    The scroll ball will fail.

I'm on my second Mighty Mouse in a little over two years and am giving up on them. The scroll wheel inevitably fails because of dirt. I keep cleaning it according to Apple's instructions but that either makes it work for a day or two or not at all. I love the look of it and the multi-buttons are great, but the scroll ball is completely unreliable.

    way to fix your mouse

Ok guys listen up first of all I think this is an all around decent mouse. I've had it for four and a half months and it done fine. If you r having a problem fixing your scroll ball do this-clean the roller ball on the top with alcohol wipes or a q-tip soaked in alcohol. that should fix it. If it doesn't fix it (in the unlikely circumstance that it doesn't) you can always have it taken to the apple store and be fixed.(oh and i really think that this mouse is four stars not three)

    The Disposable Mouse

Alright, as I type this, I have only had the mouse in my possession for three days. Many problems plague it.

    1. The side buttons respond haphazardly every once in a while - when I don't click them! As for when I try to click them: nothing happens.

    2. The scrollball is filled with dust and has stopped working.

    3. I had to revert to single button mode because the scrollball had a malfunction and would only open the dashboard, even if I was clicking the real buttons.

I've had a $15 optical mouse, just the basics, for about two years now, and it performs much better than this one. What's more, you can't even fix it - it's sealed shut.

So quite honestly, don't waste your money. It's not worth it.

    Love it but...

I'm on my second one because the scrolling ball stops working after awhile. The first one was on warranty and I've only had this one a few months. It doesn't appear to be dirty. It's too bad because the little ball is my favorite part.

    "mighty" mouse

The little ball stopped working. I got a new one under warrenty. It stopped working. Not easy to clean the little ball. I'm giving it one start because it looks nice even if it is useless.

    Dirty ball

It looks great in the beginning. A bit stupid that the system default settings put a left click as default both for left and right click. A friend of mine to whom I advised the mouse was frustrated that he couldn't "right click", unless I explained him he had to go to the preferences to do change the settings. That's a minor detail.

The worst part is the scroll ball. It's fantastic when it's new, but after a while the scrolling becomes unreliabe, probably through normal dirt. Even following the Apple instructions to clean it, this only helps for a couple of days. I use it in a living room with normal clean hands, not in a mecanic's work shop full of grease and oil.

    The Danger of Online Reviews

I am really surprised that the Mighty Mouse is rated SO low. Could it be that Joe Public doesn't know how to use a mouse? Anyway the Mighty Mouse is wonderful, even if you are a gamer! If you have a problem with how the buttons are configured, just go into settings and reconfigure them and everything will be great. I have played World of Warcraft with this mouse and edited video and sound as well as everyday surfing etc. WONDERFUL. The only reason I didn't get the Mighty Mouse sooner is because of the low rating from other consumers. Don't let the three stars stop you from buying this great Apple Product.

Love it, if only a little troublesome...

I love it. It doesn't clog with dirt like the old roller ball mouses. The buttons work well. The only problem is the scroller. It gets clogged but only if it is used a long time in a dusty area or used with dirty or wet hands. All in all, a great product and very much worth getting if you have a laptop and get annoyed with the stupid pad. A 4.5 rating.

    Okay, but not great

I got a mighty mouse with my new imac, looking at it out of the box it's very cool and appears to have cool features. Here are the ups and the downs -

    Ups
    - Looks great
    - matches other apple gear
    - scroll ball nice to use (though see below)

    Downs
    - Cord is way too short. It won't even reach across my desk, which is not all that wide. I've had to pull the imac in the be able to reach the mouse.
    - the scroll ball went screwy within my first week of using it.
    - way too sensitive - I ended up with it continuously clicking this morning over in a corner, and my hot corners appear suddenly if I even nudge the mouse slightly in the wrong direction

Overall, there are much better mice out there, I wouldn't buy this mouse and i'm getting a different mouse to use with my imac - one that the cord reaches all the way across my desk....

Loved it -- for 15 minutes. Now it gathers dust.

It's sleek, with horizontal scroll, and five buttons. But two fatal flaws made me trade it in for my old Logitech.

    1. The Right Click doesn't work unless you lift up your other fingers. After a while, this gets very uncomfortable. As a former classical pianist, I have excellent posture and hand position, so can be on my computer for 14 hours a day without any strain. This is the first mouse in 20 years to give me a sore wrist.
    2. The scroll ball is unreliable. It would sometimes quit working in a single direction, while the other three directions would be fine.

    excellent!

This is a pretty good piece of hardware! feels comfortable with my hand, its very responsive, and the scroll ball has yet to fail me!

I don't know what all these people are mad about. The mouse is awesome! But it is kind of annoying to click the right button and for those of us that play WoW and such, which is why it gets a 4 instead of a 5.

    Apple has raised the bar

I was at first skeptical of apple mouses I've used the older ones at collage and found that the lack of right click annoyed me. but after windows trouble and the confusing amount of vista OS's to choose from, i took the big step of getting a mac mini and sleek new keyboard (which is brill as well) i found that other mouses looked out of place. i got this out of praise from other apple users and Im so glad i took the plunge right click would have been great but the extra functions that allow you to open windows, minimize programs just makes it a fantastic mouse oh and look at the red laser on your desk i think its meant to resemble a mouse nice touch apple.

    Cord

Ok great idea with the 5 Buttons but the cord is too short and the right click has too small of a surface area. I would say 3.5 if i could.

Listen to what everyone else is saying PLEASE!!

This mouse truly isn't worth the money
so please don't waste yours! If you've
gotten the new iMac you will understand
what everyone is saying after a few months
of using the mouse. The scroll is extremely
unreliable. At first the ball won't go down or up
so you'll go to support and watch this video
on turning the thing upside down and
cleaning it with a rag and what not. It will
work at first. Then it'll happen again and
again till it just gives out on you. If you're
    thinking of purchasing one, DON'T!!
If you got one with your MAC use till its done
    and get a new one...

Should've spent the money on a ham

I demo'd this mouse in an Apple store in the Sydney CBD and I loved it. So I bought one. When I took it home, I was like "Yes, it looks so sexy" but only after 20 days of using it. I have realised this mouse was a ripoff. For example when you play Halo, you need your whole hand on the mouse and the two fingers in front. When you try to left click, guess what? It right clicks. Making me throw a grenade and run into it. Definitely do not buy this. You are better off spending this money on a ham or a pack of smokes.

Not the greatest mouse I've used...

This mouse is... okay, at best. The tracking is smooth, the mouse fits comfortably in my hand, quick and painless to set up. A couple of issues that I have with it are the scroll ball, the "right" click and the squeeze feature. First, the scroll ball can become gummed up over time, even if you have reasonably clean hands. Second, the right-click is not programmed by default. You have to turn that on yourself. Third, the squeeze function I find sometimes gets in the way, especially when you have to reposition the mouse, and accidentally activate the squeeze function. Even during normal use, that can become annoying, so I turn that feature off. I find Apple's trackpads easier to use than this mouse.

    Waste of money . . .

The scroll wheel failed several months after I started using it. I was persuaded by the folks at Apple to purchase another. I won't make that mistake again. The new mouse also quit working after several months of use. I've tried all the remedies to revive it and it continues to fail. It might be fine for casual use but it can't stand up to the rigors of Photoshop editing.

    The Cord issue

can some folks tell me why the mighty mouse cord is only 18 inches long? My iBook is 12 inches and the USB plugs are at the left side of the laptop, so I'm right handed and the cord is not long enough for doing the job. I got the mouse from eBay (are they fake?). Thanks from Brooklyn
