    Too hot!

This cable could be the worst cable of all! All my family have MacBook Air & their charger as well as mine charges whenever it wants to work. Not to mention this cable gets SUPER HOT! #FAIL

Failed after 18 months - no strain relief, design flaw

Like many other people, I found this charger failed due to the thin cable failing near the charger unit, with the insulation breaking open to reveal wires inside - dangerous as well as stopping the charger working.

The problem is that (unlike PC laptop chargers), Apple doesn't include a stronger 'strain relief' plastic covering that helps avoid this fragile cable from failing.

Since this is a design flaw, you have a good case to argue for a free replacement while under AppleCare.

Apple make great laptops, it's a surprise they still haven't figured out how to make reliable chargers.

    Failed suddenly

Clearly this is a design or quality issue since so many have had the same experience.

    mac air cord

My cord has once again frayed this is the second cord (the first lasted around a year as did the second) this cord frayed in the exact same spot as the first, it is a design flaw their should be a firmer plastic used right near where the cord plugs into the macbook. They KNOW this is an issue so it would be nice if the cords were not so expensive considering most people are replacing them every year.

Utter Rubbish, Cable Breaks and Falls off Easily

What terrible design. Not only does the adaptor fall off all the time, so you come back to what you think should be a fully charged laptop to find it wasn't plugged in, but now I'm on my 3rd adaptor because the cable breaks too easily. Finally, if you use the long UK extension cord the plug is really hard to pull out because it's too slim, and there's nothing to pull on. Should be used as a tutorial in how not to design something.

    Apple needs to address this

My freshman year of college, I bought a 11" air. After 11 months or so, the cord to the magsafe piece was bunched up beyond repair. I thought it was my own mishandling of the cord, so I was very careful with my next one. That one lasted 10 months. I'm now on my third cord in three years, so far costing me over $180.

Reduce the price or improve the quality

Apple needs to look at the price AND the quality they give us. The Mac book Air is worth it, but the charger for it... Apple needs to make things more durable, and if they give us poor quality, then it deserves to have a low cost. If you plan on making these things more efficient, then the price wouldn't be a problem

WIll probably let you down when you need it the most

Just a couple of bends will leave this one KO. The part where the thin cable joins the charger is the weakest one and it will surely break sooner or later. I have the magsafe 2 version but of course there's no adaptor to magsafe 1 so you'll have to spend SIXTY FIVE pounds on a new one -even though the charger works, the cable is not replaceable-

    Poor design

I use the tiny plastic lid to protect the tiny pins, but the pins jam easily, rendering the adapter useless. Sometimes they will eventually pop back out on their own, but it's very annoying. I've never written a negative review for an Apple product before - I've been a devoted Apple user since 1988 - but it's frustrating to have a run-down laptop on a business trip because the adapter won't work.

    poorly made

my macbook air 13" adapter started to fail me a few months ago and now it won't work at all. now apple charges $90 for something that is needed just so I can actually use my computer. WOW. I have been a Mac user for over 20 years and can honestly say the quality continues to slip. An accessory like this shouldn't be failing after a year.

    Defective engineering

I now have to purchase my SECOND REPLACEMENT (you count correctly, that makes 3 in less than a year!). The cord keeps fraying, and I take good care of my electronics, so that's not the problem. Apple, you need to do something about this. I'm not going to keep buying these things. They are too expensive to be disposable.

    Failed after 5 months

My power cable stopped working after 5 months. Definitely not worth 80$ to replace. Lame apple, just lame.

    Do not buy

This is my second charger and this one lasted half the time of my previous one. The charger never leaves my desk and it has stopped working after only 4 months.

    Sub-standard product at extortionate price

While this charger does do the job it is meant to (charge the battery), the lead is nowhere near robust enough to withstand normal wear and tear.

The rubber covering on the lead breaks easily exposing the metal wires underneath, and these also break too easily. My lead has been patched up numerous times but has now stopped working altogether (too many of the thin wires near to the 'mag safe' connector have now broken and enough power is no longer getting through).

Considering that the main reason people will need to purchase a replacement charger is that the quality is not sufficient to last, the price that Apple want us to pay for a new own brand one is pure extortion - I will be buying an alternative.

    POOR QUALITY

ive had so many other computers before with nothing wrong with the charger, the apple charger is innovative in its design yet the quality is by far the worst of any charger i have used to date. the rubber insulation literally tore in half exposing live wires. on top of that the charger over heats. TERRIBLE PRODUCT - unfortunately necessary to continue the use of my macbook.

    Poorly engineered and manufactured

The magnetic cable broke down at the connection after about a year of use. I am afraid to spend another $90 and go over the same hassle again. There needs to be a solution for this problem. Here is a good opportunity to make money with a better product.

    I hate you Apple

This is ridiculous! How can it break like that? I noticed it was fraying and the 2nd day it was so broken that I almost thought I had ghosts in the house who pulled the cable rubber. There is no other explanation for this type of breaking since I am not playing with the cord all day.

    Power lead

Possibly the worst excuse for a charger I have eve seen. My old Nokia 3210 charger had a better connection and longer shelf life.
The cord is barely a year old and has completely failed, now the wires are frayed and possibly dangerous.
The magnetic connection is just a gimmick and constantly disconnects.
Why don't they just make the connection deeper as with USB or headphone jacks and reinforce the end of the cord? I knew I would have problems with the cord within an hour of usage. If I can spot that as a gardener, surely the boffs at Mac must have seen this coming. Come on Mac, good charger designs have been around for decades. If you can't design one yourself, steal an existing design. Raise your game.

I guess I got the longest life out of it (13 months)

So much for the "thoughtful" design on utilizing a magnet to "prolong" the life of the charger :P. I am new to macs and do not really know if this is an ongoing issue with the mac book chargers; but it seems that Apple needs to seriously rethink their design.
