    Av adapter for iPad 2

Gets good reception. What I don't like about it is that it doesn't fit into the iPad very tight and the least little move of the iPad and it comes out.

    Excellent piece of kit.

Just the job works perfectly. You will need an HDMI cable to act as your extension cable. Note the extra connection that will let you charge the iPad as you use it to play through your TV etc. Note also that when you connect to your iPad it locks to it, (to stop accidental disconnection) when you want to detach, use the little release button at the side not really visible.Works fine with Youtube, BBC player ITV player, iTunes movies and most useful in my case Netflix movies streamed from the internet. Used with new iPad no problems at all.

    Works just as expected

I bought this so that I could project anything on my new iPad (3 gen) to my class. I tested it with my iPod touch and found out (at the local Apple store) that only certain apps would project on a Touch or iPhone.

I was at a conference with a video projector and asked to try out my new iPad and my new connector during a break. It worked perfectly. It mirrored (and displayed) everything on my iPad. The presenter then tried her iPad 2, and it failed. Apparently the new iPad is the one to use if you want to project anything you have.

Not working well on the new iPad.

I bought this adapter in early 2012 for my original iPad (1), and worked well, although of course only with a few features such as movies or YouTube.

When connecting it to my new iPad (3) it says that the connected hardware is not compatible. It states this every time I connect it, although it sometimes actually workes anyway.

I know this is not a problem for all new iPad (3) users, but a few though, so be sure to check out that it works perhaps before buying it, or test it immediately after buying it.

    Great Connection to TV!

I have the iPad 2 and an iPhone 4 and it works great with both of these. I would like to point out that with the iPad 2 it will mirror exactly what you do where as the iPhone 4 will only show pictures, videos and etc. I think that it is a good investment for the people who don't really want to buy the Apple TV but want to be able to show off their pictures, videos, new apps and more to a whole room of people. The other option is to get the Apple iPad VGA Adapter which would also connect to a TV with a VGA connection. I think that it is a good investment and a very reasonable price! FIVE STAR PRODUCT!!!!

    Works well but

I purchased this accessory for my new iPad 3. it works very well except for two glaring issues. The first issue another reviewer has already pointed out but it is very true; the problem is that no one told me that there were two buttons on the side that would allow me to take out the adapter with ease so for an entire week I was pulling on this thinking that I was about to break my iPad by pulling on it the connector. so I think it is very important like the other reviewer quoted that you need to have a notice that the purchaser can see right away that tells them about the two buttons on the side to disconnect it from the connector. The other issue may be something that the other people who haven't gotten this to work need to acknowledge. For some reason when I used a cheaper HDMI cable it did not work so when I exchanged it for another HDMI cable I had laying around that was much more expensive it did work I don't know why

Works great with new iPad (3) not so good with iPhone 4

The product works as expected with my new iPad (3) but has limited uses with the iPhone 4. For the iPhone 4, it is dependent on the application that you run. I'm sure it works great on the iPhone 4s. The advertising is very deceptive for the iPhone 4. The advertisement says "The accessory is compatible with the following:" and the iPhone 4 is listed. However, in a different box it states "*Video mirroring is available with iPad 2 or later and iPhone 4S" in extremely light grey - but there is no explanation of video mirroring. Why is this note in light grey? Is it purposefully hidden? The cable connects to the iPad well, but easily disconnects from the Phone 4. I give the cable 4 out of 5 for the iPad and 0 out of 5 for the iPhone 4 - and 1 out of 5 to Apple for the advertising and price of the cable.

Worse Apple product I have bought

Extremely poor connection, fails to work most of the time. Insufficiently secure in the 30 plug pin to maintain the connection. My old analogue connector, which works flawlessly, has been taken out of the cupboard and this disappointment put there in it's place. There are many more compliants along these lines so I am taking it that Apple wants to steer us in the direction of streaming as no enegy has gone into rectifying this issue. I bought it because I thought it must have. Wrong. This item is a major disappointment and will be returned.

Seemed expensive but works really well

The clearest picture yet on my HD TV coupled with much improved sound. The cable seems expensive for what it is but the performance is markedly better than the output from my 5 year old Macbook.

    exceeded my expectations!

I bought this on a whim at the Apple store the other day. I was streaming Netflix through my iPad to the TV through this adapter and the picture was clear as day. Very impressed, great product!

    Everything I need....

I bought this for my new iPad. It has exactly everything I need.
it is a new model with mechanical latches so the connection problem described by some other users is gone. You can turn it and shake it, it won't disconnect.
It mirrors my iPad in all the conditions, I can watch movies (Netflix works just great), see pictures and play games.
It is also very useful when you visit family or friends and you want to quickly show them pictures on a big screen, everybody has a TV with a HDMI input.
The picture quality is amazing, I believe it constantly streams in 1080p and if you have good HD content you'll get the same quality as a blue ray.
I've used it quite extensively so far and didn't find any issue yet. It works great also with my iPhone 4S. It is really cool to connect my iPhone to the TV and have HD quality movies on the big screen, I love it.
With the iPad first generation it has limited functionality but I can still use it to watch movies with iTunes or Netflix.

    Updated Digital AV Adapter

This new adapter (released with the new iPad in 2012) fixes the one glaring fault in the old adapter. Namely, they added a locking mechanism to keep it secured, so no more sudden unintended disconnects. Two buttons on the side release the locking mechanism. I only noticed this when I could not detach it following a film, so maybe a bright red notice in the box would be a good idea. Either way, a sold improvement of an already very useful product. And, no more pesky unsupported peripheral messages!

    So poor!

    It's not the Adapter, it's iDevice/display compatibility

Reviewers who experience problems need to learn that HDMI is a flakey, frequently unstable interface for displays and other devices just as the first FireWire is, regardless of whether it's an Apple product or any other brand of cable, adapter, and device. The solution, beside having the latest iOS update, is making the connection as short and direct as possible as well as learning that you may have to "wake up" the display by reconnecting the cable (I installed a switch just to avoid that) or find out what works for you (power-cycle or switch between inputs on your display). The ultimate solution is to substitute another model or display/TV. If you take your device and adapter with the connecting cable into an Apple store it will most likely work fine with their equipment because they have selected the display or TV that they know works with the Pod, Phone, and Pad. Don't blame Apple for the incompatibility.

Love love love the new connector!

I have an iPhone 4s, it works pretty well with the new connector. I like the idea of streaming my video, playing it on the bigger screen and sharing with friends. The new one has the latches compared with the old one so it secures the connection between my phone and TV.

    Uselese on playing video

I am very disappointed to this device. It might be good for still pictures but when playing video to TV, it is horrible – video shaking and looks not enough frames per second. I check the iPhone and the videos on iPhone are very smooth.

You can’t really watch videos on TV. It will hurt your eyes just in 1 minute.
