    Rubber wire casing is shredding

I had the chord for about a year and a half and the rubber at the end of the cord on the computer end started to shred and fall off. I wrapped some electrical tape around it to protect the wire, and then now about 6 months later it's shredding in other places. I'm worried the rubber is going to keep disintegrating until i have the entire thing incased in tape!

    Expensive and shoddily made

I have had my laptop for 4 years and am about to buy my 4th adapter. When I bought my last one, the guy at the genius bar told me to be very careful about how I wrapped it. In fact I rarely wrap it at all, but I followed his advice the best I could. Result: a year later the insulation is tearing away from the underlying cords, which is dangerous.

Apple needs to fix this problem. I will likely be going back to a PC when I buy my next laptop, because while the computers may be great, Apple peripherals are too expensive and too poorly made to continue investing in.

    Poor Quality- It's a scam.

For computers that are lauded as being of the best quality in the industry, they sure are overrated. I have replaced the power cord 4 times in 5 years, and at a price of $80 each, I could have bought a cheap PC instead and just replaced that every 5 years. Between the power cords and the batteries and a laptop frame that cracked within weeks, I am finding the quality of apple products shoddy at best. The OS is nice obviously but not worth it for the continued cost and loss of time waiting on items to ship. This is a failure of a company based on greedy principles.

    Poor Design

It does not make any sense at all that Apple has not redesigned the power adapter for the macbook considering that so many people have experienced issues. My power adapter is slowly deteriorating leaving wire exposed. This is a horrible hazard that could be very dangerous.

gets so hot it burns my fingers

The design at first seems to be great if you trip on the cord it unhooks without trashing your computer. But after a short while the magnets seem to get clogged with iron fillings and I guess the leeds get dirty so the connector gets so hot it melted and won't charge anymore. I've ordered a new cord on ebay since this is out of warranty but my worry is the battery gets really hot too.

    Beware! Does not last!

Horrible construction. Went through two power cords already that frayed completely right near the magnetic connector. The plastic casing just started to peel off and then the wires become exposed. Then the wires frayed and posed a fire hazard. Make a better product and don't make me pay $79 every time your poorly designed product breaks.

    Gigantic Piece Of Garbage

Like most have said, the MagSafe Power Adaptor has a use life of 6-12 months at most. The cord is extremely flimsy and frays easily. The adaptor also overheats something terrible.

The worst part is that your Macbook is completely worthless without it, so you are forced to keep buying them!

Bad design, flimsy materials. A failure that Apple should recall & replace.

Apple needs to change this design, it is clearly a failure.

The plug-side section of cable is fine, but beyond the box, the cable is too thin & flimsy. The wire also comes out of the box and the computer at really awkward angles causing the cable to bend, the rubber to fissure and the wiring to be exposed. I've had to patch up the area that connects to the laptop several times, but now the thing is just completely dead.

Apple build thier products in such a way that they only work with the peripherals and components that apple have exclusive rights to produce. These are mostly no better than or, in this case, considerably worse than their universal PC counterparts, and are only designed differently so that Apple can charge way over the odds for them without any competing vendors to drive down the price.

Your desperate clawing for monopoly is failing your consumers. Fix it now.

    Poorly Designed I've had 2 wear out already ( = $160)

Apple puts the expensive powerbrick on the same side as the fragile cord. So when the tiny cord wears out (and it will) you have to buy another $80 power brick.
How about making a detachable chord on BOTH sides of the power brick.

I'm so frustrated by this design flaw.

    C'mon, Apple.

Really? You make these lovely machines that look fantastic and work way better than any of that Dell cr*p I used to buy, but you can't make a durable, reliable power supply for them? And then you charge $80 for these crummy contraptions that self-destruct (well, at least the 3 that I've gone through over the life of my MBP) after a year or so of normal use (actually, I've even coddled the last 2, trying carefully to bend the cord as little as possible, but they still became dangerously frayed even with uber-careful handling).

    Better Build; Still Garbage.

