    Worst power adaptor EVER

I have a new MacBook Pro - this is the 3rd one I've owned, so I've been through a few power adaptors. I have to say that this power adapter is the worst I've ever had. It has such a weak magnet that it falls out every time you move the computer. If the performance is similar to the ones I've had before, I'll probably have to pay a goodly amount to replace it before too long, and I hate to even think about throwing the money away for something so badly constructed. After all the years that people have been complaining about the inferior quality of MacBook and MacBook Pro adaptors, you'd think that they would have improved. Instead, I have a beautiful new computer with the worst adaptor on the planet!!!

    Horrible product

I cannot believe I just spent $90 (with tax) on such an inferior product. I almost don't care that Apple doesn't innovate like it used to when Steve Jobs was alive, but please please please at least keep up with what he built. This power adapter does not stay on and fray after a year or two. I would give it zero star if I could.

    power adapter awful

HEY...APPLE!!! Just look at all these 1-star reviews! This connection is terrible. My older Pro, whose charger cord clamped in 90degrees to the back or front was great. It could be jostled and moved around and usually stayed plugged in. This new piece of junk that clicks in -- with an incredibly weak magnet, I might add -- comes undone with the slightest adjustment of the laptop. It's bulkiness, coming straight off the computer like it does, practically guarantees an unintentional connection. I absolutely cannot believe the this design was tested by a group of users before it was signed off on.

    Terrible Design, Terrible quality

The power adapter's design is so egregious, it's hard to believe it came from the same company that built the computer.

    1. The magsafe connection doesn't connect without jiggling. That's been the case from day one.
    2. The cord isn't long enough for practical use
    3. The thin cord (from the magsafe to the converter) is so delicate, so easily damaged beyond repair.

    awful :(

The magnet in these chargers are too weak. If I move my computer and the cord pulls slightly the whole thing flies off so easily, or if I rest my computer on my lap the adapter pushes up and unplugs because it sticks out so far. My old charger stayed in nicely and wasn't so obnoxious (L shape version). so bummed and frustrated with it.

Won't Last and Incredibly Over Priced

This product will not last you more than a year. My original adapter lasted just over a year before the cord was completely shredded and I was forced to pay the disgusting amount for a replacement. It probably would have lasted longer if my laptop sat on the same desk and never moved, but if I was going to let my computer sit in the same place I wouldn't have bought a laptop. A laptop is meant to be portable. Why create an adapter that will not be able to handle the small amount of stress careful transportation creates? I take good care of my technology but this product was not meant to last.

Note to Apple: Fix this. If there are so many negative reviews, maybe it is time to rethink your design.

    One star too much

My charger has not lasted well. the AC connection side from the charger to the laptop has failed.
It deteriorated very quickly in a matter of days, as well as being very very hot. the plastic white casing was infact tarnished form the heat.
The cord deteriorated further the next day revealing the wire casing, then finally the inner plastic core. When I tried to press it together with my fingers to wrap it with electrical tape it burnt my fingers it was so hot, and upon fiddling more started to spark.
My nearest apple store is over an hour away with no appointments for 5 days, or I can have a new one sent out against a credit card; which would then be charged depending on whether it was classed as "accidental" or "strain relief". Pathetic.

    Horrible Product

Since buying my MacBook Pro two years ago I am onto my third one of these. In the previous cases the wire has split and frayed near the power-pack. This is without putting any excessive strain on the cable, or even frequent transportation. Unacceptable quality control. With such a thin cord it seems inevitable that it will happen again. Horrible design.

    Go back to the "L"

    I'll be your first customer.

The new one doesn't work in a lap, on a blanket, any surface that isn't flat. I like to surf in the AM with my legs crossed on my couch, and I have to hold the laptop at a 45 degree angle so my leg doesn't push the protruding charger up (and off). With my mid 2010 Macbook Air, the charger hugged the laptop body and exited the back. Never even thought about it being there. THATS a good charger.

    Great power adapter

I've read most of the reviews here, and they seem to me to be mostly nonsense.
Yes, it unplugs easily when you pull on it. That's the point.
Yes, it unplugs even easier when you pull the plug up or down (versus sideways or straight out). That's also the point.
If it wouldn't, it is quite clear to me that it would possibly damage the laptop or the connector (as happened often with the pre-magsafe power connectors).
I certainly do not have the experience that it unplugs either all the time, or when it isn't supposed to.
If even a bit more force would be required to unplug this connector, it would also very likely (especially on a bit more slippery surfaces, like my glass table) pull the laptop along with it.
In short: Great product, don't change a thing, don't bring back the L-shaped plug.

