    Horrible

Always disconnects from computer. A slight budge will cease the charging of the computer. Also the charger is very poor quality, the same fraying that happens with the iphone chargers happens with these chargers. I feel as if they don't fix this problem intentionally so you have to buy chargers routinely.

    Worst Apple Hardware Product Every

My Magasfe2 adapter has stopped working after just three months of use. This is bad news because my laptop is now unusable. The horrific expensive price means that I cannot afford a spare one. I generally love apple products and they are well designed, but looks like they really need to focus on the adapters and other accessories instead of designing stupid watches. Now please excuse me as I go waste more time at the apple store to fix this.

    Very poor quality product

I am not very happy with the quality of this product. The charger continually falls out when using computer on lap. I have had to replace it after only 12 months of use as the cable broke away exposing the wiring. The adapter also gets really hot. Not happy with having to spend $100 on a new adapter after only one year, I expect that I will have to do this again unless the design has been improved. Great way to boost Apples profits at our expense!

Have gone through 4 in the last year

These keep dying on me - the 4th one that I've owned has just died and now I need to buy another one. At $99 a pop this is ridiculous.

    Faulty or Weak Design

VERY unhappy Apple with the early 2013 Magsafe 2 Macbook Pro charging adapter.

I had an original magsafe charger from a 17" EARLY 2009 MACBOOK PRO.

That charger is now OVER 6 years old and receives the same sort of treatment as the rest of my gear. That one has never missed a beat, even though it's 6 + years old.

My new Magsafe 2 charger just had to be replaced in little under 2 YEARS worth of use. The cable completely frayed and broke. VERY unsafe and weak design. VERY UNHAPPY TO BE FORKING OVER ANOTHER 99$ TO APPLE FOR A NEW ONE.. considering the weakness in the design.

VERY VERY VERY VERY UPSET AND ANGRY APPLE.

ABOUT TO BUY CHARGER NUMBER 3

Number 3 for this model Mac, my 5th additional apple charger to date. Shoddy piece of equipment. It literally explodes. It's like it has a timer built in set to go exactly every 16 months. You have no choice but to replace it with the same again. If someone else makes a charger for them I'm interested.

Apple will not stand behind this product

85W MagSafe adapter for MacBook Pro Retina version. The cord failed at the point of attachment to the power adapter and began to fray. Took it to an Apple Store thinking it would be covered under a similar replacement plan for the older MagSafe adapter (there is a class action lawsuit against their older adapter that fails in the same way).

It was not covered. Was told by the kid at the store that I must have wrapped it too tight around the power adapter. I never once wrapped the cord around the adapter - it's mostly used on my desk at work and lies flat on a table. He then proceeded to rip the frayed cord off so I couldn't use it anymore. Paid over $60 for a replacement, and they kept my old one so now I have no further recourse. He was unbelievably rude and condescending in the process.

Would rate this -1 stars if possible. This adapter is a liability, Apple should pay for your homeowner's insurance policy if you have this so in case your house burns down in the process of using it, at least you don't lose everything.

    Overheats

Even in a reasonably well ventilated room, these chargers begin to have overheating problems after about the ~18mo. mark (if not before)

They become *incredibly* hot - as in, you can't even hold the thing. Mine actually continued to work while in this state, until it suddenly shut off and stopped charging my macbook. I was confused, went over to it, and as soon as I touched it... yeah. I realised why it had stopped working. Hot enough you could probably boil an egg on it (and considering its entirely plastic, the fact the exterior can get so incredibly hot says something about how hot the 'core' must be)

    Multiple failures

I've had my MBP for about 2 years and I am onto my third MagSafe 2 power adapter. At almost $100 each, this is very poor for such an expensive laptop. The first supply just failed after six months. The second supply lasted about 18 months and has failed due to the very thin low voltage side of the cable not liking being carefully coiled on a daily basis and put back into the laptop bag after use. I have been very aware of how thin this cable is and so have been ultra careful about how the cable is coiled, even using a velcro cable tie to hold the coil loosely in place for storage.

