    Waste of money

I, like many before me thought this accessory would be great. Alas, it does not work with my Canon camera. A complete waste of money, such a shame as it could make life much easier.

Logitech USB headset works with iOS 4.x

Just wanted to share that my Logitech USB headset works fine with the USB Camera kit on my Ipad 3G iOS 4.x as a headphone as well as a headset for skype. SD cards works fine, but i have not yet test my Canon G9 camera via USB.

    Use caution before buying

Apple (Steve?) has locked-down the iPad even further with OS 4.2
The Camera Connection Kit that had an "official" use and an "actual" use (that consumers were VERY happy about) was rendered pitifully "official" by OS 4.2 and now photos will be uploaded IF your SD card uses a maximum of 20mAh (all the other gadgets will not work anymore), and the files must be unaltered, have 8-character file names (only), and supposedly put in a sub-folder of DCIM to be recognized properly. (Be warned, many owners have reported increased "optimization" of image files - they are reduced/grainy in quality) My SD cards no longer work - neither does my wired keyboard.
Apple has administered this type of lock-down with almost every OS release. And, unfortunately, it hurts good customers who are reliant on the original options - despite still making huge profits for Apple.

    This makes transferring pictures easy

I bought this before I went on vacation and it helped so much. All I had to do was put card in adapter and hit sync and all picture loaded on my iPad now I need to get them all off but this is great.it is worth the money

    Broken with iOS 4.2

Like many other reviews, iOS 4.2 broke this.

    What doesn't work:
    1. Card reader that worked fine with previous versions. Now when connecting a simple card reader (Sony model mrw62e), it says it can't power the device.
    2. SD card reader. I have an Olympus Stylus 1030SW that uses an xD memory card. I transfered my pictures to an SD card, thinking that I could now import them. No luck. If you dig into the Support forum, the fine print warns that the SD reader will only read the original media/files from the camera, not a copied file.

    What works:
Nothing that I have tried. Am on vacation and had counted on this to import/edit/post pictures. Now out of luck.

    Big disappointment

NOTHING I plug into the USB plug works, telling me that there's not enough power (even when the iPad is fully charged AND the camera is turned on supplying it's own power). With the SD card reader, using a micro SD card and an adapter (which the little manual that comes with the camera kit SAYS will work), of the two microSD cards I have, one isn't recognized at all, and the other, when it is recognized, is reported as empty, though I can see the images on the camera. If I use my computer to copy all the images over to an MMCplus card, I CAN use the SD card reader, BUT it doesn't pull in any videos, and only some of the pictures. Considering the entire reason for using the iPad and camera connection kit is to be able to access the images away from my computer, this is just one of the many reasons I feel the iPad is a failure as a useful device. $600 down the tubes.

    Great Product

I bought the camera connection kit today, and man does it work good with my camera, I love how there is an SD card and a Camera USB connector. My pictures look awesome when uploaded to my iPad. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to put pictures on their iPad.

No longer works under iOS 4.2

This product worked fine with my Olympus and Nikon cameras as well as several thumb drives before the upgrade to iOS 4.2. Now everything results in “The connected USB device requires too much power". This makes it useless.

Works great on iPad with OS 4.2 - here's how

Ok, many have said it doesn't work on 4.2 - I reckon - it works fine, to a point.

If you read the wording carefully in the support area there is a sentence that says something like the Connection Kit will read from the card based on the format set by the camera.

I didn't realise until after some trial and error - but - if you use an SD card with normal folders etc - it wouldn't work, nothing would show up. If I used a card with the standard DCIM folders - magic - it worked.

I am thinking that to make it easy to pick photos from a camera Apple makes it look for that folder and then draws down the content, could be wrong - but that is how I got mine working after initially having a false start.

So, now, its great, away I go!

LEICA DNG AND IPAD CAMERA CONNECTION KIT (HORRIBLE!!!!.....)

I just got the Camera Connection Kit (CCK) and downloaded some DNG files, the native format for my Leica M8, from an SD card. They look horrible on the iPad, as if I took a very small Jpeg and uprezzed it. To make sure it wasn't the CCK, I shot some Raw files on my wife's Lumix DMC-LX3 (RAW) and downloaded those to the iPad. The files looked gorgeous!

The Leica M8 has been supported by Aperture and the Mac OS for a while now. Any idea where the problem lies? Is it a DNG thing?
what camera file formats that are recognized on the iPad?

Rough start, then did the research

I bought the camera connector kit for my iPad in order to sort through photos while traveling abroad. Took it to Spain in November and was highly disappointed because I could not get it to work with a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo. (I only tried the SD card reader connector.)

I decided to give it one more chance and did a little online research. It took me a while, but after a few tries, I got the connector to work by putting the memory card into a Lexar Memory Stick Duo adapter, sticking that into my USB card reader (Vivitar MS/MS-Pro Card Reader), and then using the USB interface conncetor. It all worked perfectly and I am now ready to use it for my next trip abroad in June!

Imports video but will not play video

I am terribly disappointed with this product. Apple leads you to believe that you can import your videos and then view them on your iPad. Though it will import videos, it will not play them. After hours of trying to figure out why, it turns out there is no reason for it not to work with my particular camera which saves video in mp4 format. Though I do like that I can import pictures directly from my camera or from my phone, I was mainly interested in using this product for the ease of saving and viewing home videos. Hopefully it is a software glitch that they will fix soon.

    Great iPad partners

They do exactly what they're supposed to do very simply. A really nice solution.