    Pathetic

I have to buy a new one of these every 8-12 months. Both ends of the thin section of the cord start peeling away revealing the fiber wires inside. I have no time or patience to look up a "how to solder your macbook charger" to attempt to fix it. I really hope Apple finds a way to make these chargers more durable. I also hope Apple finds a way to make my charger to not look EXTREMELY dirty after 1 month of traveling in my backpack.

    "Pathetic"

Welcome to the world of high end electronics from one of the best companies in the world. Beautiful, efficient computers but pathetic chargers which keep getting frayed at the MacBook end. I love Apple products but the chargers are the worst thing Apple could sell. I have already gone through 3 chargers in the last 4yrs. The new charger for my MacBook Pro with Retina display lasted only 10 months. PATHETIC.

2014 macbook air magnetic power source

I have had a macbook air for the past 4 years and love it, but as it got older and slowed down it was time for a new one. Many nice upgrades like the lit keyboard, but man, every time I sneeze or move 4 mm, it disconnects.....I sure hope Apple has a fix for this and will be supplying them to all their apple supporters, users and share holders at NO cost. The old one was fine and did the job fine for 4 years. This is my first night using the new one frankly, sitting relatively motionless for 3 hours, it has come out 10 plus times. I am ready to tear my hair out. Like one of the other comments stated, now that the Steve Jobs is no longer with us, I pray this is not a pre curser to what down the pipe. Apple has become the wealthiest company in the world for a few reasons, incredibly forward thinking designs and excellent products both in appearance and functionality, but equally as important, the cult following of people who will spend 3 times more than the PC competitor as a result....It will hurt apple in the future if these extremely easy problems are fixed in production rather than getting a litany of complaints and concerns from your customers, who in all reality, are one of the main reasons apple is where apple is! I hope we see a fix soon, or I will simply return the 16 new units I bought for myself and my star within a week and go back to our old devices. Thank you for listening.

    Constantly falls out

The magsafe on my last Macbook Pro was an excellent piece of design. It stayed firmly in place unless yanked out from the socket - something that saved my machine from going crashing to the floor on a number of occasions. The L-shape attachment allowed it to fit snugly against the side of my machine and rarely if ever became unattached if knocked.

The new magsafe 2 is a marked contrast. The slightest pull or knock pulls it from the socket and when I am using it on my lap I can guarantee that in the space of an hour it will fall out more than once. A really duff piece of design which is surprising from the Apple design team.

    Horrrible, horrible product

I am about to buy my 3rd of these in the last 2 years. In both cases, the cord started to fray at the base and then burned out so hot that it actually started smoking. An unacceptable, completely malfunctioning product. Good thing I have to buy another now.

    Awful Quality

I bought my top of the range Macbook pro last November (2013) and am delighted with the machine. It is beautiful and has worked flawlessly from day 1. I cannot understand why Apple have supplied such a beautiful machine with the shoddy tat that is the Power Supply. The cable began to fray after around 6 months and over the past couple of weeks the magnetic connector began to get extremely hot to the touch before simply stopping working over the weekend. This seems to be something of a theme with Apple products. I have had to buy at least 5 charging cables for my iPod classic. Apple equipment is extremely expensive (£65 to replace the Macbook power supply) is it too much to expect quality peripheries.

    Very disappointed

    Magsafe 2 is AWESOME!

I'm rating this product 5 stars becuase it is ingenious! My wife had a samsung laptop she spent $1200 on and one day recently she tripped on the wire and it broke the connection inside the computer! And of course its fused onto the motherboard so I can not 'just replace it'. Had she one of these the wire would have just popped off. Now we have to send it to some place on the east coast and 'maybe' it can be repaired - what a joke!

Only con: the magnets DO need to be a tad bit stronger but not to much that if you trip on the wire it pulls your expensive Pro off the desk!

    Poor quality design

I am now on my third Power adapter for my Macbook Pro Retina. After 12 months the cable frayed and split next to the adapter. I took extra care with the second however after only 9 months the cable melted next to the adapter while the battery was charging and I was running an intensive 3D application. Fortunately it was replaced under warranty.

The adapter gets very hot while charging and running when the laptop is in use and the cable appears to be too thin for the max power consumption.

Apple need to up the spec. of the cable and improve the design of the adapter.
