    great mouse, no problems

i got the mighty mouse when i purchased my mac pro well over a year ago and it's still working great. i haven't experienced any of the sticking of the scroll ball that others mention and the buttons all continue to function as they're supposed to. no complaints here, i think it's a great product.

    The scroll ball issue

No Matter how clean you keep it.. scroll ball will become dysfunctional over a period of time and it's cleaning is tough. This is the biggest turn - off in this product. Otherwise performance and feel of the mice is great. Doesn't feel bulky in hand. Another thing is we could have little bit longer wire.

    Achilles scroll wheel...

Only around 1-2 months before it began to get sticky. Never experienced such bad performance from such an expensive mouse. Really needs improvement to be brought up to Apple's usual standard.

    Ball breaks really fast!!

Nice piece of technology, except for the fact that the scrolling ball does not last much. Only 6 weeks for me! Worse is the fact that Mac built it in such a way that you can not clean the scrolling ball's sensors located inside. If you open the mouse, you will never be able to close it again in a simple way, as you can do with any other mouse. So, it seems that it is meant to break so you buy another one, and another one, and so on........

Scroll ball breaks -- but is easy to fix

Thank goodness for reviews. I've LOVED this mouse for two years running and just had the scroll ball feature stop working. Came here thinking of buying a new one and found out how to fix it from another reviewer -- many thanks! Thought I'd reiterate the quick fix that they sent out: "To fix this, turn it upside down and place the mouse on its wheel. roll it around in every direction. This corrects the problem." It works. Check it out before you buy a new mouse!

READ THIS if scrollwheel not working

OK, granted, there is a flaw in the design of this mouse, but I bet 90% of mice problems can be solved like this:

    1. unplug the mouse from the keyboard
    2. turn it upside down
    3. roll the scrollwheel in all directions on a blank (clean) piece of paper, in all directions, for 60 seconds
    4. re-attach

bingo! works every time. this is a good mouse in both OS X and Windows, I have used it for gaming and is excellent for browsing large webpages or large documents, with its 360 degree scrollwheel. although at times i want to get away from the mouse/keyboard combo (it is 2008 now, after all), at least this Mighty Mouse lessens the pain somewhat.

    Mighty Mouse

    Well what can I say!!!!!!
I am on my third mouse and the main problem still seems to be that after about 8 months the scroll wheel will stop working. Apart from this it is a very good product but ultimately Apple can't expect people to keep spending money on a flawed product that WILL break down

    Defective design

I have lost track of the number of times that I have replaced this mouse under warranty. The mouse fails in the same way every time! The scroll wheel stops scrolling up and later stops having secondary button function.

    keeps breaking!

gotta say folks -- i like apple products but this one seems no good, always that middle mouse button, so delicate! i've ordered two of them and both of them broke -- no more.

    This mouse is underrated!

I LOVE this mouse! Everyone's complaining about how it stops working... I haven't had any problem with it so far! It is a sleek and sexy mouse that has four buttons, a GREAT feature when it comes to Expose; and Dashboard. I LOVE this mouse and I look forward to going wireless!

Great Design, Great Usability, GREAT PRODUCT!!!

After having the mouse for a week, I am thoroughly satisfied. Its sleek, white case looks like a single button mouse, but is in fact a stylish double button. It uses touch-sensitive technology to distinguish between left and right clicking. As for the people that complain about having to lift your finger from the left side to right click, I do this normally, so it really isn't an issue. Also, as for the trackball issue, I have seen no problems. As I have seen in other places, washing hands normally throughout the day and operating environment will make a difference in keeping it clean. One last thing, when I first got it I thought the click was way too stiff, but since having it for 7 days, and using it for 7 days, it has become a little more broken in, and is great now. Overall, this is a fantastic mouse, I wouldn't have it any other way!

Innovative design and concept for a mouse

This mouse, which came with my iMac, took a while to get the hang of. I like the versatility of the mouse. Great mouse to come standard with the computer.
I really like the function of scroll button, much better than the typical scroll wheel. Even though the scroll button can be sensitive and appear to malfunction by only scrolling in one direction, it is very simple to "fix."
I am considering purchasing the bluetooth Mighty Mouse.

Dead after 24 days, bad for gaming.

Hi, having bought a lovely new iMac, and it working fairly well for almost a month, i woke up on new years day to check my emails, and found my Mighty Mouse had totally died; fortunately AppleCare were able to have it replaced, and i am awaiting the new one.

the mouse its self, seemed to be good, it was poor for windows gaming, because the right click was pretty difficult to find... often pressing the right side of the mouse still resulted in a left click being registered.

In Mac, however this mouse was truly fantastic, the squeeze feature was really useful, as was having a ball to scroll around documents, especially for pictures.

If Apple sorted out reliability of this mouse, and made that right click just a little better, i might recommend it!

    not worth the money

This mouse is the worst I've ever used. We've had it for less than 6 months, and the scroll button has continually had problems with working but would ultimately function again.
Now it won't work at all, and so we need to replace it. Also, it is over-sensitive and many times does things on it's own (like the right click or the buttons on the side will engage without us trying)
Don't waste your money. Not worth it!

    Apple Cares

Having read many reviews slating the scrollball for clogging with dirt quickly, I braced myself for the worst this morning when I bought mine. Opening the box, the first thing I see is a sheet printed separately from the manual which reads: ATTENTION - YOU MAY NEED TO CLEAN YOUR MIGHTY MOUSE FROM TIME TO TIME. I assume this is Apple acknowledging customer complaints, and doing the cheapest thing possible.

On another note, my first impression of the feel of the mouse isn't as brilliant as i'd hoped. The squeeze buttons ruin the ergonomic feel slightly, and the USB cable barely reaches around the back of my macbook - Not a problem if you are left handed.

But you wouldn't care about its problems- you (alike I) only bought this for that little apple sat proud atop it. End of the day, it's a mouse and I can only hope it lasts long enough to justify the money I spent on it.

I know I'm just adding to the list but...

    Scroll ball!

It's a great idea, don't get me wrong! But just because the theory works, it doesn't mean it does in practice. I'm already on my second and the scroll ball on that has stopped working too.

If the troublesome scroll ball was just updated to a touch sensitive pad or something, maybe Apple wouldn't spend so much on replacements for these things?

Apart from the scroll ball, this is a lovely mouse - even if it isn't that ergonomic. I love the 4 buttons and every-time I have to use a boring old PC mouse, I keep finding myself squeezing the sides... but really, the scroll ball lets this down (And the way it gets very filthy very quickly).

Maybe Macworld in the next few weeks will give us an answer to our problems? My MightyMouse has been the only thing wrong with my new Mac, really... and I don't want it to spoil the way my friends and family think of Macs and Apple when they come to use my iMac and find they can't scroll because the scroll ball is broken... because that way, they'll never be convinced to leave their PCs!

    Superb mouse

The Mighty Mouse is still one of the best mice I have ever used. The scroll wheel has stopped working on mine a couple of times, but a quick clean with some baby wipes always gets it going again. I find baby wipes will clean most parts of a computer easily, including the mouse cable which can tend to get dirty after a while.

    It works

The first mouse I received came w/ my iMac. After awhile, the cord was threading away ( where it connects w/ the mouse). Called Apple, got a new one, it works great and it has been a year. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the mouse wheel/ball. Sometimes it doesn't work. To fix this, turn it upside down and place the mouse on its wheel. roll it around in every direction. This corrects the problem. It does left/right click, U just have to feel when U click. BRAVO Apple for such innovation!
