    Do not last!

Besides of being ridiculously overpriced Apple power adaptor do not last.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars

    Horrible, horrible, horrible

Looking for the 3rd replacement within two year. The cable to the Macbook tends to break at both ends. If Apple simply would build in plug in the adapter allowing to only swap the cord (similar as the power cord on the other end) you would only have to replace the cable instead (10 to 15 euros tops ) of the whole adapter (€ 80). Another option would be to put some more rubber around the cord so it does not break that easilly

Looking at the review on this site, Apple should be deeply ashamed that after year, they are still supplying this horrible adapter.

This is by far the worst product Apple makes and they haven't put in any attempt to correct it.

    Poor Design

I've gone through three of these bad boys in the last 3 years. What really irks me though, is that the design hasn't changed. Regardless of this product barely getting over a 1 star, Apple hasn't listened to its customers. Basically, your charger will short out on you regardless of how you take care of it, so just expect to shell out a few hundred dollars on replacements over the lifespan of your computer. Very disappointed.

    Terrible Design, Unsafe

I am about to purchase my third power adaptor for my Macbook Pro. The laptop itself is less than three years old, and it's ridiculous that I need to purchase a new cord once a year because it is so poorly designed. The first one shorted out and just died. The second one shorted out and burned through the cords - nearly severing the cord from the adaptor entirely (and causing a nasty electrical burning smell). Here's hoping the third one will last just a little longer.

    Poor Quality

I have gone through 2 of these. At 70 dollars a pop, it's not ideal. The only negative I have with my computer.

Glad I'm not alone, but sheesh!

About to buy my THIRD power adaptor! First one actually lasted about a year (thank goodness!!!) before the cord pulled out of the MagSafe plug. I kept it going for a while by just "stuffing" it back in, but finally sprung for a new one when the short started shutting the computer down (this is probably not good!). In two weeks - the first time it got just slightly yanked - the new one's plug separated from the magnet, which stays stuck in the computer. I can squeeze it together and it kinda works, but another three weeks later the cord is cracking at the same end!

It's a great idea, but the construction is awful!!!

    Horrible quality.

Why is the cord made from such poor, inflexible material? Even Dell makes better chargers than Apple. The material is completely unsuitable for bending and wrapping which are essential if you want to charge your laptop on the go. The material that encases the wires inside split open and the wires get damaged, and then you need to shell out $80 for another horrible charger. I enjoy using my Macbook, but what good is a Macbook that can't charge? I'm going to be using my spare non Apple computer, and probably won't purchase this charger; it's just going to break again in a few months.

    Cheap quality cable cracking

This is my second charger cracking the insulation (cheap white rubber) by the computer end. Charging $70 for a cheap cable quality in unnaceptable!?

    Complete Junk!

Need I say more. Just read the other reviews.

Although mine has lasted over 2 years (I guess that's good for these?)

But I went to unplug my computer today and the connector was so hot it actually burned my finger. These could actually cause fires or potential for serious lawsuits.

I would suggest a recall or better design. I LOVE my mac and iphone but the cords are garbage!

    Worst Charger Ever

Mac chargers are very expensive and break so easily! The wires feeding into the computer clip are ultra prone to getting damaged. I have replaced my cord several times with several models and no matter how careful I am, it's life span is woefully disappointing. For the price, it should be far better. At the very least you should be able to replace only the section prone to damage and not the whole cord!

Apple chargers are the worst same problem with iPhone and Mac books

    Needs another redesign

I replace this one for my MBP 13" about once every year. That money could be used on upgrading my laptop but instead I have to waste it on a poorly made product. It tends to fray right at the base of the connector and eventually stops working (probably not even safe to use at that point). Very annoyed. I'm only writing this because I just noticed my current one is starting to fray. Purchased last February.

Otherwise it does it's job. It charges.

    Piece of Junk

I have a 2 year old Macbook Pro and am about to need my 3rd power cord. They either stop working or on my latest cord, the rubber coating of the cord just behind the actual connector has split open. It is now being held together with a rubber band and tape. I love my Macbook Pro but the power cord is junk, especially for the price. I spend 2K on a laptop and all Apple can come up with are junk power cords that are over-priced and don't last? Ridiculous!

the product works, the users don't

I've been on the same macbook and same charger for 4 years. The product works great but you need to be smart about it. If your first charger broke pretty quickly, then expect every replacement to follow suit. What makes this product fail is the bending of the wire near the magsafe connector, which leads to fraying of the wire. To fix this issue, try not to bend your charger so much at the connector. Even after being cautious, after 3 years, mine started fraying at the connector. I simply used a bunch of electical tape and a small styrofoam piece to straighten out that part and conceal the fraying wires. The charger still works, except the orange/green light doesn't come on anymore. Considering the little button on the side tells if the computer is charging or charged, I don't really care about the orange/green light not working.

    Horrible!!

I dont even want to give them 1 full star. This charger is horrible. I have had my Mac pro for only more than 2 years, and I have changed 3 chargers. I was lucky enough to get replacements for free since I was still under warranty. But looking at this product's life span, I doubt this current charger will last long. And I'll be forced to spent $80 on this awful product!
Seriously Apple, your product is supposed to be superior, dont leave me with this impression that you are trying to steal some more money from customer by offering this cheap/low quality charger!

P/S: a little warning for Mac users out there, my friend's charger lasted much longer than mine (3 years- SURpRISE!) but died eventually (no surprise!) She ordered 2 chargers off ebay, and they all worked improperly, died within a month. Don't ever order from Ebay, its a waste of time and money. We are in such a dilemma, the only option she has now is ordering another charger from Apple.. sad!

    Terrible!

I have had two chargers stop working and am now having to buy my third in the last four years! For Apple to make such long lasting computers, you'd think they would be able to see all of these very terrible reviews and re-design these chargers so that they last longer! This is ridiculous! Apple, please pay attention to the overwhelmingly bad reviews on your chargers and do something about it! If you can spend so much time (and make us spend so much money) on software (OS X) updates that don't really offer that many useful changes, the least you could do is divert some of that time and money to making these chargers better. Please!

    Such a short life

I was hoping Macbook wouldn't cause too much trouble for me, but I was wrong. In less than two years I repaired the computer twice and costed almost 100 bucks. Now, the adapter wire is suddenly broken and I am going on a travel next week. Plus, apple is charging toooooo much on accessories. Maybe that's why the parts are not durable.

    Chargers DO NOT last!

On my third charger, the last one only lasted a year! I have both a Macbook Pro and Macbook Air and I have purchased 3 chargers for each of them.
