    Great little mouse

I've had this mouse for 9 months, replacing a PC type mouse. It's terrific. I especially like the the fact that you don't have to use massive amounts of pressure to use the scroll button and side-clicks. Goodbye RSI.

    mouse fails mechanically

I've used up a couple of these mice since I bought my G5. The first lasted only a few months, the second a couple of years. The first thing to go on both was the scroll button. The last mouse terminated with a variety of odd behaviors. I couldn't click on hot text in web pages; I couldn't click and drag; clicking on dock and desktop items just brought up a menu. I spent a couple of hours pursuing esoteric software issues, not easy when you can't navigate to the help files. Finally, I thought of trying the mouse from my ancient iMac. That mouse worked fine, even after a half dozen years of heavy use. The Mighty Mouse is swell when it works, but you'd better buy a backup mouse for that critical weekend when your Mighty Mouse goes west.

Method to clean the scroll ball...

I got my mouse around April 2007, the only problem was that my scroll ball clogged up and i could scroll down but up. So i went to my nearest Apple store and they fixed this by getting a plain piece of paper and rolling the scroll ball on the piece of paper (make sure you apply a bit of pressure if doing this!) This got rid of the dirt and avoided me buying a new mouse. So everytime my scroll ball get a bit clogged up i use this methhod to get rid of the dirt. Overall this is the best mouse i ever had!

buyer beware-- the scroll ball will break

This has been one of the most irritating apple-designed products I've ever owned. After only 1.5 years, the scroll bar sometimes scrolls down, not up, and no amount of cleaning or searching online for remedies has fixed the problem for longer than a day or so. I've tried compressed air, rubbing alcohol, scotch tape "flossed" under the ball-- everything short of taking it apart. Not to mention that the extra cool side-squeeze feature sometimes has a mind of its own and starts clicking in rapid succession without even touching it sometimes! It was great for less than a year, and ever since, it's been a huge source of frustration to those of us who depend on macs during a large chunk of our day, and our livelihood. Please, Apple -- redesign your mouse!

    Be Warned...

The scroll ball is HORRIBLE. If the slightest particle gets underneath it it is nearly impossible to remove it. After using it for about a year I became disgusted with the scroll ball continuously not functioning correctly and bought a regular mouse.

    A Great Innovative Mouse

As a new mac users (iMac) I can say that at first I didnt like this mouse at all. It seemed to sensitive, and the lack of an obvious right and left button was uncomfortable. However, after using it for a few days I grew very comfortable with it, and the center ball is fantastic for vertical and horizontal scrolling. The base is sturdy and solid which is great, my old mouse had feet the eventually became uneven. You can customize all the buttons so versatility is there. Overall a great innovative product. Take some getting used to , especially coming from a typical windows setup but it worth sticking with. Change is always tuff at first.

    Piece of junk

It's pretty but a terrible mouse to use. The ball has to been cleaned very often and the buttons on the side are very annoying to use. This product is probably the worst I have tried from Apple.

    worst and best mouse ever

I've had this mouse since it was released. I have 3 of them between work and home. My main problem with it is that each one has different problems. One the ball doesn't want to scroll up and yes I know how to fix this normally. The other two have issues with the side buttons. For the price this mouse should be easier to maintain. You can't take it apart to clean the ball. Also construction should be more consistent. I love to use it when it works but the constant problems when moving between machines is really annoying.

    Mighty Mouse Has Poor Reliability

I love the flexibility of this mouse but the scroll wheel has failed over and over. I tried cleaning it and that works for a short time but now it has finally completely failed. Too bad because I really like this mouse but without the scroll feature, it's useless.

    I loathe this mouse

Generally I am a big fan of Apple products. This, however, is an exception. I bought my iMac in December '06 and by March '07 the mouse ceased to scroll down. I cleaned it numerous times; sometimes it would fix the problem, but then the mouse would fail to scroll again. I called tech support and eventually they sent me a new mouse, which I currently have. The new mouse worked for a while, but now it doesn't scroll in ANY direction. I have been very careful not to eat and then touch the mouse, and I try not to get any dirt or anything near the mouse. Nothing seems to work. I am looking to by a non-Apple mouse sometime soon.

