dont buy an airport express if you have an iphone or ipad OS6

i"ve had two brand new airport expresses in the past three months and they do not work with any apple devices that have OS6 (iphones and ipads). The airport express worked with my iphone before I upgraded to OS6.
Apple Care - i've been through five technicians over the last three months and many hours of troubleshooting - have not been able to resolve the issue which they say is related to OS 6. They also say I am not the only customer who has this issue. They cant say when or how it will be fixed.

    Life Changing

Ive had this router for six months now and it is flawless. Unlike previous third party routers that constantly crash and need to be power cycled - Ive never once needed to restart this Express and my connection on my MacBook, iPad and iPhone is consistent and never drops. Yes, its pricey, but you get what you pay for. Wireless speakers and printing are just icing on the cake.

If it doesn't work perfectly just exchange it

Please don't be discouraged by the one star reviews stating this unit doesn't work. It should work perfectly, and if it doesn't, just exchange it: I purchased this unit for my daughter to extend the range of our wireless network (served by an older Airport Express) to her room and allow her to stream music. I know one should be able to plug the unit in, set it up in under 15 minutes, and have it to work flawlessly for years. However, setting this unit up failed several times requiring hard resets. Once finally set up, every device in my house could connect to this unit except my daughter's iPhone 4S running iOS 6. A call to AppleCare determined that the unit was indeed faulty, and the Apple store cheerfully exchanged it for another. The second unit was a breeze to set up, and has been working perfectly in every way, as it should.

    Airport Express A++++++

Initially tried a brand new NetGear Extender to boost signal indoors, which someone gave to me. It kept dropping out - computers kept reverting to my router & ignored it.
Have AirPort Extreme. Bought AirPort Express.
Setup & configuration was immensely easy & quick. Had it up & running within 2mins.
Works like a dream. Never drops out, never any issue. Superb quality, reliability & serviceability. Highly recommend it :)

    Superb bit of kit!

I extended my existing Apple Network using both Time Capsules and a Airport Express. In short everything works. Have various Apple devices and the wife has a HP laptop and they all work 100% all the time through a Virgin Media 100mb line. What else can I say, superb and does everything it says on the tin!

    Flawless and easy set up

Bought an AP Express to extend my network from an Extreme Base Station since I am in a ranch type house and the reach of the network on one side the house would leave speed and connectivity some room for improvements.

Very happy, received, connected in a snap, and Voila! The connection is that side of the house is now super fast (FIOS) and no regret, this thing work marvels!

    Not For Me!

I was under the impression that I could use it for my speaker system....No so, It won't work on my Bose Speaker,(Can only connect the iPhone 4 to that).
Also won't work with the iPhone for printing...It only works with a PC or Mac computer if you want to print wireless....
Anyway it not for me,,,(can't print with my phone and can't listen to my music on my Bose with it.) But hey, it works great for everything else!!!!!!

    Required indefinite restarts

While attempting to set it up it would reset itself to update settings and never come back online requiring a hard reset. Ran around in these circles for an hour before giving up - never actually got it setup.

This is probably the worst Apple product that I've worked with or attempted to setup.

Good coverage, easy setup, perfect for my needs

I was looking for something to replace one of my access points (which was only 802.11g). I looked at many other alternative products but after looking through my requirements the express fit them perfectly. The added bonus for me was the ability to also add airplay to my audio system. I was very impressed with ease of install and also the configurable options on the access point. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to simply add a dual band access point for a network in a small to medium area.

    Ethernet Network Extender

I got this since wireless coverage is poor in the master bedroom of our house - just too far away from the Time Capsule. I had run ethernet years ago but plugging computers in is such a pain I always just dealt with the slow speed. Then, I saw this device.

I initially plugged it into wall power and used my iPhone to set it up as a wireless repeater - easy set up worked like a charm. Then, I got to thinking that I could use the ethernet to use this to extend my wireless network via the ethernet - much faster.

I read an extensive post here on how to do that and tried to follow that but it did not work - looks like that was written prior to the most recent updates. I reset the unit, plugged the ethernet from the Time Capsule into the WAN port (sun symbol) and fired up Airport Utility on my MacBook Pro. It figured out just what I was doing and set everything up for me. Now - fast wireless speed all through the house. Well worth the cost (especially as I had a gift certificate from a nice relative!)

