    Brilliant

This product came with my new mbp - I changed from PC, so this is my first taste of Apple. So far, NO complaints!

The magnet is strong and does not fall out, is difficult to accidentally dislodge, the cord is a great length and with the mains power cord alternative I have no problems getting power - at the dinner table, on the couch watching tv, or in bed where the powerpoint is on the opposite wall.

The unit itself is sleek and stylish with two flip-out corners to wrap the 'tail' around and clip so that you don't have errant cords getting tangled.

Could not find a single fault with this product.

    Not Backward Compatible!

I bought a new MagSafe and it will not work with my 3 year old Macbook Pro. It will charge once, then won't connect. I have to remove the battery and do an SMC reset every time to get it to work. Not an acceptable solution. Ironically, it works with my daughter's 4 year old Macbook.

    mixed feelings

I bought my macbook pro in 2008, and my charger failed 3 months ago. While I like the whole mag safe tip, the extension cord and 2 prong attachments and the form factor, something like this should be engineered to last MUCH longer. Especially for 80 dollars. Perhaps if it were made in America...

Apple sacrificed function over design this time

MY mbpro 15 inch of 2 years power pack died and i had to go to apple store to get a new one. Since I bought mine, apple decided to 'streamline' the magnetic connection on the power adapter. Either the magnet is weaker or more likely the design is flawed as anytime I move the laptop the cord pops off. I think this is due to the tension created in a 'prying' fashion due to the power cuplink is at a 90 degree position whereas before it was at a 0/360 degree and took more effort to detach. I'm REALLY disappointed in this new design.

    Needs Help

I've gone through three of these in two years. The last one didn't even make it twelve hours. I'd give it a negative five rating if it was an option. Please redesign this Apple.

    Charger length much too short

The length is so short and you have to sit right next to the outlet whenever charging. It's very inconvenient. The charger is ok in that it charges reasonably fast but it definitely could use some improvement.

Works for 2008 17-inch MacBook Pro

This is a more clean cut power adapter than older versions. My old power adapter had the cable shielding that ran to the Mac pull away from the base. I bought a new one thinking it would be an easy replacement... It did not work until I got onto the support site and found a review of the power adapter by "LM."

LM stated in an earlier review the following in order to get older MacBook Pros to work with this Power adapter:

"okay, flip it over, take battery out .. hold power button in for 10 seconds.. then put battery back in.. then plug in new charger! i bought new charger for my old model and it worked once then crapped out. took it to an apple store with computer at hand and a young tech did this for me. old heads had no idea about that trick. it def. worked for me. seriously try it.

thanks young king of prussia tech guy! "

    It definitely works!

    Poor quality,

I now have to purchase my 3rd power adapter for my MacBook Pro. The power adapter connections just unravels, with wires exposed. Not very impressed with the quality of the product.

    Needs improvement, Apple.

Finally got it to work with my '08 powermac...for now

On my 3rd charger in two years. After the second one broke I went into the apple store where, (after first trying to sell me a 60W charger for my 15" laptop) they sent me home with this without any mention of it being different. I didn't realize it had a new look until I pulled out of the box. Did not work. After some brutally slow browsing, came across someone's tip to take out the battery, hold the power down for 10 seconds, put the battery back in, and then power up. It worked - for now. After two years of burning hot, burnt out chargers, I'm not holding my breath and not at all impressed with the hoops I had to jump through to get this one working. Come on apple, please hold off on the shiny new products until you can get your power supply right.

Don't bother if you're on an older Mac

I have a 2007/2008 15 inch mac book pro which uses a slightly different looking power adapter. After it frayed like everyone's seems to in a few years, i ordered this replacement. The older reviews warned that this new design may not work well with older laptops but the sales department assured me that it would and that actually no design changes had been made.

It worked for about a week then stopped charging and the little lite doesn't come on any more. Frustrated that apple didn't know their own product I called support and spent almost an hour on the phone by the time they transferred me to sales. They still dont believe that the slight design change stops them from working and to top it off dont supply the older charger anymore. Ahhh....

There are going to be 10's of thousands of people with this very same problem so you better buy one on the black market before they're all gone. The ended the phone call saying they of course wouldn't support the warranty of the charger if I go buy a used one.

Really wish apple would get a grip on this issue and stop wasting everyones time.

    junk II

The piece to plug into the outlet falls off easily (and now lost), so now I have a useless $80 power adapter.

    Not compatible with older hardcases

It works ok if you don't have a cover on your computer. I have an incase hard case. The newly designed magnet part doesn't stick out as much as the old one. So when I plugged it in to my computer, the magnets didn't make enough contact to stay stuck. So I had to cut out a new hole in the side of my case so that the magnet could get closer to the computer. BIG hassle! There should be a warning on the packaging that says it is not compatible with older hard cases. If I knew, I would have chosen another brand.

    It's junk

I've had it less that 5 days and the thing is fried. I was moving my 17 MacBook Pro from one side of my desk to the other and I smelled something burning. It was coming from the L-shaped plug at the computer and I noticed the charge light had gone out. Unplugged it and examined it and it looked fine, but it's definitely dead. Have to make another trip to the genius bar. BTW this is the second one we've tried, first one worked for about 5 mins on my daughter's Macbook.

    charger/power cord

Mac book pro...15 in. i am very disappointed with this $80. + replacement charger. It is soooooo hot. you can hardly touch it. It is bad enough that the bottom of my computer is enough to burn your lap,now the charger? Is this replaceable? I also just bought new battery, mind you I have only had the whole thing for just over 2 years. No too happy.

Do not bend, which is impossible

The cord easily frays. My original one became detached at the base were the small wire goes towards the Mac. The replacement I was forced to buy frayed on the other side were the big wire goes into the power bar. I have done nothing special. What irks me is that power bars for other computers, and electronics in general, seem to have been designed for bending. The Mac power bar seems to be afraid of bending. Which makes absolutely no sense. It basically seems extremely cheap and poorly constructed.

    It caught on fire.

I try to keep great care of all my stuff, but this charger is just horrible.

The magnet sticks so strongly. The cord ends up getting pulled all over to disconnect it. I have gone through 3 chargers, I'm going to be on my fourth now.

The third charged would only work if the cord was bent. I plead to anyone to not bend the wire of the charger if it's fraying. The charger caught on fire right near the connector to the laptop and melted. It obviously doesn't work any more.

This is apparently a common problem with the charger if the wires get bent. Solution? as soon as you get the wire, wrap electrical tape around the the connector area to reinforce the cord. Would be really nice if Apple just reinforced it themselves, as wires catching on fire seems to be a serious design flaw, and I don't remember ever being told to not bend my wire.
