    Failed after 5 months

My power cable stopped working after 5 months. Definitely not worth 80$ to replace. Lame apple, just lame.

    Do not buy

This is my second charger and this one lasted half the time of my previous one. The charger never leaves my desk and it has stopped working after only 4 months.

    Undeserved negativity

Often times the problem with a power adapter no longer charging is simply the need to reset the SMC per Apple document HT3964.

Sadly, too often people want everything to work perfectly all the time and never have the need for any maintenance. I still have my adapters that have outlived my old MacBooks, and they work fine.

    Use care

I see thousands of one star reviews for these adapters. I myself have some frustration with Apple for not making a different adapter for children and teenagers who use laptops in bed with the charger attached. They also tend to wrap the cord tightly around the transformer for transport. These are bad and careless habits. I am 3 years into my MacBook Air 13 with no trouble at all from my adapter. I have replaced 3 for teenagers in that time. I use my notebook in bed untethered. I plug it in when I go to sleep. I leave it plugged in when using it at a desk for extended periods. It is a BATTERY POWERED device. Charge the battery. USE the battery. Have fun.

    Sub-standard product at extortionate price

While this charger does do the job it is meant to (charge the battery), the lead is nowhere near robust enough to withstand normal wear and tear.

The rubber covering on the lead breaks easily exposing the metal wires underneath, and these also break too easily. My lead has been patched up numerous times but has now stopped working altogether (too many of the thin wires near to the 'mag safe' connector have now broken and enough power is no longer getting through).

Considering that the main reason people will need to purchase a replacement charger is that the quality is not sufficient to last, the price that Apple want us to pay for a new own brand one is pure extortion - I will be buying an alternative.

    POOR QUALITY

ive had so many other computers before with nothing wrong with the charger, the apple charger is innovative in its design yet the quality is by far the worst of any charger i have used to date. the rubber insulation literally tore in half exposing live wires. on top of that the charger over heats. TERRIBLE PRODUCT - unfortunately necessary to continue the use of my macbook.

    Poorly engineered and manufactured

The magnetic cable broke down at the connection after about a year of use. I am afraid to spend another $90 and go over the same hassle again. There needs to be a solution for this problem. Here is a good opportunity to make money with a better product.

    I hate you Apple

This is ridiculous! How can it break like that? I noticed it was fraying and the 2nd day it was so broken that I almost thought I had ghosts in the house who pulled the cable rubber. There is no other explanation for this type of breaking since I am not playing with the cord all day.

    Power lead

Possibly the worst excuse for a charger I have eve seen. My old Nokia 3210 charger had a better connection and longer shelf life.
The cord is barely a year old and has completely failed, now the wires are frayed and possibly dangerous.
The magnetic connection is just a gimmick and constantly disconnects.
Why don't they just make the connection deeper as with USB or headphone jacks and reinforce the end of the cord? I knew I would have problems with the cord within an hour of usage. If I can spot that as a gardener, surely the boffs at Mac must have seen this coming. Come on Mac, good charger designs have been around for decades. If you can't design one yourself, steal an existing design. Raise your game.

    Great

This power adapter is far superior to any other. Really works great. I love the indicator light and the magnet. Stays attached great but comes undone if pulled on hard enough just like it should. I have owned for over a year and still looks brand new. Overall a great product!

I guess I got the longest life out of it (13 months)

So much for the "thoughtful" design on utilizing a magnet to "prolong" the life of the charger :P. I am new to macs and do not really know if this is an ongoing issue with the mac book chargers; but it seems that Apple needs to seriously rethink their design.

    How many bad reviews?

My cord failed, my husbands cord failed, my cord has failed again...what is going on? My old mac cords didnt fail so I know that I am not particularly rough on cords. I was actually relieved to see so many bad reviews on this product so I know it is not all my fault.
They should replace them all for free and not make you go to the genius bar every time. They should redesign and make it a more durable product.
My first cord failed at the magnetic connection site and it's replacement immediately tore through the plastic coating near the wall plug.

3 Months and it was toast

My former Mac Book charger had to be replaced in a little over a year. My new MacAir only lasted 3 months. Time to redesign this charger and make it robust!

Why does this cost so much, yet work so poorly?

This product was a disaster. It completely disintegrated after 6 months of use, and never did provide a constant, reliable connection. Whoever is manufacturing these for Apple needs to be fired. I bought another one at the same time, and while that one hasn't fallen apart yet, it barely works. Truly appalling.

Yet another failed power adapter (a zero would be appropriate)

I can only add my voice to the frustrated and disappointed multitude who have experienced a failed power adapter--no warning, no damage, no power. I thought my power adapter had been switched, possessed, fallen upon by some alien force. And now I face parting with $90 to replace it! Clearly something is wrong with the design, the materials or the construction.

    terrible experience

After only one year the charger no longer works and, having heard so many bad experiences from other people, I am not sure I will buy an Apple product any more.

    Poorly Made Magsafe Plug-in Wire

I like the concept of the magsafe plug into the MacBook Air 11" I have. What I really dislike is how poorly the wire and it's insulation's constructed and has split after careful care on my part. Now, I have to spend another $79 for a new adapter with it's wire? That'll do the same darn thing again after a couple years? Very annoying. C'mon Apple! Get it together! I love my MacBook Air though. Good quality there.

On my third one, all failed with normal use

I'm on my third one, and now looking for a fourth because they've all failed with normal use over the last two years. Mine didn't fray, they just stopped being able to charge the MBA I own. Really poor design for something as essential as a power adapter, especially when you are talking about a $1300+ computer.

    Charger cords fail

I've had two of these fail for different MacBook Airs in the past year. One was only 9 months old. I'm amazed that Apple unashamedly continues to post people's complaints about the high fail rate of this product, and yet does nothing to correct it.
