Will probably need to replace soon after 2 years

Rich companies like Apple make sure you buy their accessories again and again.
That is part of their business plan.

Blaming it on non-proper way to remove this cable, what a joke. With such a strong magnet, it makes it hard to pull it straight out.
I have always angled the plug first in order to remove it. I never abused it.
Blaming it on non-proper way to remove this cable is probably posted by the Apple company.

With the outer rubber coating all torn up just near the plug, luckily mine still charges.
No other marks on the cable. A shame to throw out the $89 cable/adapter assembly because of this Apple Defect.

I will probably use electrical tape to stop it from totally failing.

    Break Easily

Been through 2 over past 3 years. One just stopped working and the other's wire casing ripped at the end. They were kept in good condition.

    Replacing power cord, again!

There is a weak place and my second cord is failing just as the first. My complaint is similar to many on here. It weakens just above the guard adjacent to the actual plug. My first cord worked for a couple years and then started to short out. My replacement has lasted less than a year.

I expect more from apple. Surely with this weakness and typical failure, the cord guard could have been improved.

    Poorly Made Power Adapter Cord

I have never before had to replace the power cord for any of my previous MBP's until now. This will be my third replacement for a 2 year old MBPr. Power Adapter cord easily becomes damaged even with normal use (as instructed) and care. I would rate this with no stars if I could.

Would give 0 Stars If I Could

I have had my computer for a little bit more than three years now. I will now have to buy my third charging cable, making it the forth one to be used for my computer. It is ridiculous that they can ethically price the power cord at $79.00 when they last for MAYBE a year. The concepts behind the charger are amazing, but the execution was horrible.

Lousy Adaptor - been through two now. One replaced under Apple Care. At £65

If I could give this zero stars I would. My Mac is a thing of beauty but it's let down by this ridiculously designed adaptor with a big power cable, large adaptor and a tiny cable attaching to the Mac. As stated by many other victims this thing is not fit for purpose.

    Charger is too fragile

Had this charger for less than 1 year before it frayed (daily basic use). It's my 3rd charger in 3 years - come on Apple! So far it's the only downside to my Macbook.

Great design but must be handled correctly

I've had the magsafe 2 for quite a while and learned to remove it gently and safely by simply tilting the connection up instead of pulling it out. By tilting it up it very easily disconnects without putting any strain on the wire and in fact I never touch the wire at all. I believe that all the complaining and poor reviews are simply the result of incorrectly disconnecting the power by pulling out instead of tilting. That type of pulling results in stressing the wire and eventually it will fail.

    Horrible improvement

Please bring back the original MagSafe! MagSafe 2 is an antidote to improvement! IT is horrible; while the original one stayed in, it was small and sleek, and the cord faced towards the back - huge help, this new one is bigger, sticks out too much, gets knocked out way to easy. The cord sticks straight out, which is not helping the issue. I have not had issues with fraying yet, but I ve only had a computer for a few months. If only MagSafe was compatible with the new Pro, I would use that instead.

Poor product, frayed plastic exposes power wires inside

Love my macbook pro, but this power charger is just shocking.

Within a year of purchase the wires are showing as they have burst through the plastic at points, leaving me feeling vulnerable to shocks or fire.

Looks like everyone's fed back pretty much the same as me on this one so it's definitely a poor product from Apple.

    Please sort it Apple.

Terrible product spoiling an otherwise great laptop

Recently I had a massively fraying cable and visited a store to get a replacement, luckily i was able to get a brand new one. The service was great but the issue remains with the power cable itself. This really should have stain relief or a much tougher cable to prevent the metal shielding beneath from wearing the pvc away and burst through. I was told i was stressing the cable but I think this is not the case, i've never had any cable fray and melt like this and never fail ever. A redesign is needed, even if all they do is increase the diameter of the cable.

If you want a replacement out of warranty like me, go to a store very early just after opening on a weekday, be nice, polite, slightly clueless as well. Go to a store where you can't book a genius appointment, go in and ask the iPad guy at the front, they'll say to see a technician. Don't mention anything like warranty or anything but they put it through as apple care which i didn't have so it really is the exception to the rule to get a replacement but being amenable and nice helps oil the gears. Good luck and don't buy a replacement you really are due a free one considering the very poor design.

The magnet in the magsafe2 is a lot weaker than the original magsafe on my last MBP. I basically can't even use it like a real laptop when I'm charging it because anything I do knocks the charger off. Terrible "improvement" over the original!

    Needs a re-design

The sheathing on the cable is not up to the task. Its been used solely indoors and treated with very good care, but the insulating sheath has discoloured and split near the connector after only 18 months. At £65 a go, its not a cheap fix and should be made of far more robust materials for that price. The Macbook, on the other hand, hasn't skipped a beat, come on Apple!

Apple needs to use better cable materials

Please improve the charger cable at least on the newer MacBook pros. The current cable is not good. The magnet works fine but the cable is fragile under normal use.

    Awful product

I'm now on my third one of these in the space of 18 months. First one just stopped working, second one cable burnt and eventually split (sparks everywhere, amazed no-one has got electrocuted and sued Apple). Can't wait to see what my new one does. Absolutely amazing that Apple would release such an abysmal product (so much for Apple's technical brilliance), and doubly amazing that they would completely ignore customer feedback and do nothing to improve and replace it (so much for Apple listening to their customers). I love my Macbook but I won't buy another one until Apple have sorted this out - if they ever do.

By the way I have noticed on Amazon another company making and selling these. Unfortunately they don't get good reviews either, but there is hope that someone else will eventually produce a safe and reliable version. Astonishing that Apple are apparently incapable of doing so themselves though - it's only an effing cable!

    So far works well but...

So far the MagSafe 2 Adapter that came with my 6 month old MBP Retina is fine, although I do find it dislodges from the MBP faster than my old adapter on my old MBP.

That said, when I came to the Apple site to buy a second adapter for travel I was astonished at the number of horrible reviews from recent purchasers. Not sure if we can be sure these are all reviews and all genuine Apple products, but the shear number of negative reviews suggests Apple has a real loser on it's hand.

Interestingly, "certified" purchase review on Amazon tell a very, very different picture. So hard to say what is going on.

    Cant purchase power chord separately?!

My power chord has frayed can I cant purchase power chord separately from the actually power adapter. Apple wants to charge me $119 for a whole new adapter when only the chord that runs from the adapter to my laptop is the part that needs replacing. Apple why don't you make this part detachable so people can save money by not having to purchase the adapter all over again when they don't need it?! A total rip-off and very disappointing! Look at how many people rated this one star as the majority of them have a frayed cable and are forced to buy the whole adapter!
