brand new and won't work without removing the battery

I just bought the new 60w magsafe power adaptor for my early 2008 white macbook. When I first plugged it in i through it didn't work at all as the light did not go on and it was obviously not charging. I tried moving it into every plug in my house - nothing.

Then I read that it would work if you shut down your computer and take out the battery. I did this and it initially worked, but as soon as I moved it to another plug it stopped charging.

I cannot shut it down, take out the battery and turn it on everytime I want to change to a different plug in my house. I have an appointment at the genius bar so hopefully it is just a faulty cord and not an incompatibility with my computer.

Hopefully they can give me a new cord and everything will be fine but I am very unimpressed.

    Failed

The first one never worked so I took it back to the store and got another one. The second one lasted 5 days before it stopped working. Going back to see if I get strike three...

    My Charger Died Today

So, I had my macbook pro 13inch for nearly over a year and its been working fine until today i tried to charge it and the light on the charger wasn't going on. i thought it was my outlet, but i plug it into a diff outlet and still nothing. i was looking at the other the reviews cuz i thought it was something i did to it when i cleaned it. I keep my macbook clean and neat. so when i looking thru the reviews theres been alot of disappointment and i'm one of them. i love Apple products, but really Apple? Don't you think at least read people reviews and improve your products. and $60-$80 is a bit to high for a charger. $40-$50 is a reasonable price. just my opinion. thank you for reading

    Awful

Bought this as my old original T-shape maglock charger for my macbook stopped working.

Have had it a total of maybe, 2-3 weeks and if I want to charge my laptop the cable has to be put into a very specific position.

Also the metal head that connects to your macbook gets very hot and can burn you.

I will be requesting a replacement and would hope that apple would stop using cheap materials and over charging because of their brand.

Go Back to the Old Version

I have a 13-inch macbook and purchased this charger a few months agoafter my old one (which was the old design) got accidentally cut. Let me just say I am mourning the loss of my old one. The charger worked for a while, though I can't say that the design was very good since I could only face the charger one way with my case on the computer which caused the head of the charger to block some of the other parts of the computer. This didn't really bother me THAT much, but what did bother me was the fct that the charger became increasingly harder to successfully use as the months went by. I began having to shift the cord around, pulling it up and shaking it around until last night when it entirely stopped working. I know that this is not the fault of my computer because I am now using my brother's charger which is the old version and it works perfectly. Please go back to the old design because I am sincerely uninterested in buying another ridiculously expensive charger that will stop working after five months

    Do not like!

I have had my new macbook pro 13inch for 5 months now and I hate the new charger design!

It pops out of the computer so easily!
I sneeze and the thing practically falls out.
All I have to do is move around a little and *pop*! there it goes.
When I use my friend's old design charger it stays in like a pro.

Apple, sometimes your upgrades aren't always a success, such as this one.

    Rubber cord

Love my 13in Mac book Pro, but don't like the power cord. the rubber cord doesn't roll
up very easy. The magnetic end should have a cap devise to cover to protect the end.
The sides to roll the cord on ruin the cord. the cord becomes a spiraled mess.
Maybe a nice pouch and a cap for the end would suffice.

Blocks ports if you have a cover on your MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro has a cover on it that only allows the cable to face one way and blocks the ethernet, firewire, and display ports. If you try to use it on the MacBook that also has a cover on it, it won't fit at all. I miss the old design... (and apparently will always miss it because that design is out) Hope the MacBook cord doesn't die out on me.

    Hate.

I have had to go through TWO chargers cause this stupid thing keeps dying and I've been through two in only 2-3 months, this is ridiculous and I'm getting ready to get another one. I baby my charger, I'm OCD over it. This charger is horrible and if it wasn't for me loving my MacBook and everything I wouldn't care. I WANT THE OLD CHARGER BACK I HAD IT FOR A YEAR AND IT GOT A STRAIN. But no, this one doesn't get a strain, IT DIES EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I will never like this charger and I don't have $80.00 a month to just buy a charger.

    I hate this....

    Hate this thing

Don't get me wrong - I love the MacBook, but this is the SECOND charger that has died on me in one year's time. SECOND. And I'm ticked. There's another $79 plus shipping down the tubes. Very, very, very unhappy.