I never write reviews, but I just had to let people know how bad this product is. I have been buying Apple products for years but this is by far the worst I have ever laid my hands on.

The wheel / middle button is, for starters, too easy to press by accident. The scroll function is at times unresponsive and on mine, has stopped working altogether!

The side buttons are completely useless. They take a bit of getting used to, but even when you think you have mastered it, you will end up bringing up a function at the wrong time.

In one word, I would describe this mouse as frustrating.
It looks good beside your MAC on a nice clean desk, but after that, is pretty much useless. And before I forget, it does not work well on a lot of surfaces... so you will be back to using a mouse mat! There are much better 3rd party products on the market. Avoid this at all costs! Apple, get your act together... this mouse is awful.

What an annoying piece of garbage this mouse is. I think I spend more time cleaning the ball mechanism than using it.

    3 years.

I've had this mighty mouse for three years, and it is still working fine. However, at times the scroll wouldn't work, but it'll start working again in about 5 minutes or so.

Too "designer" for it's own good.

Had great potential with it's sleek designer look (ie. no visible right mouse button) but like most said below, scroll wheel works for about a month, it's stops scrolling so you fetch out the damp cloth or whatever to give it a good upside down cleaning (as advised in Apple Support), starts working again then stops. Mine only scrolls up and still no change after cleaning. The inside must be caked with dead skin which is inevitable (every mouse gets dirty) and you can only get to the dirty that's wedged in the grooves by the side buttons with a piece of paper.
No easy way to take it apart and give it a good clean, you just about have to break it to get to the insides.
Stop being so "designer" with this Apple, think practical for the next version, right button, proper wheel and make it easier to clean!!.....oh and give us that bought this a discount on the next!

Please sort out the scroll ball Apple

My experience is pretty much the same as everybody elses, while it works the mouse and especially the scroll ball are brilliant. However, after about six months the scroll ball broke and now won't go down, this is a major defect that Apple needs to rectify and soon.

Mighty Mouse is not up to it

Whilst I love my Mac and the keyboard is great I've had two Mighty Mouse(s) and both have been faulty. The first one stopped right clicking after a couple of days. The second was OK for a while but now the scroll wheel doesn't work. I've gone back to my Creative mouse which still works great after five years.

    Just got this for bday

My girlfriend got this for me for my birthday! Yay, thanks babe! I'm difficult to buy gifts for, it's nice to receive something that I really like. I'm not a regular mac user, I love GNOME and this works well with it. I love how responsive this mouse feels, the scroll ball works well and the buttons work like magic. The mouse has a stable base that doesn't rock like some mice with multiple feet, making it great for graphics editing.

For all of you who keep giving this mouse bad reviews, it seems that you all share the same problem, lemons. No matter how good of a manufacturing process a product may go through you must expect some to come out deficient, this applies to all hardware from all manufacturers. Apple has great support and if you got a dud send it back, get a new one and then come back and give this incredible mouse a REAL review.

    Nice Mouse!

When I purchase my Mac Mini, I wanted to get all Apple related items to go with it. The Mighty Mouse is a very nice optical mouse that is easy to use and the functions of the mouse are awesome. Way to go Apple on such a nice mouse with advanced technology! I love how customizable this mouse is and how you can access the Dashboard, Expose, and many other features that Mac OS X has to offer all through various clicks of the mouse. The only thing that can be an annoyance is that the sides of the mouse can be bumped, opening Expose when your in the middle of something, but other than that, it's a great mouse.

    well it looks good...

bought this mouse about 6 months ago. It looks great... It feels great... so it works great too right..? wrong. Basically my mouse has lost the ability to scroll down... it can go left, right or up... but not down. Tried to clean it as others suggest but without success. Ok so I know it's not the end of the world, I mean originally it had no "magic scroll wheel" so you had to slum it using the scroll bar/buttons but this one HAS a scroll wheel and the fact that a £35 mouse basically packs up after this amount of time is really poor. Do yourself a favor and spend like £10 on another mouse with a scroll wheel. These work great with the mac - in fact the one I am now using does just fine... and is over 4 years old!!!