It seems that I'm always getting new chargers because they're always flimsy and keep falling apart. I got a newer one about 8 months ago and it seemed sturdier than usual. Still lasted about 6 months before completely falling apart at the seams near the area where you actually plug it into the machine. It also shocked me once and made a burn mark on my computer! I'm about to get my 3rd charger in 2 years. Yeah it charges, until the minute it splits open (which doesn't take long), otherwise I'd want to give it 0 stars. Apple NEEDS to start making better chargers than this! It's too much money to waste on something with such poor quality of construction every 6 months.

    Annoyingly bad

I've had my macbook for about two years and I'm about to buy my fourth charger. I'm quite careful with the wire and don't wrap it tightly so it doesn't break, but that doesn't seem to help. Being a student it isn't easy to pay for a new charger when the old one decides to give up, so I'm pretty disappointed as the laptop itself is perfect for me.

    Worked...for a year...

I bought my MacBook Pro back in December 2011. This past month (July 2013) It has been overheating to the point to where it actually BURNED me. It is not working at all as of today (July 23rd) and I am NOT going to pay $80 for a new one. Up yours, Apple.

Snap, crackle, pop... one disappointed Mac user

My old Mac laptop lasted me from nearly 6 years before I finally had to admit that I needed more memory/speed/etc. But the power adaptor itself had never given me trouble. Bought the MacBook Pro in July 2012 (exactly a year ago), and after about 8 months, the 60W adaptor began crackling wherever and whenever I plugged it into an outlet (always grounded). Within a few weeks of that, I'd occasionally see sparks. Now I'm to the point where I have to wiggle it around and even tape the cord into awkward positions to get a charge to run to my computer. It reminds me of the days in the 80's when I'd have to wiggle wire hangers on top of my tube television to get a signal to come in. I am absolutely SHOCKED that an Apple product is doing this, and even more shocked to see just how many people are out there experiencing the same thing. It's only 12 months old, shot, and costs $$ to replace! Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave, Apple. GET ON THIS! You can do better.

On my third charger in less than 2 years

Charger #1: 45W which came with my Macbook Air. Problems started within 3 months. Depending on what kind of mood it was in, I got: the "Not Charging" battery icon, absolutely nothing, or a green light (and a charge!) which would disappear at the slightest touch. Right after the one year mark, it stopped working altogether. My bf chalked it up to me not taking care of my things, but it's a CHARGER with a CORD that's meant to be wrapped and unwrapped, and twisted and bent occasionally.

Charger #2: 60W. Slightly bigger but same flimsy design. (Why place the cord in the middle when no matter how we wrap it's going to bend at a pretty harsh angle???). I was annoyingly careful with this one and what did that extra effort get me? NOTHING! This one lasted half as long and when it went, it was a quick sudden death.

Charger #3: I am ordering from China for 1/4 of the price. Since I'm expecting the quality to be poor, I won't be disappointed. But honestly, it can't imagine it could be any worse.

    Wake up, Apple!

    Horrible

Apple charger, I really wanted to give you a 5 star but you don't deserve it. At $80 per charger I think it's time you make a charger that lasts...

    Sincerely,
    Totally fed up....

    Ugh!

I've had my macbook for going on about three months and the cord is already breaking. I take very good care of my cords and have not put it under any undo stress and the fact that it is already failing is absolutely infuriating. I will be in the middle of using my laptop and then it'll stop charging. Since so many people have had theirs break (so apple knows that their power cords are faulty) setting the price for a new one at 80 dollars is ridiculous considering that you're probably going to have to replace it again in a couple months.

    Planned obsolescence

I am a shareholder and our family of 5 owns over 20 Apple products, but these power adaptors are terrible. I feel taken every time I purchase a new one. We have three laptops and I am looking at a pile of seven failed adaptors. We are now fighting to use the one good one left, and it's a nightmare.
The nearest store is over 40 miles away. I know Apple can do better than this, and it's a shame we feel agitated every six months when these plugs die.
    HELP, APPLE!!!