The reality is, after daily use, very ordinary movement of this side of the cable leads to the outside insulation and internal wiring failing within 12-18 months. The problem could have been easily averted by using more robust cable insulation for this part of the supply along with a little bit of reinforcement where it meets the power supply box, to protect the cable/conductors from movement. Laptops are designed to be mobile, right? Sometimes I wish Apple designers would pay more attention to function and less attention to visual aesthetics. I don't care if thicker cables don't look as good. They will at least last as long as the laptop itself!!

    BEYOND appalled!

I am a BIO major in my second year of college and I use my laptop EVERYDAY. My MAC is about a year old and the cord of my charger just decided to stop working; at the very end where it attaches to the block part is ripping and the little wires are coming out. Not only am I livid at the fact that my laptop will not be getting charged tonight and that I can't do my homework, but this horrible product is overpriced... $80? Are you kidding me? I paid almost 2 grand for my laptop, and now I have to pay an extra $80 for a charger that is completely awful! For a product that doesn't even last long and that it rips so easily, it's kind of overpriced. Apple needs to come up with a new product with better material. I would rate this product no stars, but I can't..... Be aware that if you have this charger, you will be buying about three or five more in a short period of time.

    Poor Design

The problem with the square design of the magnetic connector is that it sticks out from the computer, giving it more opportunities to get knocked out. And with a weak magnet, this happens much more often than the older tubular design that hugs tightly to the computer and is much less likely to get knocked out. After giving us video professionals the middle finger with FCPX, nothing innovative on the operating system front, and now this poor hardware design, I'm seriously considering changing over my production operation (for a large company) to Windows. My IT guys would love for me to do this, and I just might oblige them.

Why reinvent something that was nearly perfect already (design wise)

I honestly prefer the MagSafe "L" than the 2. I can't have my laptop plugged while using it on my lap with my legs crossed (indian sit), the plug just comes off! I don't know about you but I sometimes work in this position and now I can't unless I unplug my MacBook or put some type of a pillow on my lap so the laptop can rest on it... I guess Apple forgot this test case... To make matters worse, I can't even use the MagSafe 1 with the new retina versions. I now have to always bring the plug with me when I could've easily leave one at work and at home. Instead, they reap us off by making us buy another adapter.

    Very delicate

The thin cord that runs from your laptop to the charging brick has a very weak cord connecting it to the brick. The material around it tears easily exposing the thin cords which also sever soon after. I have gone through 2 of these and at a crazy $79.99 a piece it is getting ridiculously expensive. I expect better if I'm going to spend thousands on your computers.

    A Bad Joke

Considering the cost of Apple products, you would expect the cable not to be shredded within 9 months of purchase. A huge disappointment to an otherwise good product.

3rd One Of These Now.... What A Load of Rubbish

As the title states, this is the third one of these I have had to buy in 2 years. The cable gets disconnected at the end of each day and plugged back in at the start. It does not get unplugged from the mains, and yet still, the plastic covering has deteriorated and is dangerously exposing bare wire at both the magsafe end and the adapter itself. Had exactly the same problem with the original magsafe power adapter on a previous Mac Book Pro I had. Considering this a £3000 bit of kit I use, I expect the power cable to be of a much better design. Personally I will now consider buying in a purpose built linux laptop instead of a Macbook, mainly because Apple refuse to replace this faulty/poorly designed piece of equipment. Got them to replace one about 5 years ago but spent the entire day on the phone before Apple agreed to replace it. It's cheaper for me to buy a new one then waste my time trying to draw blood from a stone. I can see another class settlement being issued on this and so it should. Only rated 1 star as this was the minimum it would allow, more like -5 stars.

    Spark and Toast

After almost 2 years of using it under normal usage and care, there was a sudden spark on the plug and the adapter have signs of burn on the seams. 0 stars. No explanation from customer care why it happened so it can be avoided.

    RUBBISH

Like everyone else says, this power supply is dreadful. Overheats and has stopped working after 16 months. Time for a redesign, methinks... oh, and yeah, a refund would be handy. £65?!?!?!?

    Plug Retention Weak

I agree with those calling for stronger magnets on the charger's connector to the laptop. Current model is too weak. Care must be taken with the next chargers to not over compensate.
    All else works fine.
