Charger is no where near as good quality as the computer.

This is the second charger that has broken in a little over two years. It is unacceptable that the charger would break so easily. The charger is 80 dollars and for that money I would expect much better quality. My first one would work for about 15 minutes then over heat and stop charging. My more recent one has just brok at a friends house for no reason. I just wish that chargers were as good quality as the computer.

Love my Macbook Pro, HATE the charger!

If I could give this a zero I would! My macbook pro is wonderful, but the charger started tearing at the charge zone and is working it's way up after a year. After having this for 20months well taken care of the charger died! I'm planning on going into Apple tomorrow to complain and see what they can do for me. If they think I'm going to dish $80.00 they have another guess coming, I'll look on eBay!

    Overdesigned/overpriced piece of garbage

One of the worst things Apple ever came up with. What a load of nonsense that the magnetic connection prevents undue strain, etc.

These things are notoriously unreliable, as attested by the huge number of negative reviews. My daughter's MacBook cord lasted a little over a year. I just thought she had been too rough with it, that is until the one for my MacBook Air started malfunctioning after just 3 months of light use.

I've owned a lot of PC laptops, and some of them eventually had power supply problems - but never in the first 5 years, let alone 3 months!

Apple should provide free replacements, plus pay shipping etc, to anyone who has one go faulty in less than 24 months. Of course that would cost them millions - but maybe then they'd fix their design rather than making profit by selling such overpriced pieces of garbage!

    Dosn't Last!

When you buy a $1300 laptop you expect the power cord to last 2-3 years at least. I have had mine for 18 months and its dead. I hated sheling out another 85 bucks for a new one but I had no choice. I do however have a Genius Appointment and they may replace the bad one for me. I will update.

    Terrible Power adapters

I really do not have a word for it, however this is the most annoying product. its more annoying because i thought it was more durable. I have had to change my Power adapter 4 times in two years. in addition to changing the base which completely came off, hard drive completely fried and track pad going haywire. I am really disappointed, more disappointed because i had to save some money just to get the almighty mac. not so mighty after all.

    Great Charger

The only reason I bought another charger was because my dog chewed off my original charger.

    $80??!!

I love my Macbook but the charger is unreliable. I have had my computer for a little over a year and it just stopped working. Based on the reviews, I see I am not the only one who has had this problem. I am a little shocked that $80 is the cost for a new one. Hopefully apple will consider fixing the problem so I won't need to replace one every year. :(

Over priced for a low quality product

I bought my macbook pro and I been using it since 2010 with utmost care, but my adapter cable just started tearing down for no reason... I rarely unplug it from the wall jack. Yet the plastic rubber that covers the wires literally crumbled. I can't get a replacement because I cant afford warranty and I can't afford buying another adapter because its so overpriced! Dear apple please reconsider you product and costumer value. Thanks!

    Just incredibly bad

wires come apart from the head easily, without any intence to pull it. Only a short period of time you'll find that the light on the head isn't on any more. First time I thought it was because I didn't use the long cort; there was too much stretch. But the new one was off one day too, there is no way to say I gave it stetch no more. It must be the problem in the design.

    Restating what's already been said

The power adapters stink for macbooks. Just like everyone else is saying, they do not hold up to a year of wear and tear nor are the replacements cheap. If technology is designed to break in less than 2 years, make replacements cheaper. This is my 4th one now in 4 years. Step it up Apple or I will not be buying another laptop from you anytime soon.

    Disappointed

This product should last, it simply should not fail after two years of service. I feel ripped off. If you go to the mac community you will see that this problem is a common one. Bad job Mac, bad job.

    piece of junk

This adapter is insanely overpriced, and falls apart. the wire soon becomes exposed with normal use and it will need to be replaced. Apple seriously needs to redesign these.

    Horrible!

Not even in a year, and my Macbook air adapter/charger has already been broken. Normally it would be slightly bent, and i would have to hold the adapter in a position for it to charge. $80 for replacement is just ridiculous.

Does not work well with cases

In addition to the fact that these chargers have a short life span, the new plug design does not allow the charger to work well when you are using a case (hard shell one) on your macbook.
It takes a bit of readjusting to get it to get proper connection for charging. The alluminum bar peice gets in the way. And even when you have it connected it gets disconnected with the slightest movement.

For the pros: the more durable cable lining is nice.

    Bad experience

I've had 3 of these since I bought my MacBook in 2008. I have to say that it's due either to its very poor design or just to my clumsiness. Too overpriced for the bad quality of these $90 babies in my opinion.

Not bad but way too expensive

I've had my adapter since 2008 and was pretty upset when it stopped working. Imagine my surprise to find that everyone has issues with this. I'm just glad that mine lasted 4 years versus having to purchase one every year. I like the adapter...I have to if I want my computer to charge. It does get a little hot but it does the job. $80 is just way too much though. I'll take my chances with a knock-off.

Apple likes to take your money.

My charger stopped working a while back and I didn't want to spend $80 on a new charger... Because that seems a little ridiculous. I cut my charger wire and taped it back together a few times to get it working again, that seemed to work for awhile until it starting sparking and making noises. So now, I guess i'm forced to buy one of these over priced chargers that are clunky & fragile, also I expect that it is not going to last long before it breaks. These chargers are the only option given to us, and we need them. So Apple continues to squeeze as much money as possible out of their loyal customers.

Apple really needs to read all these reviews and develop a new more durable charger with a slim design that is also a little lower in price.

    horrible adapter

my macbook pro is just approaching 2yrs old and i'm already on my 2nd adapter which is now malfunctioning/defunct so will be buying my 3rd one in less than 2yrs shortly. can't figure out what is wrong with these things - if it's in the cable itself or in the adapter port on the mac. wish they'd release a better one?!

    Exremely frustrating!

I like many other reviewers have been the victim of multiple power adapter failures. I too love my macbook pro but this issue of the power adapter repeatedly failing, after nothing but extreme care, is unacceptable. The $80 replacement cost is something apple needs to address if they want to remain a top computer supplier and retain customers. We pay higher initial prices for the MAC product in order to NOT continuously dish out another $80 a couple times a year for something that should have no issues.
