    Excellent adapter! Genius design!

I am one of many victims who had to pay over $300 in repairs because one bad step ruined two computers. When I bought my macbook in 2009, I was delighted to see that apple had fixed this problem in an ingenious way. Since then, my MagSafe Power Adapter has held up strong, lasting two times (going on 3) as long as power adapters I had previously owned. Excellent buy!

    A Shame

My 13 inch macbook pro is outstanding, but this charger is a disgrace! A lot of the time it won't even charge my laptop. It is very susceptible to damage. Any moment and the outer cable can be severed. This is a very disappointing and thoroughly frustrating product. I may have to spend $80 on another one!

    Fails 5/5 times

Owner's Computer (Age) - design flaw (cost to repair)
    -----------------------------------
    J's Macbook (2 years) - replaced Power adapter ($80)
    M's Macbook (3 years) - replaced Power adapter ($80)
S's Macbook Pro (<1 year) - replaced Power adapter ($80)
T's Macbook Pro (3 years) - replaced Power adapter ($80)
G's Macbook Air (1 year) - replaced Power adapter ($80)
K's Macbook Air (< 1 year) - Nothing so far but I'm sure it will!

Every one of these is the same thing:
    - Cord: Great, heavy duty
    - Adapter: Great, heavy duty
    - Magsafe Connector tip: Great, heavy duty
    - Line from adapter to Connector: cheap, flimsy, thin (as in a lettuce wrap). Connector head literally BURNS off of the shoddy line. Line splits down the middle on occasion.

    Unfortunate

I've had my 13 inch macbook pro since 2008, and since then i have loved all aspects of this MagSafe charger. Unfortunately, it has stopped charging my computer. I've been wrestling with the cord to make it charge for nearly a month and now it has finally expired, along with my warranty, which means im going to need to spend $80 on another charger with a junky cable. If the wire was a little bit more heavy-duty and less prone to twisting (and more reasonably priced), then this charger would be a 5 star product.

I've written this review with the remaining hour of my macbook's battery...

    MagSafe review

I am on my third plug over 3 and a half years. The first two started falling apart and breaking after just one year of moderate use. I love the design but I expect it to be half the price and double the durability. On the up side, Apple have always promptly replaced them without any hustle or questions asked. The company in my experience has one of the top customer service standards in the industry.

Same quality as old Cord.. GARBAGE

This is the same as the old power cord. It wears out on the cord and then fails to charge the computer. This is my second one and third overall since 2008. So a new one every year since i have owned my computer. This needs to be addressed.

    Definitely not worth it

Seriously, I bought my macbook two years ago, and the original charger broke after less than a year, so I had to buy my new one for the fantastically terrible price of $79. Now, a year later this charger has broken too. I'm beyond irritated at the money I am having to put into this stupid computer that has broken itself. Like honestly 80 bucks is a little excessive and really I shouldn't have to buy a new charger every year because THEY SHOULD LAST! I really hope they can step it up and reduce the price or I certainly will not be buying another mac EVER because this is far too aggravating.

Ugh; I thought this one would last longer...

I thought the new angle of the wire would make this power adapter last longer than the previous model, but it's about a year later, and here I am, replacing it again. It's my annual $79 power brick tax, for the third time in three years.

I love the magsafe mechanism; it's kept the dog and the kid from knocking the laptop over a number of times, but it seems to me that they could build a joint to last a bit better for $79. If it were $20 or $30 I wouldn't mind replacing it every year, but when the price is encroaching on $100, for a power brick, I expect it to last for at least two or three years.

    Bad product

I bought a MaC Book two years ago. Yesterday, the LED on the connector stopped working and now the battery has ran out. I have never mistreated the unit; I've used it only around the house.
The power adapter is a bad product because:
    - it didn't resist normal use at home. I did not accidentally break the cable. A home computer should resist normal home conditions.
    - I've never had any problem with the power adapter on my non-Apple laptops ever. I never ever heard about problems with power adapters before. My opinion is that the design of the adapter should be improved so that it outlives the computer.

Have you checked the Fuse in the plug?

