    Simply doesn't work

I bought one of these it worked for a couple weeks then stopped charging. It will hold the current battery level but wont charge the battery. I purchased another one and it did not work at all. I have tried this with two separate charges with no success. Im really surprised apple is ok with selling such a piece of junk, and am baffled as to why there are so many problems with such a simple piece of hardware.

    Doesn't work!

Newly purchased and didn't work at all. My Mac fails to any receive power when using the adapter. Not the finest Apple accessory I've ever bought!

Worked great for the first few months

This adapter worked great in the beginning. But after a few months the light stopped turning on and the mac would say that it's receiving power but not charging. I would have to unplug it and plug it in again till the light turned on and the mac would say it's charging. Like other reviews mentioned, the adapter gets very hot occasionally. The adapter stays on magnetically, so of course there's always the possibility that it could fall off and get lost. The price is pretty decent. But remember, you get what you pay for.

    Becomes faulty

Worked fine initially but started to lose connection and has now become totally unreliable. The light stays green indicating a full charge, when it's not, and it won't charge. I can only assume the little pins aren't making contact. I've tried to clean it but it's made no difference.

    What's all the fuss

Not sure what people are doing, but this adaptor works just fine in my experience.

    Fails after a year

Like many others here, my converter failed after a year, it is useless.

    Watch Out!

The adapter works as advertised, however it gets EXTREMELY hot. I didn't realize how hot it was and went to unplug it and burned my fingertips badly enough to cause blisters.

    Outstanding Utility

I have 3 of these and they all work like magic. Never had a problem. Apple didn't have to make this $10 product. They could have required us to buy new power adapters with the new size MagSafe connector. I'd say that's pretty good. Not sure why others are having problems. Everyone I know who has one raves about this little part that saves an adapter. Buy.

    Works well, needs periodic cleaning

This converter has never let me down, and after more than a year, I have found the secret to making sure that it reliably carries the power: clean the contact points at both ends (and especially the recessed end). If you do ts, it will work very reliably.

    Terrible product

After a couple of weeks, the converter no longer will charge the battery. It does transmit power but without the ability to charge it is basically useless. Really disappointed.

    Never Failed!

I've been using this since I bought my retina Macbook Pro in Nov of 2013 to power my non-thunderbolt 27" Apple monitor, and it has never failed. It has never fallen off or failed to connect to my monitor.

Overheats, falls apart and is unreliable

I am using the converter to connect a "Retina" MBP to my Cinema display. For one, the converter often fails to reliably connect the MBP to the power source provided by the display. This may have to do with the fact that dirt likes to collect within the converter's connecting pins. I also think it is a general engineering issue, which has to do with the fact that an additional plug in between generally likes to cause connectivity issues. Often (but not always), the problem can be resolved by moving and tilting the converter until the MBP properly connects.

Worse than that, after two years of sporadic use, the converter started falling apart. As a result of that it also started to overheat to a point that I couldn't touch it without pain. This is when I stopped using it as I was concerned that it may cause damage to the MBP or even start a fire on my desk.

    tl;dr: dangerous garbage!

    Great little adaptor...

Superb. Does exactly what it needs to. I'm using it on a power cable from a mid-2012 MBP to a 2014 rMBP. No issues with overheating or slow charging as reported in other posts.

The magnet gives a strong, reassuring fit without losing its purpose. The only reason I'm not giving 5-star is that I feel Apple could have engineering a 'clip' so you can attach it to the cable as not to misplace it when not in use. I'm quite handy so I think I can cobble one together myself.

All-in-all if you have a spare older power cord and a newer Macbook it's a no brainer.

Like many of you report, for me also this magsafe to magsafe 2 converter totally failed. I just does not carry power over it. I looks like there became connection pin to pin problem. Anyway a totally shame on apple. I think Apple should replace all those faulty adapters to the proper ones.

So far, so good, but less stable (physically) than I expected

I needed this to use a 24" ACD (i.e., the built-in MacSafe cable) with a new MacBook Pro, and it certainly does the trick. Two things I noticed were that the converter (and original MagSafe connector) get quite hot when the MacBook is charging, but is cool otherwise, and that for whatever reason the converter isn't physically stable when connected to the laptop - you can wiggle it pretty easily, to the point where it disconnects. For my purposes, since I'm not touching the laptop because it's being used in clamshell mode, not an issue, but I could see it being annoying if you are using just the laptop and are moving it around. The connection between the original MacSafe plug and the converter is very solid/secure, so I have no idea why this is the case. I bought this from the local Apple store in case the converter fails (which seems like a common occurrence) and I need to replace it under warranty.

Didn't WANT to have to buy this but it does work..

I really liked the old connection better cause it was stronger. After they changed it to a lesser quality plug, I bought this to make even more weight on my cable thus making it come out even easier LOL.

Beats buying another new $70+ power plug but I still feel ripped off for having to buy this in the first place.

    Works Perfectly

The only regret I had after unboxing my new Macbook Air, was the realization that my "old" MagSafe power adapters would not work with it. I travel frequently, so rather than bundle up the MagSafe 2 cord and travel with it, I was planning to buy a new Magsafe 2 cord and keep it in my briefcase when I travel. Thank you apple for creating this handy little adapter to solve all my problems. Less than $10, and I received it from fedex less than 24 hours after I ordered it.

Works exactly the way it should

It allows you to use older Macbook MagSafe power adapter on newer MacBooks. Simple.

It's magnetic so if you trip on the cable it releases just like the MagSafe. Simple!

You can NOT possibly rate this little thing below a 5 STAR - it does exactly what it says it does - nothing more nor nothing less. SIMPLE!

    3 for 3

I have three of these. One for my personal Macbook Pro - and another two that I use at work (I have a lot of Macbook Pro's in my life). All three came with Thunderbolt displays and are used to power the MacBooks via the display's power cable.

More often than not, all three fail to deliver power to the macbook, and after some random wiggling of the thing, it will eventually spring back to life... but you never know for how long.

And it's not just me. Most people in my office have a Macbook Pro with a thunderbolt display. We all experience the same issue.

Now I have charging anxiety and I'm constantly keeping one eye on the Mag Safe connector and the charging icon in the menu bar. I'd use the MacBooks charger if we had available plug sockets, but we don't. This product is not fit for the purpose it was designed for. It's not even worth the 1 star I'm forced to give it for this review.
