    Poor Quality

For this product to cost 80 dollars, you would expect great quality. The quality of this cord is very poor. The material seems to be made from some weak substance. I am currently on my third power adapter and I only had my macbook for less than two years. The price ratio to the quality of this product is way off. I really want Apple to do something about this constant mishap. Not only am I having this problem with the cord to my macbook but I'm also having this problem with the usb cord for my iPhone.

    short lifespan

I bought my mac 18 months ago, and while I love it I have to say I am quite disappointed with the charger/cord. The plastic/rubber coating has cracked and crumbled at the base of the L-shaped plug to the point where the wires are exposed and now starting to fray. I am not rough on my electronics, so this is just normal wear and tear. I am now looking for a replacement or some option to extend the life of my charger since $79 is pretty steep for a power cord that doesn't last much beyond a year. Apple should really consider another material for the coating on the cord.

    No problems here

I came on here wanting to buy a second one (to keep at work) and saw all the negative reviews. I switched from PC (before that was a Mac user until 2001), and my PC laptop power supply was much worse. I have lots of Apple devices and after two years my iPad power supply did fray, but I did mistreat it. It still works though.

I think a power supply is not something you review if it works, you only come into complain about whatever horrible thing you did to it.

The Worst Apple Product I have used

It is high time apple designs a better product. This is third time I am replacing my adapter in two years. Really, the worst apple product. Either they should open up the patent licensing others to manufacture better adapter or just overhaul the product.

    Burnt

My charger literally burnt and melted... unsafe. terrible charger. I noticed that it would always get really hot but I never expected it to burn and destroy my charger.... That's a fire hazard... Does Apple really expect me to want to pay $80 for this piece of junk?

One star is too much for this

Now I'm buying THIRD charger, because of the same reason: it BURNS inside and tears itself off.

Seriously, this is the WORST electronic product I've ever seen in my life.

    Works perfectly

Never had any problems with any of the magsafe chargers. Working perfectly, continues to do so.

    20 months, two dead adapters

I can't keep replacing these. If Apple had just made the small, delicate cord removable from the brick (and therefore replaceable), the adapter would cost less than $5 to repair (though it's Apple, so they'd probably charge $20 for that little cord) instead of the $80 I've had to drop twice in less than two years.

Please Apple, redesign this adapter so that it can actually withstand normal use for more than a year.

    Send time charger gone bad

This is my second changer that has gone bad. Being a mac product I would expect a better quality. I have a mac user for last 10 yrs. and am disappointed by charger quality. The magnetic pin is the problem.

    It should be ZERO stars

I just bought my first MacBook Pro a month and my power adapter went out, no fraying just no longer works. I have owned plenty of PC's and never had a single problem. Reading all these reviews makes me believe that I should have stayed away. All of my cords are well taken care of yet this still decides to die on me. Not only is it an inconvenience to go to the store but if I have to buy one I know that it too will fail.

    Power adapter

    I cannot believe that
    a) after having to purchase a computer as expensive as my MacBook that I have to replace a frayed adapter wire. INSANE. I am very careful with my computer and all accessories, so for this wire to fray means that there is a problem.

    b) this adapter costs $79. And I will probably have to replace this one too....

    Rubber wire casing is shredding

I had the chord for about a year and a half and the rubber at the end of the cord on the computer end started to shred and fall off. I wrapped some electrical tape around it to protect the wire, and then now about 6 months later it's shredding in other places. I'm worried the rubber is going to keep disintegrating until i have the entire thing incased in tape!

    Expensive and shoddily made

I have had my laptop for 4 years and am about to buy my 4th adapter. When I bought my last one, the guy at the genius bar told me to be very careful about how I wrapped it. In fact I rarely wrap it at all, but I followed his advice the best I could. Result: a year later the insulation is tearing away from the underlying cords, which is dangerous.

Apple needs to fix this problem. I will likely be going back to a PC when I buy my next laptop, because while the computers may be great, Apple peripherals are too expensive and too poorly made to continue investing in.

    Poor Quality- It's a scam.

For computers that are lauded as being of the best quality in the industry, they sure are overrated. I have replaced the power cord 4 times in 5 years, and at a price of $80 each, I could have bought a cheap PC instead and just replaced that every 5 years. Between the power cords and the batteries and a laptop frame that cracked within weeks, I am finding the quality of apple products shoddy at best. The OS is nice obviously but not worth it for the continued cost and loss of time waiting on items to ship. This is a failure of a company based on greedy principles.

    Poor Design

It does not make any sense at all that Apple has not redesigned the power adapter for the macbook considering that so many people have experienced issues. My power adapter is slowly deteriorating leaving wire exposed. This is a horrible hazard that could be very dangerous.

gets so hot it burns my fingers

The design at first seems to be great if you trip on the cord it unhooks without trashing your computer. But after a short while the magnets seem to get clogged with iron fillings and I guess the leeds get dirty so the connector gets so hot it melted and won't charge anymore. I've ordered a new cord on ebay since this is out of warranty but my worry is the battery gets really hot too.

    Beware! Does not last!

Horrible construction. Went through two power cords already that frayed completely right near the magnetic connector. The plastic casing just started to peel off and then the wires become exposed. Then the wires frayed and posed a fire hazard. Make a better product and don't make me pay $79 every time your poorly designed product breaks.

    Gigantic Piece Of Garbage

Like most have said, the MagSafe Power Adaptor has a use life of 6-12 months at most. The cord is extremely flimsy and frays easily. The adaptor also overheats something terrible.

The worst part is that your Macbook is completely worthless without it, so you are forced to keep buying them!
