    Terrible

I'm a newbie to the mac world -- just got my mac in 2010. Overall, very pleased with everything. But the power adaptor truly is garbage...and expensive to replace.

After one year, the plastic and wiring on the chord by the head began to fray. After about two years, it completely stopped working. Very disappointing.

Works, and still working after 3.5 years

I honestly don't know why so many people have issues with this power adapter. I always keep mine with me, whether it's at school, at home, or at a friend's house.

I never bring the extension cable with me since I've never needed to use it before, so I really just use the standard "brick". I've had my power adapter since I received my MacBook in 2008 and it still runs perfectly fine. And to tell you the truth, I don't treat this with very much care. Upon reading the reviews of how poor this product's durability is, I decided to test it myself.

Well, after 3.5 years of constant use, I have no issues with it and I plan to keep using it as I have been. No problems with the cable fraying, no problems with the cable breaking at the strain reliefs, no problems with the cable overheating, everything is just perfect.

Died one week after my daughters

I've read other reviews, and they just about all say the same thing. Expensive and don't last. For a company that prides itself on quality, something has to be done about these chargers. Last week I payed $90 for a charger for my daughters Macbook, and now one week later my less than 12 month old Macbook Pro's charger has died. Now I;m going to have to fork out for another one. It hurts!

A case for Dom Littlewood at the BBC I think!!

I have only had my Macbook for about 4 months, and the charger has stopped working already,so I have had to borrow one until I can get a new one.I was advised not to purchase a cheap one ,so I came to this site ,for a genuine one,and saw all these negative reviews and could not believe it!!The laptop is great, after using a PC for years, but I feel let down badly by such a basic required part, and as for the price of a replacement-Apple you are taking us for a ride, you can not blame people for buying cheap copies, you should be reducing the price on this site to a comparable price.
I will wait and see if I get a favourable reply from customer service before I contact Dom Littlewood at the BBC.

    Totally disatisfied.

I am now looking for a new charger for my mum's Macbook, this will be the third charger for this same laptop which she has had for three years. At $80, you would hope for a little more.

    It'll last maybe a year....

I had mine for about a year, until it stopped working. Little things like this is really making tired of apple.

If I could rate none I would

My MacBook pro charger lasted 3 years and now in my third one of these each lasting 3-5 months! U don't twist the cable or abuse it - it's just intermittent and can't rely on it when I need it - resorted to charging mac pro when it works and then using as portable til I need charge then it's a guessing game plug unplug plug unplug - with no guarantee it will work for 80 bucks awful expensive needs problem fixed for durability!!!

    Still a bad design

The weak element in this supplies design is the way the cable is attached, as well as the cable itself:

Coming straight out and then bending 90deg to wrap it is asking for trouble. This, combined with the clearly cheap soft, easily damaged cable, just guarantee's that it will fail long before the charger itself does.
    ----------------------------------
The cable should exit the brick sideways, near one corner, and wrap around the perimeter of the brick, which has rounded corners. It should also be a more robust cable.

    Disappointed

I have already replaced one charger for my 2009 macbook pro due to the charger overheating (it becomes burning hot) and have to now buy another due to the plastic breaking around the prongs. For my other macbook pro which is less than 6 months old, the charger is overheating (happy I bought an extended warranty as I can see myself replaces these chargers quite a bit). I am surprised that Apple has not redesigned them and recognized that there is a problem. $80-$100.00 to replace them is ridiculous.

Will never buy another Apple product...

Don't get me wrong. Love the Mac, love the iPhone. DON'T LOVE paying astronomical amounts of money for charger after charger after charger. I did also buy a cheaper replacement that wasn't Apple branded and IT melted and could have burned the house down. Consider this before you purchase any Apple product. It's like those great printers that eat a small fortune in ink. Apple products will eat a LARGE fortune in chargers that are frustrating and dangerous. No wonder you can't actually rate the DEVICES here, the charger comments would hurt slaes I'm sure. As an editor for a mobile website, who used to sing the praises of Apple products, I was once determined to have everyone in the family converted to Macs. Now, I am only disappointed, and shopping other manufacturers for the day I once again have to shell out for electronics.

    Great product!

I love Apple products! Although the charger had recently stopped working on me, it's had a good 3 years without any problems. The breakage of my charger is probably my fault anyway for not storing or handling it very well.
The only downside is the price of the charger! It's so expensive, but being an Apple product, I guess it's reasonable enough.
All in all, I don't think I'll regret buying a new charger, as long as it doesn't break on me within the next couple years!

    Terrible product

I cannot even believe the poor quality of these chargers. I had one die on me that came with my laptop that I purchased about 5 months ago, and already the new one has completely fallen apart after about a month. Absolute rip off. The design is horrible. Really need to work on a new design for these.

Expensive for a poorly designed charger

I love my Macbook but the chargers are horrible. Spending $80 for this charger is absurd due to the fact that it breaks easily. Apple should change their charger design.

    MACBOOK CHARGER

The Mac charger doesn't really last...somehow the design is unique but it is uniquely unusable after a few months. I already changed the charger after just a few months and now, again I have to purchase another one to replace it with a skyrocketing price of $80 excluding tax.
Can't they think of redesigning that charger so it'll last longer? At least so the price we pay for it will be worth it?

    Hasn't broke since 2006

I own the original '06 MacBook Pro with the original MagSafe and till this day, I am still using that same power adaptor that came in the box and it is still working almost flawlessly except for cosmetic damages. I don't see how people can fray their cable unless it's a PowerBook barrel / yo-yo cable then I understand.

Weak Link on a Good Product

The Macbook Pro is great but the charger is very poorly designed to stand up to everyday use. If it is going to break on such a regular basis, requiring replacement 1-2 times a year then it should be much more inexpensive. $80 a pop is outrageous and you know it is going to happen at the most inconvenient times, budget-wise.

At the price, you would expect it to last the life of the computer or at least only have to be replaced every few years. The cord should be separate from the charger adapter and plug into it, then you could just replace the cord and not the whole adapter assembly every time. It should work like the iPad's charger, with a USB or other power port in the adapter for the cord.

With all the grief and complaints Apple has had over this issue and the elegance of the design of their other products, you would think they would have fixed this by now.

    Poorly made and hugely overpriced

Selling these for $80 is absolutely obscene. The end with the magnetic bit that plugs into your computer gets twisted around and the wiring internally gets frayed, resulting in the whole thing losing all function. And you cannot take it to a store to fix this problem, you have to buy a new one. For such a small, readily occurring injury to make the product obsolete, this is much too high a price.

    Problematic

This'll be my third charger in just under two years. Bought my 2009 Macbook Pro 13'' second hand nearly two years ago and the T shape charger that came with it broke about 6 months after purchase. I had another one in the house from a previous Macbook I had and that lasted little over two months. I bought a brand new L shape charger and it seems to be okay for now, though it needs a wiggle before it'll even work. Not only that, but I seem to get the occasional Kernel panic just minutes after I plug it in. I've tested this charger on both mine and my sister's 2011 macbook pro 13" with the same results. This is poor.
