control panel to shut those buttons off so I didn't get bumped into expose over and over again. I'm a lifetime mac user, but this product is horrible.

It's not as bad as it's made out to be!

After using this for a couple months now, I decided to throw in my two cents.
I have several mice I use regularly, so this doesn't always get used 10 hours a day. I also am fairly obsessed with hygiene, so I am not surprised it hasn't clogged yet. That being said, I can see how this could happen, given the design. Time will tell.
Functionally, I have my likes and dislikes. One, it isn't ergonomic, but it is supposedly stylish. It's plastic, and doesn't feel attractive in hand. The size is a bit large for my hands, this wouldn't be so bad if it was ergonomic. I am also wishing I had got the wireless version, but didn't want to commit.
I can't find any other gripes, so here are some positives. The scroll wheel, though small, works great for me. I like how finely it can be controlled or accelerated rapidly. Having the ability to scroll right and left is also indispensable. The squeeze buttons work, but are better used infrequently. Finally, the hotly debated touch sensitive top shell. I have discovered it can actually be used just like the old one button mouse with both fingers on the top. What it can't do is right click, but all you have to do is just barely lift your left finger. It is not nearly as annoying as it is made out to be.
In conclusion, I enjoy using this mouse most of the time. However, I am going to add a blue tooth mouse to my collection. And it isn't going to be a might mouse or a logitech. Ultimately, the size and lack of ergonomics are requiring me to make this a part time use device. I enjoy using it, but it's not great. If my scroll ball clogs, I will only drop my rating one star. If your computer came with this that's fine, but if you are shopping for a mouse at least get the wireless version.

    Great features, but won't last

I think Apple may be setting itself up for a customer satisfaction reckoning. New MacBook power blocks fail & light on fire sometimes, and this mouse -- with some really great features -- doesn't last. I got one with my iMac in June '07, and by the end of the year the track ball would periodically stop scrolling. If I picked at it enough it would work again, and now it's failed...again.

I think Apple's QA & QC is failing these days...maybe that's what happens when you seem like you're the "it" thing...that the thing is more important than the people who buy it. Wrongo, Steve.

    Don't bother

Great design rubbish to use. The little ball on top never worked properly from day one. Have just lost a mornings work due to the ball packing up again. Now the mighty mouse is not so mighty as it is in bits (short temper and a lump of granite). Perhaps Apple could learn something from Microsoft.

    Perfect little mouse

This is a great and intuitive mouse for beginners and opened minded advanced users. I've used a PC my whole life (both Linux & Windows) and I think I like this design better.

It's also really easy for my children to use because there is no button per se.

    Totally Unreliable!

Looks great, and works fine...for a short while. I'm on my third one (all replaced under warranty) and this one is already giving me problems. The problem has been the same with all of them: After a (sometimes very short) while, the scroll ball stops working in the "up" direction. They all worked fine in the down, left and right directions, but going up was a hit or miss proposition. I cleaned the ball and tried all of the other tricks to get them working in all directions to no avail. I know of several other owners with the exact same problem. It is beyond belief that a company like Apple can't get something as simple a mouse right!

A wonderful mouse - don't believe all of the reviews!

I have owned this mouse for 3 years and I am just now experiencing what several of the reviewers said happened to them after a few months-the mouse roller stopped rolling up and down. I absolutely love this mouse. I hate track pads and love all of the features - especially the 360 degree scrolling. I came to the site to buy another one. I read the reviews and learned I could clean the roller ball! I used a tissue and rubbing alcohol - it fixed the problem. Thanks to the reviewer that shared this information. Sorry Apple! I don't need to order another Mighty Mouse!

    An All-Around Disappointment

This is perhaps the worst mouse I have ever owned and a huge disappointment coming from a company with Apple's reputation for design and innovation. The mouse worked well for about three months, then the scroll ball started slipping right around the warranty's expiration. Apple's suggested solution worked a few times, but then it didn't... and there's no way to clean the ball without disassembling the mouse - which is a very risky procedure. The side buttons are difficult to use and, along with the scroll button, are too easy to trigger accidentally. A real pain. So, I've used the mouse for nearly a year without the ball and decided it was time to get a real, functioning mouse. My advice: avoid this mouse at all costs.
