Will not replace your FW800 port, gets very hot, $30!

I use my MBPr for audio recording and use two portable FW drives that are connected through a Belkin Firewire Hub. Works perfectly on my MBP from 2008, but can only power one drive using this very expensive adapter.

I'm extremely disappointed that this adapter doesn't work like a FW800 port. I could save the $30 and invested in some USB 3.0 drives and been done with it. I held out waiting for this adapter thinking it would give me the same functionality as my FW800 port on my old MBP.

One person mentioned that it didn't work with their iOmega eGo, but it worked for me on my eGo drive.

The adapter does get very hot when in use. I have used it connected to a bus-powered drive and a dc powered drive on two separate occasions and both times the adapter was very hot. Not sure if this will be an issue with longevity of the adapter.

Also be careful with this adapter, because if it is anything like there video adapters the wires inside will come loose if it gets moved around (bends) too much. I wrap a twisty tie around it so it barely bends. I also support the adapter so it doesn't hang and put pressure on the port.