WORST EVER DOES NOT WORK WITH SPECK CASE

13" Macbook Pro with Speck hard shell case

Apple, what the heck are you doing? It seems that your Engineering Department has fallen asleep. You create amazing products but in many years you can't create one decent power cord?

This new parallel orientation is horrible. The mag-safe connector can be "flipped" to either have the cord running towards you, or away from you out the back of the laptop. Both orientations pose a problem. If you have the cord coming towards you, it covers, and renders inaccessible the ethernet port and firewire port. You MUST unplug the power cord to use these.

If you flip it over, so that the cord comes out the back of the computer, it DOES NOT WORK WITH HARD SHELL SPECK CASE. The corner grip of the Speck hard shell case does not permit the magnet from making a full connection. If you fidget with it long enough, you can make a crooked connection that easily disconnects, but it is clear from the strain marks on the metal that the connector/pins are not happy this way. I don't imagine it would last long without damaging pins on either end as it is clearly "pulling" and not properly seated.

Would not recommend. Calling Apple to request old design replacement instead, but I don't know if they make them anymore.

Ridiculous price and Apple puts a hold on your credit card now until they get the faulty part back. (they never used to do this).

    Disappointed.

Good service but a terrible product

I own the Macbook. After a year my first charger frayed at the edge of where the magsafe adapter connects to the computer. I went to the store with the charger and they replaced it for free. Now six months later the second charger they gave me melted/split at the edge where it connects to the wall. (Mind I take very good care of all of my computers and accessories.) they gave me the newly designed charger (Again for free) which upon first examination appears better because it lies parallel to the laptop instead of perpendicular and the new one WON'T CHARGE. I am taking it to the Apple store tomorrow and hope to find out what the problem is.

Another problem I have with this product is the frequency of it overheating. Yes I use my laptop a lot but everytime I pick up the charger off of the outlet it is almost hot enough to burn me.

From my experience, Apple service is good based on how I was able to get two free replacement chargers at no hassle (upon going to the store in person) but if Apple demanded that I pay $89 to replace a faulty product it would have been more than enough cause to take my business elsewhere.

    love it

the old version of this worked fine for one year until the wire starting fraying and coming loose from the plug. This design is so much better and it looks like I won't be having that problem anymore.

    Sparks & Smoke!

Apple may make some great computers, but their Power Adapters are just plain bad! I have had gone through 2 adapters within 3 years. The first Power Adapter started sparking (by the magnetic base) and had smoke coming from it. I assure you, I take very good care of my charger, making sure to never twist the cord. Mac replaced the first cord, and sent me a second a little over a year ago. Well, while I didn't see any sparks come from this cord, smoke came out the other day, followed by the plastic melting by the magnetic strip. I called Apple, and they can care less. If you buy one of these chargers, please stay by your computer to supervise while charging. It's scary to see how these chargers can be fine one minute, and a fire starter the next!

    Buyer beware

This power adapter is terrible. I have only had it for 3 weeks, and it hasn't really worked from the day I purchased it (for way too much $80). The LED light shows green even though my battery is not fully charged. My battery is at 97%, and I can leave my laptop plugged in for hours and this power adapter doesn't charge my laptop at all, the battery still shows only a 97% charge, and the LED light has been green the entire time. I am going to try to fix my old adapter that worked fine until it broke, if I can't fix the old one I am going to try to find another product to recharge my laptop. I love my laptop but not being able to purchase a reliable power adapter, from what is usually a company with reliable products, is ridiculous, and will make me think twice about purchasing other Apple products.

    Too fragile and expensive

It lasted one year and four months before fraying at the wire near the mag connector. I cut open the wire and mag end and spliced it together because throwing away all the material and spending $80+ on a new power adapter would be ridiculous. Who knows if it's safe to use it this way. It should be designed to last for at least as long as the life of the laptop.

    ADAPTOR IS JUNK!

I bought a 60W Magsafe Adaptor to replace an earlier model that died after 18 months use (too soon, I thought). The new, redesigned adaptor lasted four weeks. I replaced that one. The new one did not work OUT OF THE BOX! If this is an example of Apple quality, I will heave a big sigh and go back to PCs. If I cannot rely on my power source to last at least through one trip (or one trip to the store), then I cannot rely on Apple products anymore. Fix your products. Redesign it or find a new Chinese assembly company that actually makes things that work. For $80, you should be able to do much, much better.