When it works - it's great, but that's about 15% of the time

There are about three dozen reviews on here that are largely positive about this product and I can see why people think it is good. But for me this has been my first big disappointment with an Apple product.

iPad bought about 4 months ago, iMac just before Christmas 2012.

When it works it is great, small, discrete and performs well, but that is about 15% of the time, I only use it to stream music from my new (late 2012) iMac to my stereo. I have lost count of the number of times that the two lose connectivity (they are about 2.5 metres away from each other!!!).

Once you have made a connection and start to stream music they seem to hold a connection, but if the iMac is shut down or goes into standby, (or at other random times when I do not have iTunes running) the connection might be lost, (or not), sometimes when I start iTunes it will recognise the APE and sometimes it will not.

The APE has never had anything other than a green light, (suggesting that it at least thinks that it is OK).

If I power down the APE and re start it, it works every time, (but I didn't really buy it to faff around like that).

There are dozens of people on the various Apple support fora that are experiencing the same problem as me, Apple don't seem to have any answers.

So until I find a way of getting this to work properly so that "it just works" it will have to remain with a two start rating.

    Great for music streaming

Bought this just to stream music from Spotify from my iPad. It has worked flawlessly since I got it for about a month ago. The sound quality is excellent. I cannot hear a difference in sound quality compared to CD on my relatively high end (2000€) stereo system when using spotify on "extreme" sound quality.

    Everyman's WiFi Network

I bought the Airport Express Base Station to replace two older AEs, one extending my network on the 2.4 GHz band and the other extending the network on the 5 GHz band. I plugged the new AE base station in and launched Airport Utility 6.1. Airport Utility detected my existing network and in seconds had configured the new base station to extend my network both the 2.4 and 5 GHz. The only action I had to take was to click the button to update the AE. It could not possibly have been easier. Even the greenest novice should be able to set up a relatively sophisticated wireless network with this combination.

    Simple yet powerful

You know I really have to give those apple employees a lot of credit, your all amazing!
This router is elegant, simplified and powerful. It took a matter of minutes to set it up, provided the range, speed and connectivity to all my devices effortlessly.

    Keep designing great products!

Give you some reason not to buy this stuff

    1. The setting utility provide only few adjustable parameters. It don't even allow enabling the 5GHz wifi with the 2.4GHZ disabled.

    2. The Airplay lags a lot when connected to the primary router wirelessly instead of wired.

    3. If you consider it as an Airplay station, then bare in mind that you only use it to play music. If you would like to enjoy movie on your laptop while using the remote speaker for sound, the sound lags for 2.5 seconds in average. (even wired)

    4. Only 100Mbps ethernet port is equipped for both WAN and LAN port. That means the 300Mbps 802.11n or 5GHz WiFi is completely useless!! (hardware configuration doesn't match)

    5. It is a 2012 new product and cost USD99!! Should have got a better thing.

    Great performance and easy setup

I use the express at home to extend my iTunes to my stereo and a 2nd one to a boom box next to my patio. I had one of the older ones that died after about 6 years and I bought the new version to replace it. I wish it was a bit smaller and still had the integrated plug for travel, but performance is great and setup is easy. I've used lots of netgear and linksys routers and find this much easier to set up and range is very good.

    Works great!

Got this to stream music to an old speaker system. It works great. Set up took less than a min, plus it extends the range of our wireless network.

Would only get this if you are looking to expand your network, not if you wanted to use it as your main router. Get the Airport Extreme for that.

Takes a lot of effort to get it to work

I have two of these now, to extend my wireless network in my house. Currently I am trying to get the second one to work. Very painful and frustrating. When it works, it is great and reliable, but to get the device setup in the first place takes me hours, many resets of the device and a few too many swear words. In the end I will be successful and all will be good.

All apple products I have used work well. This is the only one that the setup does not work well, and you have to repeat the process over and over.

    Don't Bother

    Useless piece of rubbish.

The first one I got didn't work. Got a replacement and it was worse. Sent the third one back and got a refund. It worked for about 3 days... and then nothing.

I expected more from Apple. Only gave it one star because I couldn't give it zero.

    FANTASTIC!

This router replaced my Belkin router that I only had for a few months. It would always drop its connection and Airplay would never work so I had to keep unplugging it to restart it. With Apples AirPort Express I no longer have these problems. My Internet is always connected and Airplay is always there when I need it. Thanks Apple!
