    not happy

I'm sick of the cruddy outer material splitting on these cords! Why can't you at least just replace the half that has broken as opposed to the entire charger? half my charger is fine, and it is ridiculously expensive to replace the entire thing. $119 is just too much. I would give it negative stars if I could.

    Cool design with no durability.

Unlike most of the reviews, mine seems to have no trouble staying in. That said, I use my charger every day as a student and the cord has fallen apart in less than a year. Every place that the cord is constantly bent at eventually frays and the wires show. I thought maybe I just used mine incorrectly, but everyone seems to have the same problem. Pricing a product at $80 that needs to be replaced every 8 months is ridiculous. Not impressed at all Apple.

Gotta agree with most of the reviews here...

Have had my MacBook for about a year. The cord is starting to wear out. I take it with me daily, so yes, the cord gets rolled up and placed in and out of a backpack every day. It's a LAPTOP...that's what I bought it for!!! In every other way I absolutely love this MacBook, so I'm spending $79 to replace it...but it is a hard purchase to swallow. Again...this is a LAPTOP!

worst MagSafe Power adapter apple ever made

I used the MagSafe 1 power adapter for four years with no issues (Amazing simple innovation by apple) - This very model I started having issues beginning 'DAY ONE' - The first and the basic issue that apple forgot to address - It does not hold (Very weak magnet) - I just put the laptop down and it disconnects - Worst than any laptop charger that is there in the market.

3rd power adapter in two and half years

I thought the first time I had to replace this adapter that maybe it was a fluke. It wasn't a fluke. This power adapter is poorly made and eventually frays at both ends (right before the MagSafe 2 connector, as will as where the power cord comes out the power 'brick'). I suppose if you kept it plugged into the wall (in one spot) for the life of your laptop, you'd be fine. For me, I take it work everyday so the cord is rolled/unrolled twice a day. For that use case, this adapter is junk.

    Terrible Product

I take very good care of my electronics, including these power adapters, and the cable frayed right at the base of the block within a year. No harsh conditions, no undue stress on the cable...just another $80 out of my pocket and a very unhappy customer. Really, Apple?

    What's going on here?

I'm not sure about the charred and fraying wires phenomenon everyone seems to be experiencing. Mine is two years old and it is still just the same as the day I bought my Mac. This one in particular charges my Mac far quicker than it has any right to, and without getting nearly as hot as the old MagSafe. Granted I treat my technology very well, but it still seems odd to me.

That said, the ergonomics of this stupid thing are absolutely pitiful. I wouldn't be stupid enough to let my $1600 Mac attached to a cable someone is going to trip over in the first place, so why did you have to make it even more easily detachable?

Fix this issue, Apple. Absolutely unacceptable oversight.

    Safety Hazard

A year into purchasing my laptop, I could see the cord already getting bent out of shape. Soon it started breaking and wires were starting to be exposed. I covered it with a bit of tape and went on my way. Then it would periodically choose not to charge my laptop. Yesterday I was charging my laptop when I smelled something burning. Turns out the cord burnt a hole through the tape and wires. It's clear everyone hates this cord, based on the reviews. Instead of bringing out a slightly different laptops and iPads each year, how about creating good quality chargers for existing products?!?!

    Broken within 18 months

I've had to purchase a new power adapter because the original cable broke and it stopped charging the computer. My MacBook is only 18 months old and I'm quite careful with the power cable when I pack up the computer. For a computer that is so expensive it's outrageous that the durability of the power cable is so awful. I'm super annoyed that I've had to shell out another £65 for a new one.

    UGH!

Not only did my charger break after 5 months of use (and when i mean break i mean that the cord ripped apart, total BS). but also the fact that i cant share a charger with my mother who has a macbook pro because you changed the width of the charger. UGH. not worth 80$

    Terrible malfunctionning OEM charger

I bought my macbookpro about 2 months ago and since the beginning the original charger is giving me trouble 50% of the time, when connecting the magsafe2 to the laptop, it powers and charges the laptop only 1 time out of 2. It's really annoying, you have to disconnect reconnect the magsafe, the connection to the power source multiple times until magically the charger send electricity to the computer. Apparently I am not the only one having this issu.

it would be my third times to buy charger cable no reason to pear off shield, Apply please fix it or at least provide some alternative solution to change charger. it ruins perfect computer reputation.

    magsafe

Wow, i can't believe there are so many negative reviews on this charger! I have a late 2013 macbook pro retina and i guess because i use it either in bed or in my living room, i've had no problems with it. I did see one review that feels the way i do, that the magnet is strong enough...it doesn't come out on me and the wire is not frayed...i suppose because i don't travel with it, accounts for it being in good shape. The one thing I don't care for is how HOT it gets when first charging...but i just keep it on a hard surface and all seems to be ok. I wonder if, like the other person said, we got ours from a good batch and maybe there are a lot of inferior ones out there? I wanted to buy another one so I wouldn't have to move it back and forth, but like the other guy, i'm wondering if i'll get stuck with an expensive piece of junk?

    Needs to be more robust

I have a Macbook Pro late 2011 and I'm just about to buy its third power cord. At £65 this is extremely disappointing. Don't mind paying premium for a great product, but I do mind paying this much for a product that is obviously not fit for purpose and not manufactured to a high enough standard for its likely use. Given the number of reviews making this same point, isn't it about time Apple did something about it?

    This product is atrocious

I have had to drive two hours to replace one of these chargers at least once, and sometimes twice, a year ever since I bought my Macbook Air. I love the computer, but I am typing this just before leaving to replace the charger for the sixth time. There is no excuse for how bad this product is. I follow the instructions, wrap it like you're "supposed to" wrap it (kinda like "Hey, just don't hold your phone that way!"), but I still routinely have to replace this piece of absolute garbage. Shame on you Apple. Shame on you.

Unbelievable...3 Power Adapters in less than 10 months for this computer!

This is my 5th Apple computer, and the ONLY one I have EVER had to buy a replacement power cord for!!! Why?!?! This this is AWFUL. Something about it makes it brittle enough to break, again and again...in the exact same manner. I use this laptop no differently than I have the other 3, but the cord on this one keeps breaking! I am so careful with my electronics, but tonight I am gobsmacked over finding the magnetic charger in the middle of the living room floor separated from the rest of the cord by several feet. Not the first time for this particular model. I am furious that I have to buy another. FURIOUS! This may be the final nail in the coffin of spending upwards of 3X the cost for a laptop as every other brand available, seriously at $85.00/cable, I am into this for almost $400.00 for power supplies alone. So Angry.

And do not EVEN get me started on how touchy and ridiculous it is just to get it to charge my laptop, all the hoops and pressurized air blasts to clean it off enough to get a sound connection for it to decide if it "feels" like charging my computer....uugghhh!

Needed a New Charger After 1 Year

The insulation started to peel away after just over a year with normal use. Apple has well-made products, but cheaply-made chargers.

    Garbage

I haven't even had my computer a year and the wire completely broke off from the part that goes into the wall. Now I have to spend money on a new one! Completely unacceptable!!

    Terrible Quality

I have never written a review before but this really annoyed me, my computer is 1 year and 1 week old so apple told me it was out of warranty, but even if it had been under warranty the lead is not covered. i have looked after this product properly only storing it correctly, putting the least strain on the lead, and after a year the cable collapsed and won't charge my computer, which i need everyday. so now i have to go and purchase a new one for £65. the lead is a great design but terrible quality.
