    short lifespan

lasted about 1.5 years of very mild use before the small end connected to the square frayed and stopped working (actually burned the plastic). 80 bucks to replace.. not many other options.. stupid apple

    Very very poor.

The cable is a year old and has already disintegrated in 2 places, typical apple poor build quality in their accessories, the best designers in the world and you think they build them poorly accidentally?

Not a chance, cut it out apple, hopefully applecare will cover this.

doesn't stay on, magnet is so weak

Go with the smaller connector version if available. This version is a pain trying to keep the magnet connected.

    made to be unplugged???

it is too easy to fell apart from socket.. I never had any issue with magsafe1..
mbp is our one of SOE and the most of colleagues complain about this.

Can you do something about it or just ignore, apple?

    Engineering Team's Transcript:

Engineer 1: “Let make it skinnier so it falls out easier!"

Engineer 2: “Well, MagSafe 1 was L shaped so up/down motions would torque the connector rather than acting like a lever arm. Thus it wouldn't fall out.”

Engineer 3: “Stupid. Let’s also make it stick 1/2 inch directly out the side of the computer so that all the torque is now on the even skinnier, even less secure magnetic plate.”

    Engineer 1: “Genius”

    Engineer 2: “REVOLUTIONARY!”

    Great Product

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I have been user this adapter for 8 months now and don't have any problems with it. I am now purchasing a second one so I can keep one at home and 2nd one at the office.

    Poor Quliaty

My MacBook Pro Retina is only 8 months old.. the charger is already broken, the cable is very weak and there is an obvious stress point that was not taken care in the design. Now I have to buy a new one :(

    Poor design

As others have stated, the Magsafe 2 detaches way too easily.

I understand the purpose of the connector. It is supposed to detach in the event you trip over a cord. Previous versions of this connector provided this functionality without constantly detaching during normal operation.

Your laptop does not run at full speed unless it is plugged in. If you are doing something processor-intensive, you should be plugged in. With this adapter, it is an absolute pain to remain plugged in unless you are sitting at your desk. A lot of the more positive comments here suggest people only use the adapter for charging. Run some benchmarks on your laptop plugged in vs. not plugged in. You will be in for a surprise.

This will disconnect if you do any of the following:
    - Put it on a pillow
    - Put it on your bed
    - Put it on your sofa
    - Put it on your car seat
    - Put it on your lap

An otherwise excellent laptop is marred by this poor design.

My MagSafe 2 power connecter broke

I bought my Macbook pro Retina 15 on the day when it came out in New Zealand. About 1 year later, the power light stopped working completely. So there is no green or orange light on the connecter but still charges my Mac. however the price I paid for this Mac, any failure is unacceptable. I used to use Macbook pro mid 2010 model with MagSafe 1 and that was much more reliable than MagSafe 2. Many people complain about the strength of magnet but I found it no problem.

Have to buy a new cord again

I bought a new macbook in the summer. With each of my old macbooks, at some time, I had to replace the power cord because the cord splits at the adapter. This usually 1-1.5 years. I have been EXTRA CAREFUL this time when moving the power cord with this new macbook so I will not have this situation again. After 4 months and being extra careful, I have to buy another...

    Devolution of the MagSafe

The L-shaped was superior in design and practical use. This one feel like a step backwards, like I just purchased an old MacBook. I hate it.

One bit the Apple QA process missed

While the MBP has been fine, the power adapter is shockingly bad.

The main unit runs constantly hot while the rubber cover of the cable has been fraying and disintegrating for months now, my first one ended up with more insulating tape on it than the original rubber cover.

Not pleasant to look at and certainly not safe, I hope Apple address this quickly and produce a more robust product in future.

    Cord frayed from regular usage

The cord (the non-replaceable part) is extremely weak, and becomes brittle with regular usage. I recommend not using the cord winder wings, as this adds significantly to the wear and tear of the cord where it meets the body of the power adapter. My cord became frayed and finally failed after only about 6 months of usage. Granted, I am very portable, usually changing locations 3-4 times per day, but this cord is exceptionally weak. Why make the power plug replaceable, while a failure on the other end of the plug requires a replacement of the entire power supply? This is poor design, and appears to me to be designed for planned obsolescence.

Also, as everyone else has stated, the magnet is too weak in the MagSafe 2 design. I've got 3 other MacBooks, one with the L-shaped connector and the two with the old original MagSafe design, and this is by far the worst of the lot. I expect more when I pay for a premium product like the rMBP.

    Weak, Hot, materials are bad

I've had the charger for about a year now and about a month ago the wire started to get weak and break, it's revealed the wires under the protective wire, making me pretty scared to be holding incase I die! Also, the head of the charger gets super, super hot which I think makes the wire softer and making it easier to break. The heat hurts my hand too... Although, I don't think the magnet is as weak as people make it out to be but it isn't as strong as it needs to be.

    Brakes To Easy

The adapter falls out way to easy, the amount of times i have pluged it in at night, gone to sleep, woken up the next day for school and realized that it has fallen out is unbelievable, at least once a week. And now the thing has broken. I wish i could use a different one but i can't

    Maybe worth $40 not $100

    Cable burnt itself out

My macbook pro battery was completely drained, so I plugged it in before going to bed. I woke up to the smell of smoke, and noticed that the cable coming out from the power adapter was melting, and burnt a hole in my hardwood floors. Not very happy about having to buy a new adapter that was only less than a year old, and a burnt mark in my floors...

Poor quality compered to the machine it charges

This is my first Mac and I'm very happy with the move from my Sony Vaio. However the charger has always been a worry since day 1 and 12 months down the line it has failed.
    - It gets extremely hot - to the point where I won't leave the machine charging unattended.
    - It has a small power plug that makes it hard to remove from the wall socket, potentially exposing your fingers to an electric shock.
    - Fragile connection from the a/c adapter which has now frayed, exposing the wire.

It has been looked after very well, and I'm unhappy that it should need replacing after twelve months.

    Bunch of whiners

Magsafe 2 (magnetic) is the best thing ever invented! Weak? Maybe you just have a bad magnet, mine is plenty strong. In fact, if you think it's weak and it keeps falling off, maybe you're one of those who don't care about cables and just yank them without knowing! The magnet is designed so idiots don't over yank them, place the cable with ample room for movement. I don't know how many times this has saved me from yanking it by accident. I love this design! 5/5 stars!

    Terrible Charger

This is the worst charger in the world. I does not do the job at all. I am constantly putting it back in when it has fallen out and then I have to fiddle with it to get it to charge. I hope apple listens to all these bad reviews and make another charger that will fit and do the job intended. I have given it one star but that is just because it wont let me give it 0.