I've had my MacBook since 2008 and have never had a problem with the power supply till this morning! There was no life in it at all, I have always taken great care of the wires but gave them a wiggle just in case, nothing! I flapped as I use it for work and looked on line and found all these bad reviews and thought, great I'll need to go and get a new one! Then I thought I would just try a new fuse in the plug just in case as I know that when plugging into certain extension sockets it has popped once or twice. I am happy to say that it worked, that's all it needed was a new 3amp fuse! sometimes its the simplest things we forget about. So it's worth trying in a new fuse next time before you think about going straight out to buy a new one, or at least if it still doesn't work you can then rule it out as being a part of the problem - Hope that helps someone!

    rubbish

The same as everyone else! Bought computer 8months ago...charger broken already. I am travelling in Asia at the moment, and not having a computer is really annoying, and $79 for a new charger is more than I spend on rent and food for a whole week! Shape up apple!

Decent but could be more heavy duty

This is a pretty good power adapter. I love that you can have a longer cord if necessary and the LED light.
While moving, my power cord was put in a backpack with my 13 inch MacBook Pro. Somehow, a small slit was put into the power cord. I couldn't see any frayed wires and couldn't afford a new power adapter, so I kept using this one. A few months later a see some frayed wires, from normal wear and tear. That was two months ago. Now I am in need of a new power adapter, badly, at that. The power adapter only works if it is in one spot, if I move the cord it stops working and it takes quite some time to coax it to charge my MacBook again.
The only thing in the backpack was the power cord, my tablet with pen and mouse, and my MacBook pro. I have no clue what caused the slit in my cord but I now realize how fragile the cord really is. That slit grew bigger over time, just from transferring the power adapter from room to room.

It charges, but only for the first few months.

I absolutely hate this charger. Yes, it's nice to know that if I trip over it, my $1,300 machine won't go flying, but the price I pay is a non-flexible, charging tube. It's a terrible concept. Yesterday I called Apple and asked for a replacement (which is costing me $72) and I fear that unless I don't use it at all, it'll soon fail again. This design does not compliment the fine job behind the development of the MacBook Pro. It doesn't even come close.

    Doomed in about 1.5 years!

Almost impossible to get a stable ON signal, had to meticulously position the cord to charge. It was used for only a little over a year and a half.

Would be nice if the cord can be designed to be easily replaceable like the socket.

    It's a power adapter!!

Have kept two of these around for a while never had a problem. Just had one die of unnatural causes (50lb Lab puppy used it as a chew toy) but the other one still works great. The wire on the new 85w unit for my new Mac Book Pro is a little stiff so I will be careful not to wrap it too tight but it should last quite a while if treated properly. Of course your mileage may vary.

    Enjoy it while it lasts!

yes the design is sleek, cute and lovely... that is until it packs up for no just cause.

I used my new macbook for 9 mths before the power startd malfunctioning, sometimes comes on and sometimes off, i need to adjust d flexible cable before i can get a permanent on. after 2 weeks of doing this, it's packed up completely. I bought a replacement (85W) for it and used the original ac power cord. this new one packed up in 2 weeks exactly.
It was then I saw many similar reviews of faulty power packs for macbook and I felt fortunate that mine lasted that long.

My advice to Users: You'll love your mac if you just bought one. Enjoy it while it lasts. Guard the power cord like your private parts; dont put any strain whatsoever on it; dont tie it up, bend, curve, tie up the flexible wire in anyway at all, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL with it, and you might use it longer than i used mine.

Advice to APPLE: you could do better with something as mundane as power pack... PLUS, the replacement is way too expensive, so much that i've had to suspend the use of my mac for a while.

With very poor reviews for the adapter, you should do something quickly please... AT LEAST FOR THE LOVE OF THE MAC! and its teeming fans

    Built to Break

After having my MacBook for a little over a year, my charger slowly gave out (within about a two week period) just as I can see this product has done for many other people... very frustrating that the replacement is so expensive when these things are so short lived. This is something I will take into strong consideration when debating between Apple and Windows in the future. Either fix the product or lower the price.
