Apple should be embarrassed for this failure of a product

One year now, I think I have had to re-apply this adaptor about 3 or 4 times per day because it falls off so easily. Do I want to plug my computer in 1,000 times per year? No. It's annoying as anything.

And this one frays too. Just like the one before. And the one before. And the one before. 20 years of using laptops and never have I had a single manufacturer make a bad cable. Toshiba, Dell, etc. But Apple? Every cable frays after about 1 year. If you're not in the USA ... TOO BAD FOR YOU BUY A NEW ONE.

This product only gets worse every year, I don't know how they can't fix this fraying issue and also make a plug that doesn't fall out if you tap the laptop. Really, for shame, for what you charge for these things you need to come up with some basic engineering solutions. The page on Apple support is a major joke... basically "how to use your power cord". Show me any other manufacturer that has to have a dedicated web page for how to use their power cord. It reminds me of the iPhone problems with shorting out the antenna and Apple's response was "hold your phone correctly."

No Apple, how about you design us a product that does not have major flaws in the design? Give us something that works. You shouldn't need to put up 20 photos showing "poor use" of the power cable. Power cables have been around for 100 years and you can't make one that lasts more than 6 months without utterly failing, let alone one that will stay plugged into the computer? What a joke.

I HATE THIS CORD! VERY DISAPPOINTED!

I just bought this beautiful laptop that cost me close to $2,000 and it comes with a $2 charging cord. Apple, what the heck were you thinking??!! I love your products but this is unacceptable!! I would give it zero stars if I had the option.

    Third adapter in 3 months(!)

Melted cable close to the adapter and two damaged cables because of a snap somewhere in the middle. Very poor respons of Apple dealer: you have to be more careful... I have been using Apple laptops since 2001. Never had to replace any of the adapters. Even de Magsafe-1 was ok. The Magsafe-2 is a total failure in my opinion. Wonder how Steve would have reacted...

Please offer an L shape charger!

Apple, really? Did any of you even bother to take this home with you, use it on your lap and try it out before going with this design? Just barely tilt the plug and it falls right off. I just called the shop and was disappointed to learn that you don't offer an L shape option. Where's the famous Apple attention to detail and putting the user experience first?

    Love hate

I love that its magnetic and protects itself against trips etc. but I think the magnet should be stronger than it is maybe twice as strong?

I don't like that the jacket material that covers the cord is utter garbage I'm on my 3-4th replacement from apple because after a few months the jacket begins to split near the connectors from I guess stress of some kind. Now I'm not what I consider a power user but I take my laptop around at least 2 times per week but for the most part unless I'm charging it near my couch where I'm usually using it the charger just sits near by so I don't understand how it can split from stress.

    Replaced Twice

I am a college student and I carry my charger around in my backpack with me to and from classes. My second charger just broke and tomorrow I will need to purchase another one for $80. On two different occasions, the wire closest to the battery pack has become frayed to the point where my computer will no longer charge. Laptops are supposed to withstand being transported and their chargers should too.

    Very Frustrating

Remember those days when you could move your laptop without the power cord falling out? Slightest movement or even a heavy keystroke and this guy is off.

Less than 6 months old and already fickle

Unlike others I have no problem with the strength of the magnet that connects the power cord to the laptop. However, when I connect the power cord, it doesn't always begin charging (and light does not come on). It's as if it is not connected. I have to fiddle with it; disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly until the adapter decides to cooperate. More than a little annoying.

Prefer the magnetic attachment to traditional plugs

I'm very, very happy with the magnetic version, so much that I am getting another one so I have one at home and office. I've owned several MacBook Pros, one Mac Air and lots of windows based PCs and nothing destroys your machine faster than tripping over a cord. I'd rather it disconnect than destroy the port (which has happened to at least 4 windows based laptops). I've tripped over my power cord at least 3 times that I can remember and instead of pulling my laptop off the desk and crashing it, it simply disconnected. My $0.02 worth. You can't have both. I prefer magnetic because I've been through the nightmare of a damaged power port.

Fixed the problem of NOT CHARGING

I discovered if the charging LED doesn't come on, I (followed the instructions and) unplugged the power adapter for 60 seconds before reconnecting, I was able to use it again. 2006 T type 85W adapter on a 2014 MBP.

    Keeps falling off

It's a really annoying piece of kit, as much as I understand the need to protect the computer itself and have the cable disconnect easily to prevent damage to the Macbook, it falls off WAY too easily, and after 10 months' use doesn't even stay in properly a lot of the time.

Bad Enough Charger to Avoid the Computer as a Product Entirely

The Macbook Air is great for simplicity - as long as you charge it at night, you'll be good during the day. Charge during your busy work schedule, and you'll wanna blow your brains out because of the terrible charger that comes with all apple laptops. The magnet on this laptop charger is absolutely despicable, falls out, and fails in every possible charging situation besides when you leave the computer completely alone for several hours. I didn't buy a laptop to have it be used like a tower computer - when I put it in my lap, as the name implies, forget the charger - its guaranteed to fall out.

    Terrible Quality

I have had my rMBP magsafe for a little less than six months now and the charger is already starting to show signs of wear, with the rubber around either end of the cord starting to split. This is very frustrating given that I have always been quite careful with the cord. While I recognize these chargers were not built to last forever, I would at least hope that when I pay upwards of $2,000 for a laptop one of its most vital components doesn't start to fail within six months. Do better Apple.

Vehemently Agree With Other's Poor Reviews Here

The mag safe plug into the MacBook 13" Air's port is very poor in it's connection for charging. We also must constantly fidget with it where the amber or green charging light will finaly illuminate to indicate charge status. Apple should offer a FREE power adapter cable chargers like they've already done before on my 11" MacBook Air's.

    CHANGE THE POWER CORD

THIS NEW POWER CORD IS THE WORST. Every single time i move my computer it falls out. I have to HOLD the power cord in place if i want it to stay in. This is ridiculous. Also, every time i plug it in, i have to wait and see if it starts to charge, because sometimes it wont!!!!! Sometimes it won't light up and i have to re-plug it in, readjust, move it around, play with it for 5 minutes before I find the PERFECT spot where it finally starts to charge. Its completely frustrating. This new power cord is unacceptable. I liked the old ones much better and I've never been this frustrated with an apple product ever. I don't know what the deal is but give us the old charger back and stop changing the design just to make money. Give us something that actually works.

    HORRIBLE

Not only does the magnet make it fall off super easily, but I've only had this product for 3 months in college, and the light is already starting to break. I'll plug it in, and it just doesn't charge correctly for some reason.

Does Apple even see these reviews?

Seriously, don't expect this to work after a year. Like every other apple power cord it frays and stops working. If I spend over $2000 on a laptop I expect to not have to spend an extra $80 a year on a power cord. You're better than this Apple. It's so disappointing. FIX THIS PROBLEM!!! You can't make an awful product AND make the replacement this expensive.

Love the computer but HATE the power cord!!!!!!

My old macbook had a great power cord that fit at a 90 degree angle in either front or back direction that rarely came off the computer inadvertently. This new power cord is amazingly unable to stay on the charging slot. I think I just sneezed and it came off. Apple please go back to what worked before. I'd buy one tomorrow if it were there.
