    Power Adapter

The power adapter is not designed for some one daily wrapping up the cable for travel. Twice the cable has frayed in the same place by the Power-brick and eventually does not work. As it cost £65 a time it needs to be made more robust.

    horrible product

i've taken the most extreme care possible of my charger. I was able to get over 3 years out of it that way! that seems far better than most. it was to no avail though. it still broke at the same stress point as all of the others out there. Its very irritating as the brick is fine and the magsafe adapter is fine. Just the point at which the cable enters the brick.... i had to buy a new one. i will take this on all apart and try to service it. i dont think its going to work out to well....

    Unacceptable

I, and many others I know, have purchased this charger several times. It simply doesn't work after too short of a time. Suspiciously it stops working not too long after the 1 year warranty. Hmm. I used to love apple and its products but after several hardware issues with several of my computers and of course my ongoing issue with the charger, I cannot say I will remain an apple faithful. Step up your game apple because no company is too big to fail.

Another $86 dollars down the toilet

Please fix your design. It's not the consumers' fault for "storing it incorrectly."

I'm going to try electrical tape this time and see if the cable holds out longer than a few months.

    Great product!

I have never had any problems with the cables fraying on this, or my previous adapter (for my 2007 MBP). They've worked great for me, with no problems whatsoever. I couldn't be happier with it/them!

    Zero stars

I have gone through 3 of these power cords (and now onto 4 ) since I got my computer in 2009. What a bad design. Seriously Apple, can't you fix the stupid power cord? I don't even travel with my computer, just work at home.

    IDIOTIC !!!

I wasn't sure why so much bruaaaba about this adapter until I tried it...

Can someone at Apple explain to me why they would change a working (not so well) but working adapter (rectangular shaped) for a alu. tube that you have to plug a certain way if you don't want to loose a port which is very dumb.

Also it unplug very easily in fact because it naturally bend the cord, this is the most stupid (and stupid is a huge understatement) modification I saw so far from Apple.

Keep the square shape and make it aluminium, get a better plastic for cable as well.

Steve Jobs would probably have fired the engineer who did that and we would have never seen such a plug out of the bench to start with.
Jobs liked to work only with A people.

Who the @ did design this at Apple??????
And what was his goal here????

    T. Cook is to blame he his the boss after all -

    another one bites the dust

This is really bad engineering, not expected from Apple! Cord frayed at the magsafe connector and at the brick, and the adapter is now dead (in <18 months). Shocked to see that this product is still being manufactured even after a huge number of negative reviews.

MagSafe Power or not to power?

I've read through many folks comments and felt I must write.

I am not part of a collective of negative sorts, as one chap ridiculously suggests. I am one guy who was looking to buy a new power supply and the review page hit the top of my google search. As I started reading I couldn't help but think the defenders of the power supply are blinkered by being the lucky ones; they assume that because it doesn't or hasn't happened to them, it can't happen.

I have cared for my power supply and laptop with utmost respect. It has not travelled much and is used in the same location at home. That didn't stop the first power supply from failing at 18 months. An internal component.

My wife's macbook power supply then failed too just three weeks ago, at about three years old. It was a different failure in that the metal end to the magnetic cable connector broke off.

Hence folk that ask for the cable to be detachable do indeed have a valid point.

The MagSafe adapter is not the computer and does not have the same rigorous 'lifetime' testing. It is designed to stop the computer from being damaged, not itself. Obviously with so many complaints there is a significant issue that needs addressing (if it has not already been).

For my part having to spend $160 or a £100 on two new power supplies in three years is a disgrace. If lived near an Apple store I would go in and hungerstrike until they fixed or replaced it or until about 4 hours passed and I got bored and, of course, hungry.

Maybe return a broken power supply for a new one for 50% off?

    Poor Product

My second adapter just failed; very frustrating as the computer I am using it with is only two years old. Really inexcusable quality control issue on this and it is a very damaging reflection on Apple. Puzzled as to how Apple lets this happen.

    cord splits over time

When I buy an apple product, its because I want the best money can buy. Its not the worst charger in the world but needs replaced after about a year and a half and not worth the money at all.

2nd power adapter only lasted 6 months until cord frayed

This must be the worst apple product ever and probably a good money spinner for apple. The cord frayed again. This time after only six months. Thankfully a bit of aluminium foil helps to re-establish the connection to bridge the time until a replacement arrives. This product is a real sucker.

    Another adaptor?

Reading through all these reviews of the MacBook adaptor really makes me wonder why no one at apple has come up with a solution for this problem yet. I've had the same 15" MacBook Pro since August 2007 and as of today I will need to purchase my third adaptor for this laptop. C'mon apple, get your game together! I'm really disappointed and annoyed that I have to do this again, these adaptors are not cheap. I went on YouTube and I was amazed at how many hits the DIY repair videos for the MacBook adaptor has. Obviously lots of ppl out there are all having the same problem. This time I'm going to call the customer service line and complain. If it makes any difference I will post the results. A big thumbs down to apple today!

Design only good for making Apple more money

I'm on my third one of these cords in 4.5 years, each one costing $80 to replace. Both of my previous cords have failed at the same place because of how the cord gets frayed when you wrap it around the transformer (something the cord is supposedly designed to do). Also, with the connection to the computer, you have to choose whether to have the charger cover up your ports or hang awkwardly out behind your computer and get frayed--terrible design. The MagSafe 2 is better, but only barely.

Power Adapters - the worst fails of Apple

I've bought 3 Apple MagSafe Power Adapter, each one in 6 months… I'm really upset, it's useless buy a mac book pro, if the charger don't work as must be. The Power Adapter was designed to never be portable, the worst of Apple are the cables, enough reason to me, and never buy again apple's products.
As always the sides of the cable it has discomposed, every day I take a much care about the cable, more than the computer… And today I'm writing this with the las 10% of battery. No again Apple, No again.

    Bad pin springs

Add to the mix replacing ANOTHER charger due to broken springs that stick the pins far enough out to be used. Just plan 2 years for a charger, its the Mac Tax. Apple, please find a way to repair cords, I really dont need to throw out another transformer.

    Melty Cord

I've had this power cord for two years and suddenly last week the cord got so hot near the power block that it melted a hole right through the casing. I immediately got some electrical tape and taped it up tight to keep it all together but I knew I would have to replace it soon. I noticed only two days later that it was getting hot again and had melted the electrical tape and the casing was coming apart like butter. Now I have to spend $80 of a cord that should last as long as the computer. C'mon, apple. Fix this, please!
